Edith raised her head, looked at Asher who seemed calm and rational, and said, "Don't you feel sad about Andrei's death? You and he have lived together for a long time."

Asher responded, "Death comes to everyone. Take it easy." One day, death would replace him too.

Instantly, Edith's face darkened. "Do you know what you are talking about?"

Asher didn't want to argue with his sad mother, so he said, "I know that you are sorrowful because Andrei is dead. Don't worry. I am here and will take good care of you and Violet."

Hearing Asher, Edith took a deep breath before she asked, "How I told you to build a good relationship with Evelyn, but you ignored my advice. Now that Andrei is gone, what can you do?" It sounded like she couldn't live without a man. Asher looked at his mother and didn't talk back because he thought his relationship with Evelyn was good.

'I earn Evelyn's admiration with my expertise though there is no love. I am qualified to negotiate with Evelyn at the table while the other men are just her dispensable pets. Even so, Mom still wants me to sell myself to Evelyn. Interesting...' He thought. Asher didn't share his true thoughts with his mother and just got her sent home.

After the problems of the Linde Group were solved, Asher finally had time to go to the law firm. There, he failed to replace Elara who was away for her new case.

The young woman sitting opposite Elara wore no makeup and kept her head down as she said, "Miss Kensington, I know there is no hope for me to win the case, but I still want to sue him. I want to give it a try..."

Looking at Emily Cooper, Elara said, "Are you sure?"

Emily nodded. "Yes!"

It was late when the talk ended.

Elara walked out of the cafe, checked her watch, and found that the talk had cost her a lot of time.

Lysander's car stopped by the road. Elara opened the door, got in the car, and said with her gaze at Lysander who had been away for days, "I'm sorry for being late. Have you been waiting long?"

What a surprise that he is still here! I thought he would have left Elara thought.

Lysander turned to Elara and said, "No."

Elara suggested, "Let's go straight to my father's place." Yesterday, she had made an appointment with Lysander about the dinner at her father's place today.

Lysander asked, "What case are you working on?"

"A rape," Elara replied. "A nineteen-year-old girl was raped. She filed a police report, but she was slandered as a liar for the reason that the accused surrounded by many pretty women must have no interest in her. She was said to pester the accused will get pretty and cause trouble after she failed to get what she wanted. However, she indeed got hurt. Not only the

Lysander said to Elara, Do you have the confidence to win?"

"Not very much," Elara said. "But I will give it a try."

Right then, the phone rang, and Elara answered the call. "Hello.

"Where are you?" It was a question from Asher.

This call took Elara by surprise. After a while, she answered, "None of your business."

"Elara, I want to meet with you. I went to your firm, and they said you were out." After work, Asher walked out of the company and suddenly realized that there was not a soul he could trust in this large city.

He seemed to be a member of the Linde family and had a sister and his mother by his side...

However, what his mother had said to Andrei often echoed in his mind. Suddenly, he wanted to see Elara.

"Insane!" Speaking, Elara hung up the phone and blacklisted Asher's new phone number.

Sitting in the car, Asher frustratedly smiled at his phone which indicated that the call was over. He had nowhere to go but to the Kensington's.

Barrett was home, and Asher wanted a chat with him. Because of those old days in the Kensington family, Asher sometimes felt that Barret was more like his family. 'At least, Barrett was good to me most of the time.' He thought. Asher saw Lysander and Elara when his car stopped in the courtyard of the Kensington family.

Elara got out of the car, walked to Lysander, and led him into the house hand in hand.

Their intimacy stung Asher who intended to get out of the.car. 'She must be with Lysander when I called. Asher thought. Instantly, he found himself ridiculous.

'How could I forget that she is married and that her husband is Lysander! Things won't work out between her and me anymore. Asher thought.

Elara followed Lysander across the threshold, and the servants greeted them.

In the foyer, Lysander stopped and looked out of the door. His abrupt move aroused curiosity from Elara, so she asked, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Lysander shifted his gaze to Elara and said, "Come." He suddenly remembered the unfamiliar car outside as he was vigilant about details like this.

Thus, Elara dropped the topic and didn't give much thought to this hiccup.

Barrett had gotten a feast ready, and there were Harold and Natalie too. At the sight of Elara who was late, Barrett asked, "Are you busy?" "Sorry that I lost track of time," Elara said, feeling a bit ashamed.

Everyone took their seats respectively, and the atmosphere was lively.

Barrett looked at the clock on the wall and said, "Asher called and said that he wanted a word with me. Why hasn't he arrived yet? Let me give him a ring." Elara looked at her father and remembered the call she had received on the way home.

Barrett called, but Asher did not answer his call. He put down his phone and said, "He didn't answer my call. Whatever. Help yourselves."

Lysander looked at Barrett and asked, "It is said that you are doing business with Asher, Is it true?"

"He helped Elara at the banquet, didn't he? I gave him an investment."

Hearing the conversation, Elara looked at Lysander. Both Barrett and Steven had a problem with Orson after that incident. Meanwhile, their attitude towards Asher changed a bit.

Back then, Asher had clarified his relationship with Elara. Even so, Elara didn't know what Lysander thought of that clarification.

After dinner, Elara and Lysander went home together. In the car she asked, "Are you unhappy with my father's investment in Asher?"

During the dinner, Lysander had dropped the topic about the investment shortly after that one question.

The car stopped at a red light. Lysander placed one hand on the steering wheel, and his fingers were slender. He glanced at Elara at her question and then said, "No! I was just asking."

Elara said, "My father went to school with Asher's father and gave financial aid to Asher..." She gave an explanation for fear that Lysander would misunderstand her father.

Lysander interrupted Elára by saying, "Elara, you don't have to explain. I am not unhappy. It is a small world, and I do owe Asher a favor because of my misjudgment in that incident. I am not unhappy." "Really?" Elara couldn't tell whether Lysander was telling the truth. It was difficult for her to see through the elusive Lysander sometimes.

Lysander asked, "Do you like him?"

"Of course not!"

"There is nothing to worry about then," Lysander said. "I know that you won't be with him or like him."

"You were quite concerned about him."

Lysander smiled. He looked good when he smiled. "There were a lot of things I didn't understand. Now, I think I should have more confidence in you."

"No confusion anymore?"

"Probably."

"You are acting all mysterious lately." Elara glanced at Lysander.

When the car stopped in the garage, the Hawthorne couple arrived home. Lysander took the bag for Elara, got out of the car, and waited for her. She took his hand, and they went into the house together. Her phone rang. After one glance at her phone screen, she said, "I got to take this call."

Lysander commented, "You have a lot of calls today."

""It is about work."

Elara walked away with her phone. Soon, A man's voice came from the other end of the line. "Ms. Kensington?"

""Yes, I am."
