After Death, Love Unveiled (Elara and Lysander) -
Unveiled 133
Chapter 133
Seeing Elara acting like she was the victim, Elara wasn't in the mood to entertain her. "What, are you saying Natalie caused your car accident?
"She's been coming to the hospital every day to take care of you since the accident, and you still have the nerve to complain? If you had a different daughter-in-law, would anyone treat you this way? Curtis doesn't even come to visit you every day.
"Don't spout nonsense. The Kerwin family is in this mess because they brought it upon themselves. You're just paralyzed now, but mark my words, with that mouth of yours, this isn't the last of your family's bad luck." "You..." Grace looked at Elara with a hurt expression. But Elara was an outsider, and moreover, she was Lysander's fiancée. Grace couldn't act like she could with Natalie. Elara wasn't as easy to intimidate. After all, Natalie had married into the Kerwin family. No matter how much noise she made, it would only be a family
matter.
Elara glanced at Curtis. "You can take your time thinking about the divorce, but from the moment you laid a hand on Natalie, it was already decided. Your marriage to her is over, whether you want it or not." His actions had given Natalie the perfect reason to file for divorce.
That evening, Elara was having dinner at home with her father when Harold came over. He walked in, and Elara greeted him, "Uncle Harold, what brings you here?" Barrett also looked at him. "Take a seat."
Elara and Harold had both been living in Starfield City for the past few years, but Barrett had his own affairs to attend to, so they didn't see each other often.
Harold sat down and looked at Barrett. "It's been a long time, Mr. Kensington."
Hearing that, Barrett replied, "Why so formal? We're family. How's Natalie doing?"
"She's getting better," Harold said. "Natalie only had some superficial injuries. Unlike Elara, who had to get two stitches, so she's recovering a little faster. But, marrying a man like this has clearly affected her mental state." Barrett nodded. "Take good care of her."
Harold's gaze turned to Elara. "I came here today to talk about Natalie."
Elara was confused. "What's going on?"
"The divorce," Harold said. "This is something you don't need to worry about. I'll handle it with the Kerwin family."
"How will you handle it?" Elara asked.
Seeing that Harold was asking her not to get involved, Elara looked at him warily. "Last time, Curtis said that even if he killed Natalie, you'd just obediently send her back to him. You're not really planning on doing that, are you?" Harold had always meddled with Elara and Lysander's relationship, but he was her uncle, so her opinion of him wasn't entirely negative.
However, now that Curtis had already made a move, if Harold actually went through with something like this, Elara would be very disappointed in him.
Harold frowned. "Is that really how you see me?"

"Well, I doubt you. If you were a good person, you wouldn't have let Natalie marry Curtis in the first place." Elara retorted.
"Who knew Curtis would go this far?" Harold said. "He was fine before. It was only after his mother's accident that things spiraled out of control."
"No matter what happened to his mother, that's no excuse for Natalie to suffer." Elara shot back.
"I know," Harold replied. "I'll take care of the divorce."
Noticing the serious look on Harold's face, Elara asked, "Has the Kerwin family been causing you trouble?"
"Don't worry about it," Harold said. "I'm not stopping Natalie from getting a divorce. I'm just as upset as you are about what Curtis did. But it's just a divorce. No need to make it a big spectacle. It'll only make things worse." "Let them look bad, not us. Why does it matter to you? Natalie didn't do anything wrong." Elara countered.
"You're still just a child," Harold said, shaking his head. "Has Lysander spoiled you this much? Now that things are good between you two, you think it's no big deal.
"But what if one day, you and he aren't together anymore? Are you planning on making enemies of everyone?"
Elara furrowed her brows. Back during Natalie's wedding, Harold had said some things that had upset Lysander. Of course, Harold had probably done it intentionally. Now, Harold didn't want to owe the Hawthorne family any more favors. Seeing that Elara didn't speak, Harold said, "That's enough. You and Lysander aren't even married yet. You can't keep relying on others; do you really think you won't have to repay their kindness?"
Harold stood up, ready to leave, but then turned back and walked toward Barrett. "Come outside. I need to talk to you."
Barrett stood up and followed Harold out the door. Once outside, Barrett asked, "What's this about?"
"Are you really planning to let Elara be with Lysander?" Harold asked.
"What else would I do?" Barrett replied. "They have a good relationship."
"Do you think Ziva would have allowed Elara to marry into the Hawthorne family if she were still around?" Harold said.
"Elara and Lysander have a good relationship," Barrett replied.
"Don't tell me you don't know anything about the Hawthorne family's affairs?" Harold said. "Do you think they have a good relationship, or are you just trying to ride the Hawthorne family's coattails?" "This is what Ziva wanted," Barrett said. His tone had shifted from gentle to firm. "The past is the past. They're not kids anymore. They have their own minds."
Harold's face darkened. "I know one thing. If it weren't for the Hawthorne family's involvement, Ziva wouldn't have died." Thinking about Ziva, Harold's heart ached. Ziva had once been so outstanding. Looking at Harold, Barrett said, "Ziva was ill. It had nothing to do with the Hawthorne family. You can't keep holding onto the past and blaming the Hawthorne family for everything."
"I just can't stand seeing you be so kind to the Hawthorne family's children," Harold said. "Especially Lysander. You treat him like your own son? Have you forgotten? He's becoming more like his father every day." InLysander hadn't come back to Starfield City and was over in Brookfield with Elara, Harold wouldn't have cared what they were doing. But now, something about the whole situation was making him uncomfortable. Barrett replied, "If he treats Elara well and Elara likes him, I don't care who he is. Of course, if he treats her poorly, no matter

Harold paused, looking at Barrett, his brows furrowed. Barrett wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but he was still a good person. So many people had liked Ziva back then, but she had chosen Barrett. Elara had been secretly listening to their conversation from the side. Soon enough, Harold left.
When Barrett returned and saw her standing there, he asked, "Eavesdropping?"
"I just wanted to hear what you and Uncle Harold were talking about. You two talking behind my back made me think you were saying something I shouldn't hear," Elara said,
"It's all about Lysander," Barrett said. "Back then, Lysander's mother wanted to divorce and take her child with her, but the Hawthorne family didn't agree.
"After they lost the lawsuit, Lysander's mother jumped out of a window. Your mother's been feeling guilty about it ever
since."
That was Ziva's best friend. As a lawyer, Ziva should have always thought of her client's best interests. She shouldn't have taken a case she knew shouldn't be fought.
But because Yessenia had insisted, Ziva couldn't bring herself to refuse, and she took the case. In the end, it had led to that tragic outcome.
Ziva hadn't stopped regretting agreeing to it until the last second of her life. If she hadn't, perhaps Yessenia wouldn't have died

Luckily, after Yessenia passed away, Lysander finally did as his mother wished and distanced himself from the Hawthorne family. After all these years, as Lysander returned to the Hawthorne family, Wyatt probably wouldn't treat him too badly. Once Lysander finished talking with his fath
