Chapter 181

Elara looked at Lysander, holding his hand. "I just didn't expect you to say this. I thought you'd have the same opinion as they do," she said..

She had been thinking about this issue for a long time, worried that she might take the wrong path or make the wrong decision.

But Lysander's presence gave her the confidence to make a choice without fear. Hearing her words, Lysander said, "I don't think the way they do."

Elara lifted her head to look at him. "Huh?" she asked.

"You've done what you wanted to do, and that shows you're a good person," Lysander said. "Your heart still burns with passion and kindness. You're willing to contribute what you can for this world.

"Whether the people you help are worthy of it or not, that's their problem. Doing good is never wrong. As long as it's within. your ability, I hope you can live the way you want."

Elara leaned against his chest, playing with his long, slender fingers, tracing each one gently.

Under the soft light of the bedroom, Lysander studied her. "When do you plan to sleep?" he asked.

"I'm starting to feel a little tired," Elara replied. "I felt pretty awful earlier, but now that you're back, I feel a lot more at ease."

"Looks like my presence does have some value for you, Elara," Lysander said with a faint smile.

Elara raised her head. The wine she had drunk earlier was starting to take effect. As she looked at him, she found that he somehow seemed even more handsome than before. She stared at him, her gaze lingering and unbroken. Lysander had originally come back to comfort her. Seeing her cry earlier had left him flustered and unsure of how to console her.

Now, noticing her staring at him, his Adam's apple moved slightly, and his voice dropped to a lower register. "If you keep looking at me like that, don't expect to get any sleep tonight," he said.

As soon as Lysander finished speaking, Elara leaned in and kissed him, a soft kiss landing on his cheek. "You made the first move," Lysander said with a smirk.

When Elara tried to pull back, Lysander didn't give her the chance. He took the lead, deepening the kiss with determination.

By the time Elara woke up at noon, Lysander was still there He was wearing a simple white T-shirt, a look that reminded her of his days as a student.

Lying in bed, Elara replayed the events of the previous night in her mind. She vaguely remembered acting like a fool in front of him when he came back. Embarrassed, she pulled the blanket over her head to hide herself. "Awake?" Lysander's voice broke the silence.

From under the covers, Elara's muffled voice responded. "Why are you still here?"

"I happen to have the morning off," Lysander said casually. "So I figured I'd wait for you to wake up. Didn't sleep well?"

Elara pulled the blanket down slightly, revealing just her eyes. "Normally, you'd be gone by now."

Hearing that, Lysander raised an eyebrow. "What, can't wait for me to leave? Seems like you're living the good life when I'm not around," he teased.

Elara sat up, noticing that her clothes had been changed, and the wine she'd opened last night was already cleaned up.

She looked at him, remembering how gentle he had been when he spoke to her the night before. It felt almost dreamlike. But now, the way he was looking at her carried a subtle pressure like she owed him money or something. "You weren't like this last night," she said, frowning slightly.

"How was I last night?" Lysander asked, tilting his head. When she didn't answer, he pressed again. "Huh?"

Elara froze for a moment, startled. She had been referring to the way he acted when he first returned, but for some reason, it felt like Lysander wasn't even talking about the same thing.

She got out of bed and avoided his gaze. "I'm going to wash up," she said. Without waiting for a response, Elara walked straight into the bathroom.

Standing before the mirror, Elara stood in front of the mirror, studying her reflection as scenes from the night before with Lysander played through her mind.

She realized that after a little alcohol had gone to her head, being with Lysander felt easier, more natural, and less burdened by the usual distance between them.

A knock at the door broke her thoughts. Lysander's voice came from the other side. "I'll wait for you downstairs. Once you're ready, come out for lunch."

"Okay," Elara replied. Only after she heard him leave did she feel at ease enough to open the door and take a quick glance outside.

After finishing her morning routine, Elara came downstairs. Lysander was already seated in the dining room. He was dressed quite conservatively today, with his shirt buttoned all the way up to the collar.

The reserved demeanor was a stark contrast to the man she'd seen last night. In his hands was a magazine he appeared to be reading.

Elara found it surprising. 'Who even reads magazines these days? she wondered. She couldn't help but admire him for it.

Ursa greeted her warmly. "Good afternoon, Ms. Kensington."

"Good afternoon," Elara replied as she took a seat and began her meal.

Lysander looked up at her and asked, "Feeling better today?"

Elara met his gaze and nodded. "Yes."

"If you ever need help, don't hesitate to let me know. Though, I get the feeling you'd prefer it if I didn't step in right away," Lysander said with a small smirk.

"Got it," Elara replied with a soft smile. Though Lysander was often absent, there was no denying that he understood her better than anyone else in the world.

At the office, when Elara arrived at the office, she went straight to see Evelyn. The moment Evelyn saw her walk in, she found no hesitation on Elara's face this time. "Have you made up your mind?" she asked.

"Yes. I'll take on Emily's case," Elara said firmly. "Not only will I take it, but I'm going to win."

As soon as she finished speaking, Evelyn chuckled.

"Evelyn, Elara said, frowning. "I just told you my decision, and you're already laughing at me?"

Chapter 1ST

Tim not laughing at you." Evelyn replied. "I just thought after spending the whole night thinking, you'd come back with a surprising answer. Turns out, it's just this?"

"You don't seem the least bit surprised," Elara said.

"You're as stubborn as your mother," Evelyn continued. "But seriously, what made you change your mind? You weren't this determined yesterday."

"Lysander came back," Elara said, her happiness evident. "He told me to do whatever I wanted and that he'd always be by my side.*

The smile on Evelyn's face froze slightly. "Please, stop. I just broke up with someone, and I can't handle hearing about how sweet you two are right now."

"You broke up? What happened?" Elara asked, her tone filled with curiosity.

"He was way too clingy. I couldn't stand it, so I ended it. He kept asking me what I was doing all day long. I'm not in the mood to see you flaunt your relationship with Lysander right now," Evelyn said with mock exasperation. "Well, Lysander does have a way of understanding my thoughts," Elara replied.

Evelyn scoffed playfully. "Oh, so having him makes you special, right? Whatever. Since you've made your decision, I'll leave it to you. Here, take this."

Evelyn pulled out a folder and placed it on the table.

"What's this?" Elara asked curiously.

She walked over and opened the folder. Her eyes widened as she scanned the contents. "Is this real?"

eyes

Evelyn nodded. "Yes. This is something Jack was involved in. I happened to have the materials, so I'm giving them to you."

"You have something like this?" Elara asked, astonished.

"A friend gave it to me," Evelyn explained, her tone casual. "Consider yourself lucky."

The folder contained information about another victim, an underage girl, even younger than Emily, who had been forced to have an abortion.

Jack had paid a large sum and wielded considerable influence, and the girl and her family hadn't dared to oppose him, so the parents chose to remain silent.

Now, with this evidence, the chances of convicting Jack were significantly higher. Clutching the folder, Elara said, "Thank you, Evelyn. I'll get to work right away."

As Elara walked out the door, Evelyn lifted her head and picked up her phone. She sent a quick message. [She has what she needs now.]
