A Secret Alpha Mate
Chapter 46

(Jackson) Dad?

Yes?

Remember that book the one you had in your office about the history of the neighboring packs?

Yeah, I haven't seen it in a while though.

Do you think you could help me replace it?

I'll try. Do you have a minute? I just got a call from the elders, I told them I would call them back when I was with you. Meet me in my office, I'm heading there now.

My Father comes in and starts talking before he can sit down, "So Cacious left the other night after the drama, but he told me he would brief the Elders and then set up a call with us as we were the ones to bring it to their attention." I nod and motion for him to sit. "Let's get them on the phone then and see what they have to say."

We got ahold of Elder John directly, "First, I want to thank you for bringing this to our attention. It seems that this has been going on for years and the abuse and neglect that these omegas have faced is extensive." He sighs and I fight back a growl thinking of what Isla went through.

"Cacious got enough testimonials and insight from the omegas that he talked to build a case against them. He worked on collecting evidence and has pictures of their sleeping quarters, and a video of their lead omega verbally abusing multiple omegas." "However," He pauses, I don't like the sound of, however. "None of these statements are official, there is enough evidence to start a case but we need to get official statements from the omegas and I know that would be hard to do under such conditions. No one would want to face the punishment of going up against the Alpha there it seems."

"We have two previous omegas of Silver Moon staying with us now. My mate, as my Father might have mentioned, and her friend. Both have recently come from Silver Moon." Hopefully, that would be enough to get started without having the omegas have to go up against Alpha Benjamin.

"That does change things," Elder John says, "Would they be willing to give an official and detailed statement?"

"I'll ask them but I don't think it would be a problem."

"Excellent, we would send someone to get a statement in person, so please talk to them and let me know what they say so we can get this in motion, we can come as soon as we get the confirmation." "What are the next steps?" My dad asks.

"Well, we will be serving him with an official trial against ongoing misconduct of pack members. Since it seems he knew of the abuse and was taking part in it, as well, it shouldn't be hard to replace him guilty. He will definitely fight back, all Alpha's do in these cases, but we are already compiling a solid case."

"And if he's found guilty?"

"Depending on the severity, he could be on probation from being Alpha for a while, worst-case scenario, for him, would be that he's stripped of his title completely."

"And then who would the pack go to?" I ask, I never heard of an Alpha being stripped of his title by the elders.

"Next in line, if he has a son it would go to him if his son is found innocent. Maybe his Beta." He adds, "It's complicated because it's hard for us to think that any of the ranked members were oblivious to the abuse all of the omegas faced there. We need to figure out the extent of it and everyone's roles first before we can make a decision."

"Thank you so much, Elder John." I say, "I'll notify you as soon as I speak to Isla and Abigail."

"Nice to talk to you again, Elder John. I hope we can speak again under better circumstances. Thank you for all of your help." My dad adds.

"My pleasure, William, Alpha Jackson. I hope to see you both soon, and thank you for bringing this to our attention."

He hangs up and I look at my dad. I wonder if it would get as bad as having his title stripped from him. I knew he would replace out eventually who notified the Elders, there would be hell to pay, but we would be more than ready for it. (Jackson)

I ran back up to the library hoping Isla wasn't gone, I linked Dawn to have some hot chocolate and snacks brought up to the sixth floor. Even if she didn't want me to stay with her I wanted to make sure she was comfortable.

I was relieved to see that she was sitting by the fire, she didn't even notice me come in she was so engrossed in her book. Her eyebrows furrowed and she turned back a page to check something and she started chewing on her lip in confusion.

I watched her for a moment, mesmerized by her and all of her little movements. I was obsessed with her from the first day I caught her scent, but knowing that I might lose her has made me notice every small thing about her and treasure every second I got to spend near her.Read more at Narugi.com

"Are you going to sit down, or keep staring like a creep?" A wide smile lightens her face for a second before it drops. It seems that any happiness she has now is over in a few fleeting seconds and it broke me to know that I was part of the reason why.

"I have some news, I couldn't replace the book but my dad is on it." I walk toward her hesitantly but she doesn't shy away, I sit on the other edge of the couch not trying to push her boundaries, "We just talked to Elder John." She raises an eyebrow, I forgot I never got to mention to her why Cacious was with us that night.

"Okay, let me start at the beginning," I told her the story about how I suspected the omegas were being treated, what Cacious was really doing here, and our call today with Elder John.

Her eyes grew wide when I started explaining and she was engrossed in every detail.

"So, that's pretty much it. If you and Abigail are willing to make a formal statement they will send someone to collect them from you here." She doesn't say anything for a minute and I let her process everything that I told her.

"He could lose his title?" She whispers.

"We're not quite sure yet, it's still in the early stages."

"I thought all omegas were treated like that, I didn't realize how bad." She stops talking.

"Isla, omegas are part of the pack just like everyone else, they have rights and a paycheck and shouldn't be working 24/7 or cramped into tiny rooms. I can't even imagine the conditions that you grew up in, and I understand that you thought that was normal because you had nothing to compare it to but,"

I scoot closer to her and hesitantly reach for her hand, to my surprise she doesn't pull away, "But you were treated like slaves and not like members of the pack. The elders are taking this very seriously. Once everything settles down I wanted to invite any omega from Silver Moon to come here if they wanted to, we have enough rooms and cottages and I know you left behind some friends."

I hope I wasn't being too pushy and it was something I was thinking about since dinner the other night. She gives me a sad smile and pulls her hand away.

"I think that would be really nice, they would love it here." I didn't understand why that made her so sad but I didn't want to push it. "I'll mindlink Abigail and see if she if she would be willing to make a statement but I'm sure she will."

I wait for a second while her eyes cloud over, studying her face, her perfect pouty lips, a few light freckles across her nose, the light of the fire bouncing off of her hair. She was perfect.

"She said she would, as soon as your Elder is ready we are." She smiles but it doesn't reach her eyes.

"I've been meaning to ask how you can mindlink Abigail, you said you were a rogue and not ever officially part of the pack?"

She shrugs, "I have no idea either, I haven't tried it with anyone else at Silver Moon though, maybe it's a fluke." I've never heard of someone being able to link anyone from an outside pack unless they were mates.

Alpha, I had someone send up a tray, it's outside the elevator as requested.

Thank you, Dawn.

"One second."

I come back with two steaming mugs of Dawn's famous hot chocolate, I think she adds some cinnamon or something to it, but it's incredible and I knew Isla would love it. She also arranged some fresh bread and butter and a bowl of fruit on the tray. I set it in front of Isla and she can't help the look of excitement that crosses her face. I liked being able to do things for her to make her happy, I wish she would let me still.

"I thought you would need some sustenance if you're spending the afternoon reading." She smiles at me an actual smile that sparkles in her green eyes. I missed that smile more than anything.

I was determined to leave on a high note so I grabbed my mug, "I'll let you get back to it then, I've intruded on you long enough."

"Jackson?" She calls out softly, I hope she was asking me to stay, to say that we would figure this out and not let some stupid werewolf rule come between us.

"Thank you," She whispers, I shut the door behind me not daring to look back for her to see just how much it hurt me that she didn't ask me to stay.
