Chapter 166

Lysander glanced at Crispin, his mood not exactly cheerful at the moment.

Crispin asked, "Are you still worried about Elara?"

Lysander replied, "I should've handled this sooner."

It wouldn't have escalated to this point otherwise.

"This isn't your fault." Crispin looked at Lysander and said, "No one can have everything go their way."

Just then, Aubrey came out. "Lysander, Dad's calling for you."

Hearing this, Lysander walked inside.

Wyatt looked at him, noting his tense expression. "I know you've had a rough time. I'll go to the Kensington family personally to apologize."

Although he'd let Orson go, Wyatt still felt it was important to console his son and prevent any lingering resentment. Lysander glanced at his father and replied, "I'm heading back to the hospital."

Wyatt said, "Go ahead! I'll come over later."

Elara was still at the hospital, where Harold was in the room, chatting with Barrett. "You shouldn't have brought Elara to Starfield City. Starfield City sucks. Wasn't Brookfield good enough? In Brookfield, you're the richest man. Here, anyone can walk over you." Standing in the doorway, Elara frowned as she listened to her uncle.

Natalie looked over at her. "You alright?"

"I'm fine," Elara replied.

Natalie commented, "Good thing Asher didn't go around saying things. He's got at least a bit of conscience."

As soon as she said this, Asher walked over. "Talking about me?"

Natalie looked at him. "I said you have some sense of decency! You know how to keep

your

distance."

Asher glanced at Elara, who was looking right back at him. "I'm not a bad person! It was Orson who approached me, wanting me to cooperate with him. I'm a good guy. I wouldn't do something like that."

"Oh, really?" Elara couldn't help but laugh at his self-assessment. You just figured it wasn't worth crossing the Hawthorne family, right?"

Between the Swift family and the Hawthorne family, Asher knew which family held more power.

He'd made the choice that best served his interests, but now he was putting on a

good act.

Asher asked, "Elara, is that what you think of me?"

Although he had to admit that he did think so.

Even though Wyatt had shown Orson a measure of respect, it was clear to Asher who held the real power.

If he offended the Hawthorne family, his prospects in Starfield City would be bleak.

Elara replied, "You know exactly what kind of person you are."

Asher said, "You saying that really hurts. But it's alright. I'll be heading back. I've got things to do tonight."

With that, Asher bid Barrett/farewell and left.

After he left, Elara stepped into the room.

Harold turned to her. "I always said Asher wasn't so bad."

Elara replied, "Enough! Uncle Harold, why don't you head back? III take care of my father here."

Harold looked at her. "Are you trying to get rid of me?"

Elara said, "My father needs rest."

Harold retorted, "All this happened because you didn't listen to me from the start."

Elara snapped, "And how exactly did I mess things up? Lysander and I are married. Do you need to ruin it that badly? What, would you be happy if I divorced him tomorrow?" "I-Harold, caught off guard by her tone, explained, "I was only looking out for you."

Elara replied, "I know you care about me! But right now, I don't want to hear any more lectures. I just want some peace."

Harold said, "Fine. I'll head back to the hotel to take care of things. Call me if you

need anything."

"We'll be going now." Natalie also said her goodbyes to Barrett.

The two of them stepped outside and just happened to see Lysander getting out of his car.

Dressed in a black suit, Lysander looked especially imposing today.

Although Lysander was already married to Elara, Harold couldn't help but feel intimidated by Lysander's presence every time they met.

Crispin noticed Natalie and greeted them, "Mr. Jarvis, Miss Jarvis."

Natalie replied, "My uncle is in stable condition, so we're heading out now."

Crispin said, "Take care."

Harold looked at Lysander, wanting to say something, but he held back, recalling Elara's words.

He thought as much as he disliked it, they were already married

Now, all he could do was hope Elara and Lysander would get along.

In the hospital room, Elara sat watching her father.

Barrett asked, "How are things between you and Lysander? No arguments, I hope?"

Elara replied, "There's nothing worth arguing about."

After all, Lysander hadn't done anything wrong.

Barrett sighed. "Now that he's back with the Hawthorne family, there are many things he can't control, Actually, your uncle

wasn't entirely wrong about some things..."

Elara smiled. "Dad, you're alright, and that's what matters to me. In situations like this, there's no perfect choice. There's always some regret involved.",

She continued, "But it hasn't gotten that serious between Lysander and me. He's not happy about what's happened either. Don't blame him!" Barrett gave her a weary smile. "You've really taken his side now, haven't you?"

Elara replied, "He's back with his family. It was never going to be easy. Facing issues now is normal, isn't it? When is anything ever easy in this world?"

As they spoke, Lysander appeared at the doorway.

He had assumed Elara would be upset with him, but hearing her words eased his mind a little.

Monica entered and looked at Elara. "Elara, I can stay here with Mr. Kensington. Why don't you take a break?"

Today should have been the day Elara and Lysander registered their marriage, but here they were, caught up in all this

chaos.

Elara was about to respond when Monica glanced toward the door, and Elara immediately understood.

She stood up and walked out, replaceing Lysander waiting there.

She walked over to him. "I thought you'd left. Why are you back?"

Lysander replied, "I finished everything up."

Elara followed Lysander outside.

They sat on a wooden bench in the garden, and she looked over at him. "Did things get settled at home? And Juan's father..."

Lysander replied, "His wife came to take him back, and he's already gone home."

Elara froze at this, turning to Lysander in disbelief. "So, after all he had done today, he's just off the hook?"

Lysander didn't reply.

He looked at her, but Elara had already averted her gaze, staring off into the distance and taking a deep breath.

Lysander looked at her. "Elara..."

Elara said, "I'm alright. I'm not angry. I just replace it a little frustrating. I know he's close with your father, and maybe that's why he feels he can get away with anything. But I... never mind."
