Ford has issued a recall for the 2022-2023 Ford Mustang due to a critical issue that could affect steering control. The problem lies in a miscalibrated secondary steering torque sensor, which may have inverted polarity. This defect can cause the steering wheel to turn unexpectedly, potentially leading to a loss of vehicle control.
The recall targets Mustangs built between September 15, 2022, and April 5, 2023, affecting a total of 30,735 vehicles. Ford has instructed dealers not to “demonstrate or deliver any new in-stock vehicles” until the issue is resolved.
While Ford has acknowledged two warranty claims related to this defect, no accidents or injuries have been reported so far. To fix the problem, affected owners will need to take their vehicles to a dealership for a free software update to the power steering control module.
Owners will receive notification letters starting the week of August 5, 2024. For more information, Ford can be reached at 1-866-436-7332, or the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236, using recall campaign number 24V-493.
