After Death, Love Unveiled (Elara and Lysander) -
Unveiled 171
Chapter 171
Adair had invested in Asher's venture. Since he was making money, she naturally felt pleased, thinking her judgment was better than Evelyn's.
Evelyn replied calmly. "Well, I don't have any regret. I'm perfectly fine with things as they are."
Asher turned to Evelyn with a polite smile. "Whenever you change your mind, Ms. Hawthorne, you're always welcome. I'd be happy to collaborate.". Though Adair was already assisting him, Asher still valued Evelyn's connections, hoping to bring her on board if possible. Evelyn gave him a slight smile. "I'll consider it."
Then, Asher looked over at Elara and said, "What about you, Ms. Kensington? How about a tour of our company sometime?" Elara didn't reply immediately.
She recognized his barely concealed smugness. She knew he wasn't inviting her for a tour, He just wanted to show off his success.
She said curtly, "No, I don't have the time."
"Well, that's a shame," Asher replied.
Elara ignored him.
When they finished dinner and stepped out of the private dining room, Adair walked beside Asher.
She said, "Why did you invite Elara to your office? Didn't she steal Ms. Hawthorne from you last time? There's no need to include her in profitable projects." Asher replied, "I knew she wouldn't come. It was just something to say."
Hearing this, Adair relaxed. "Oh, good. For a moment, I thought you actually liked her."
At the mention of his supposed feelings for Elara, Asher's gaze dimmed.
He remembered how, during dinner, Elara'd been sitting right there.
In truth, he'd been sneaking glances at her the entire time. But her gaze barely lingered on him, showing neither interest nor avoidance.
To her, he was irrelevant now.
Even her old animosity seemed gone as if he were nothing more than air to her. Somehow, that indifference stung more than her earlier disdain. "Why aren't you saying anything?" Adair pressed. "You still like her, don't you?"
Asher's expression turned indifferent. "Of course not. Why would I have feelings for a married woman?"
Adair said, "Then why do you keep avoiding me? You're always available for business matters but seem conveniently busy when it's anything else." Asher replied, "I genuinely am busy. Besides...,"
"Besides what?" she asked, watching him closely. "You just don't like me, right?"

Asher laughed softly. Ms. Balslev, with your background, you're out of my league. I know you're interested in some fun, but that's something I can't afford. If it isn't going to lead to marriage, I wouldn't waste my time." "Marriage?" she echoed, slightly taken aback.
Asher said, "Yes. With your standing, marriage to someone like me isn't exactly realistic. So why bring it up? We can enjoy talking about business together." Adair looked at him. "If I were willing to marry you, would you be with me?"
It was a question she hadn't intended seriously. Marriage wasn't in her plans with him. But she was curious about his
response.
Asher paused for a few seconds, then smiled, a charming but cool smile. "Don't joke with me, Ms. Balslev! Your family would never approve of our marriage." Her aunt had married into the Hawthorne family, and her family was well-off.
Even though Asher had grown the Linde family's company and his current projects were doing well, he still couldn't compare to those heirs from wealthy families. The wealth they had accumulated over several generations was something he could never easily match with just his efforts.
Unless Adair genuinely considered marriage with him, he had no reason to invest his time in something without a future.
Adair gave Asher a curious look. "Isn't it a bit early to talk about marriage when we're not even together?"
"I don't waste time on things that aren't worthwhile. I can't afford to take unnecessary risks," Asher said firmly. Adair's car had arrived to pick her up, and Asher turned to her with a polite nod. "Take care, Ms. Balslev."
She looked at him, noticing his restrained gaze. Her heart skipped a beat.
She had always thought herself too detached to get emotionally involved with anyone.
But as she looked at him, she felt a strange impulse to protect him.
She thought the idea of marrying him didn't seem bad at all.

Elara accompanied Cynthia to the restroom, and they were just chatting as they walked back out.
At the door, they ran into a familiar face. It was Daphne, someone they hadn't seen in a while.
Daphne's once sleek, straight hair was now styled in loose waves. She greeted Elara warmly, saying, "Elara!"
Elara responded, "What are you doing here?"
Daphne smiled. "I've been back for a while. I came with my boyfriend."
Elara raised an eyebrow. "Boyfriend?"
Daphne said, "Yes! We were set up by our families. It was through a blind date. How have you been? It's been so long since I last saw you." Elara replied, "I've been well."
Seeing Daphne again, Elara noticed she looked more mature and even more beautiful than before. However...

There was an unexplainable feeling Elara couldn't quite shake as she looked at Daphne.
Cynthia, standing nearby, also recognized Daphne and greeted her before she and Elara moved on.

Daphne didn't try to stop them. She simply stood there, watching Elara for a moment. The smile on her face faded.
After all this time, she saw Elara again and realized she was still doing well.
Daphne and Asher had once hoped that Elara would be dumped by Lysander, but it turned out she hadn't been.
Elara walked with Cynthia as they took the elevator down.
Cynthia commented, "I'm surprised she greeted you. I thought she'd hate you by now!"
Elara replied, "Me too."
Back then, Daphne should have gotten closer to Marcus. But in the end, Elara cut her path short, and she had to return to Brookfield.
Elara never expected to run into her again and replace her so calm and friendly. It was remarkable.
When Elara and Cynthia reached the lobby, Asher's car was still outside.
He rolled down the window and asked, "Shall I give you a ride?"
Cynthia glanced at Asher. "No need, Mr. Blackwood."
Asher turned to Elara. "Elara, how about you?"
Elara answered, "I drove here." And with that, she walked off.
Asher watched her walk away, sighing as she left.
Just then, Daphne stepped out of the elevator and noticed Asher sitting in his car.
He was looking in the direction Elara had gone, a faint smile on his lips. Then, he rolled
up
the window.
Earlier in the day, Daphne had seen Asher's interview online.
She never thought he had become the founder of QuickClip. She also heard he was now the CEO of the Linde Group.
She had assumed he'd fail back then. But he was thriving and successful once again.
Elara was born under a lucky star. However, Daphne was fuming about why Asher had such luck too. Unlike her...
