Acura is set to unveil an electric SUV concept at this year’s Monterey Car Week, offering a glimpse of a production model that will soon follow. This upcoming SUV will be built in Ohio on a dedicated EV platform developed by Acura and its parent company, Honda.
The teaser image released on Friday provides just a hint of what to expect, but the full reveal is just around the corner, with Monterey Car Week running from August 9-18. Notably, Acura has used this prestigious California event before to showcase its future EVs, including the Precision EV concept, which previewed the 2024 ZDX, now available for purchase.
Unlike the ZDX, which utilizes General Motors’ Ultium EV platform and battery technology, Acura’s next EV will be based on a brand-new platform developed in-house with Honda. This flexible platform, which will also underpin Honda’s 0 (Zero) Series EVs announced at CES 2024, will support a range of vehicle sizes, with an initial focus on mid-to-large segments. Targeted range figures are set to exceed 300 miles.
The platform will also be shared with Honda and Sony’s new EV brand, Afeela, further showcasing its versatility. The first Honda vehicle on this platform is expected to hit U.S. roads in 2026, the same year Afeela’s first EV and the production version of Acura’s upcoming concept are likely to launch. Acura plans to sell all of its EVs exclusively online, following the model established by brands like Tesla and Rivian.
For U.S. buyers, these new Acura EVs will be manufactured at Honda’s updated Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio, with batteries supplied by a new Ohio-based plant being developed in partnership with LG.
While Acura’s EV future is exciting, the brand isn’t abandoning gas-powered vehicles just yet. The next release will be the 2025 ADX, a subcompact crossover rumored to be a close relative of the latest Honda HR-V, expected to arrive early next year.
