When she asked about the Luna, I knew I would have to tell her about the dilemma I had found myself in, since she has to agree to a lifetime with me by Friday. That’s our only chance.
“Well, basically, the Luna is the Alpha’s mate,” I said, watching as she tried to process all the new information. I didn’t want to overload her all at once. “And a mate in the werewolf world is like a soulmate. Werewolves can tell who this person is by their intoxicating scent, sparks that fly when they touch, and just the good feeling they get being around them.”
Harper bit her lip, making her look absolutely mouth watering and adorable. I had to push Seth back from taking control and kissing the life out of her. She was so beautiful and didn’t even know it.
“So, have you found yours?” She asked, slightly nervous at the question. But she had nothing to fear, she was the only one for me, mate mate, the one and only.
“Yes, I have.”
She nodded, looking downcast. I sent her a confused look, one that she didn’t see. Wait, didn’t she realize I was looking at her right now?
“My Luna doesn’t necessarily have to be my mate, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
She nodded again. “You must really love her, huh?”
I nodded, although she couldn’t see, as a bright smile made its way onto my face. “She is the most special thing to me. I will never let her out of my sight again.”
Harper looked up, giving me a weak smile, with big, fat tears rolling down her angelic face. “She sounds like a really lucky girl.”
Concern flooded my features. Did she not realize I was staring right at my mate, the perfection that was in front of me?
“She definitely is. Seth and I both love her very much.”
“Who is it? Casey? Some other girl I’ve never met? Whoever, it is, I hope they agree to be your Luna, and you can live with them for a long time.”
“Hey, why are you crying?” I wanted to hear it from her, despite my assumptions, why she was so upset.
“Sorry, it’s just.... I think I’m in love with you.” And with that, she fled from the cave, running as fast as her feet could carry her.
Luckily for me, I was a werewolf, so I could easily catch up. But before I started off after her, I simply sat there for a moment and smiled. She actually loved me! Harper - my gorgeous mate - loved me!
She hadn’t made it far before I caught up to her, pulling her inside one of the many stores the pack owned down town, and heading into the office space. As their future Alpha, no one questioned it.
Still, even though I had Harp locked in here, she kept struggling and trying to leave.
“Hear me out, Harp!”
“No!” New tears streamed down her face. “I just realized I had feelings for you after you finished telling about how you’re practically getting married.”
I leaned forward and wiped the tears from her eyes before giving her a serious look. “You didn’t even hear me say who my mate was before you assumed and just took off.” She looked down guiltily before I continued. “My mate is the most amazing girl in the world, and I wouldn’t rather have anyone else to rule by my side.”
“So everything you told me last night in the tent - it was all a lie? That you had loved me for almost two whole years and still love me?”
I shook my head vigorously. “None of it was a lie! At sixteen werewolves are able to identify who their mates are, and for me, I also started intense preparation for the Alpha role. That’s why I hung out with you less and less - that and the fact it felt weird when you only saw me as an older brother.”
“I’m confused - where is this going?”
“Harper Morris, you’re my mate. I have known it since the moment I saw you at my sixteenth birthday party. I wanted to tear you and Toby apart when I first heard you were together because that was supposed to be us. I know this is all a little much to take in right now, but you are going to have to make a decision. Either we reject each other and we are never, ever able to be together, or we stay together forever. I’m going to leave it up to you.”
She let out a shaky breath, the realization of the whole situation hitting her hard. “How long do I have to decide?”
“Um... before this Friday would be best.”
