After Death, Love Unveiled (Elara and Lysander) -
Unveiled 169
Chapter 169
Crispin explained, "Lysander's arranged everything for her to receive treatment."
Elara asked, "You're going with her?"
Crispin said, "Of course! She's alone, with no one from the Swift family she can rely on. Her father wouldn't care for her at all. I'll stay with her for some time to help her settle down." Elara replied, "That's kind of you."
Crispin added, "Juan mentioned she wanted to see you before she left."
"See me?" Elara was a bit surprised, thinking of Juan, who was usually reserved and rarely expressed much. There was surely something she needed to say if she reached out.
Elara said, "I'll go with you to see her later. Let me finish up here. You can head to the hospital first."
Crispin replied, "No rush. I'll wait for you."
After wrapping things up at the law firm, Elara went to the hospital with Crispin.
Juan lay in the hospital bed, a single yellow rose placed by her side earlier that morning.
Seeing Elara, she greeted her, "Miss Kensington."
Elara remarked, "I've told you to call me Elara. You're always so formal."
Seeing that Elara wasn't annoyed, Juan relaxed a bit and nodded. "Alright."
Elara took a seat beside her. "It's been a busy few days, so I haven't visited," she said.
"I know," Juan replied, looking at her. "Crispin told me. I'm sorry. It's my fault you were caught up in all this. I already told my father that I didn't want to marry Lysander. I don't know what he was thinking..." Seeing Juan's remorseful expression, Elara reassured her, "This isn't on you. Don't dwell on it,"
After all, no one could choose their family.
They could all see Juan's decent nature. However, Orson was something else entirely. He always disregarded Juan's feelings in every
decision he made.
Juan sighed helplessly.
Elara said, "Don't overthink it. Focus on getting better. Remember, no matter what life throws your way, there's always a way forward if you don't give up."
Juan nodded. "I will. When you get married, I'll definitely be there."
Elara smiled. "Of course."
Once Juan's arrangements were settled, Elara saw her off before finally returning home.
Then, she found Asher had stopped by.
Although he hadn't been welcome to visit before, he'd come this time under the pretense of checking in on Barrett, who had recently taken a liking to him. So, they allowed him inside. 1/3

Chapter 169
As soon as Asher saw Elara, he greeted her politely, "Elara."
She responded bluntly, "What are you doing here again?"

Seeing her immediate change in expression, Asher smirked. "I'm only here to check on Mr. Kensington. You don't have to be so hostile! Like it or not, you owe me a favor."
"A favor?" Elara raised an eyebrow. "How exactly do I owe you?"
Asher replied, "Have you already forgotten that I defended you in front of the Hawthornes the other day?"
She felt annoyed that he insisted she owned him because of that
She said, "I agreed to stay out of your business, but Asher, you can't keep showing up at my house."
Asher replied, "I don't really want to. Orson was originally going to invest in my venture. But after I backed you up that night, we had a falling out. So now I'm down one investor." Elara asked, "So, what do you expect?"
"Mr. Kensington has agreed to fund my project," Asher said.
"You..." Elara was stunned. Asher really wouldn't let any opportunity slip by, using her sense of obligation to gain her father's support.
Elara had initially warned her father not to get involved with Asher's business.
But now, feeling indebted after the favor Asher had done, her father would surely not let it go.
Asher smiled and said, "It's partly your fault. If you had let me work with Adam and his team in the first place, none of this would happened. I wouldn't have been tempted by Orson's offer
"So you were tempted," Elara replied, seeing right through him. "You'd sacrifice anyone close to you if it meant getting ahead, wouldn't you?"
Asher countered, "But I didn't sacrifice you. I've always liked you, yet I still encouraged your engagement with Lysander. Don't you think that's a kindness?"
Elara gave him a sharp look. "Resisting the urge to slander me to Orson is kindness? Well, I'm kinder to you, because I've resisted the urge to kill you. Consider it me sparing your life." Asher was rendered speechless.
Just then, Barrett stepped out. "Elara, you're back!"
Elara responded, "Yes, Dad. Why did you let Asher in again?"
Barrett replied, "We were just discussing some company matters. He has some interesting ideas. Besides, he was a big help last time. Asher, why don't you stay for dinner?"
Asher declined politely. "Maybe not tonight. I'll head home instead. Besides, Elara doesn't like my company." His tone carried a mock innocence as if he were a victim.
He glanced at Elara one last time before addressing Barrett, "Another time, Mr. Kensington."
After Asher left, Barrett looked at Elara. "I know you don't get along with him, but he's not exactly an enemy now. Elara, remember, in this world, friends are far more valuable than enemies." Elara studied her father. "You're planning to invest in him?"

"He's got good ideas. Why pass up a profitable opportunity? Besides, we know his background. It's better than investing in a stranger.*
"It sounds like you've made up your mind."
Barrett replied, "I have. I know what I'm doing when it comes to the company."
Seeing her father's determination, Elara decided to let it go.
After all, she rarely interfered in his business dealings, and Barrett had a good track record managing the company, so there was no need to worry. Because Lysander had something on, he did not come over for dinner today.
Sitting at the dinner table, Barrett looked at Elara and asked, "Have you and Lysander decided when you'll be moving out?"
Elara replied, "We'll wait until your health improves."
Barrett said, "I've recovered. I have an event in two days that I'll be traveling for."
Elara agreed. "Alright. Then I'll move out once you've left."
Barrett gazed thoughtfully at his daughter. "How about we visit your mother?"
Elara nodded. "Tomorrow?"
Barrett said, "Yes. You're married now. It would mean a lot to her. She always wanted to see you married."
"Are you up for it?" Elara asked, concerned. "Maybe you should rest, and Lysander and I can go instead."
Barrett said, "I'll be fine. If I'm not feeling well, I won't force myself. We're taking the car anyway."
Elara sighed. "Alright."
Barrett looked at his daughter and chuckled. "You keep a tight watch on me these days."
She replied, "Well, it's because you don't take care of yourself. Dad, don't let the company stress you out so much. Your health has to come first."
He asked with a teasing smile, "What's this? Are you planning to come back and take over for me?"
