Chapter 188

"What's so funny?" Lysander asked.

"Darling," Elara said with a grin, "I feel like your thoughts are getting more and more upright these days. If I don't work on improving myself, I won't be able to keep up with you." "You really do need to work on that," Lysander replied matter-of-factly.

Elara huffed. "You're so annoying. You spend all day teaching other people at work, and then you come home and start lecturing me. I don't even want to talk to you anymore." She leaned against him, noticing how he had become so serious and straight-laced in his speech lately.

Probably because of his job, she thought. He wasn't nearly as fun or cute as he used to be.

When they got home, Elara fell asleep leaning against Lysander.

After parking the car, he carefully carried her inside and placed her on the couch. Just as he was settling her down, his phone

rang.

The sound of his voice stirred Elara awake. She blinked her eyes open, hearing him talking on the phone as he sat beside her, careful not to disturb her.

Elara reached out and held his hand. He glanced at her and gently clasped her hand in his as he continued his call.

When he finally hung up, he turned his attention to her. Noticing that she was intently playing with his fingers, he asked, "Are my fingers that fun to play with?" "You've got

calluses now," Elara said, tracing them with her thumb. "They used to be so smooth and nice to touch."

Although his hands were still beautiful, the roughness made her heart ache. She knew he never mentioned how hard thi were, but it must have been exhausting. Lysander glanced at his hand and shrugged. "You get used to it. It's nothing."

"Who was that on the phone just now?" Elara asked.

Standing up, Lysander removed his jacket, revealing his lean, toned waist beneath his shirt.

"It was about Jack," Lysander replied, meeting her gaze. "They got a little heavy-handed while taking him down. He wasn't lucky this time. He ended up with a broken bone. They just wanted to let me know." Hearing Jack's name, Elara thought back to how helpless he had seemed when confronted by them and the beating that followed. Yet Lysander's calm, matter-of-fact tone made it all seem perfectly reasonable. She studied him for a moment, then chuckled. "Why do I feel like you're getting more scheming these days?"

Instead of replying, Lysander called out, "Hey, Ursa."

Ursa quickly appeared. "What can I do for you, Mr. Hawthorne?"

"Is dinner ready? Elara must be hungry," Lysander said.

"Almost. Just five more minutes," Ursa replied.

Lysander sat back down and said to Elara, "Alright, get up and eat

"I'm skipping dinner. I'm trying to lose weight. I've put on some pounds lately," Elara said, leaning lazily against the couch.

Lysander raised an eyebrow, eyeing her delicate, slender figure. You're sure about that?"

"Absolutely. Feel for yourself," Elara teased, grabbing his hand and placing it on her waist.

Lysander's gaze darkened instantly, and his voice dropped. Leaning in close, he wrapped an arm around her and murmured against her ear, "If you're not eating dinner, how about I feed you something else?" Elara shot up from the couch in a flash. "You know what? Dinner sounds great!"

She hurried off to the dining room, leaving Lysander behind. He watched her retreating figure with a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

He was still young, and to maintain authority in front of others, he always made sure to keep his demeanor distant. But sometimes, that seriousness would creep into his interactions with Elara too. Seeing her flustered reaction, however, he couldn't help but chuckle softly.

Ursa's cooking was excellent, and Elara's mood noticeably improved as she ate.

"I thought surprise!"

I'd be stuck at home alone for the next couple of days she said to Lysander. "But here you are. What a nice

"You're that happy I came back?" Lysander asked, raising an eyebrow.

"What kind of silly question is that?" Elara said, rolling her eyes. Of course I'm happy! I've been wishing you'd come back sq you could stay by my side every day."

Lysander's gaze softened as he looked at her. "Then how about I come back, and you take care of me?"

"I'll take care of you," Elara said with a smirk. "It's not like I can't afford to."

With her own company, stocks, and even her father's side of things, supporting Lysander wouldn't be an issue at all.

Lysander's eyes softened slightly. Even though he didn't need her to support him, hearing such sweet words was undeniably pleasant.

At the Myerson residence, Sully had just walked through the door when he saw Melody sitting on the couch."You're finally back," she said, standing up, her expression filled with urgency. Sully slowly took off his coat, his glasses perched neatly on his face, showing not even the slightest hint of concern.

"I called you," Melody pressed. "Why didn't you pick up?"

"I was busy," Sully replied calmly.

"Jack's in trouble," Melody said anxiously. "He's been arrested."

Even at this, Sully didn't seem rattled. He sat down and looked at Melody. "I warned you before to keep him in check. You didn't care at all. Wasn't this bound to happen sooner or later?" "I don't care," Melody said stubbornly. "He's my only son, and you need to step in. All it takes is a word from you. You're not seriously going to let him go to jail, are you?" 11:17 Tue, Nov 26

"Then let him go," Sully-replied indifferently. "It's not like he's a good person anyway."

"Sully!" Melody's face turned red with anger. "How can you say something like that? He's your own nephew! If it weren't for me raising you, would you even have the life you have now?" Sully remained unmoved. He'd heard plenty about Jack's reckless behavior, but it wasn't something he could control.

Melody coddled Jack relentlessly, always insisting he was still just a kid. The so-called kid was nearly thirty and still running wild. Sully couldn't understand what went on in Melody's head. Jack might be his nephew, but Sully found his actions intolerable. When Sully didn't respond, Melody added, "Don't you want to know who got him arrested? It was Wyatt's son." Hearing Wyatt's name, a chill flashed through Sully's eyes. He looked at Melody. "Is that so?"

'I knew it,' Melody thought to herself. 'He can't stand hearing that name.

"I'm not lying to you," she said smugly. "The Hawthorne family is nothing but trouble. They're stepping all over your nephew now. Sully, bullying Jack is the same as bullying you. "Just think back to what Wyatt did to you. If it weren't for him, Yessenia wouldn't have... Can you really swallow this?"

"I'll look into it," Sully said.

"You'd better do something," Melody urged. "Jack's had it rough enough. You're his uncle. He's never had a father to rely on. You're all he's got."

After having someone escort Melody out, Sully picked up his phone and made a call.

In the bedroom, Lysander had just stepped out of the shower, his presence radiating a masculine allure that mad heart race.

Nestled in his arms, Elara nuzzled against him, basking in the warmth of his embrace.

The sound of a ringing phone broke the moment. Lysander sighed, loosening his hold on her and sitting up to answer.

"Hello?" Lysander said flatly.

"Hello, Lysander?" came a voice from the other end.

"Do I know you?" Lysander asked, his tone cold.

"This is Sully. I'd like to invite you to dinner. Would that be alright?"

"I'm busy," Lysander replied curtly.

"Well then, I suppose I'll have to approach your wife instead," Sully said lightly.

Lysander's face darkened instantly. "When?"

"Whenever works for you," Sully said smoothly. "You're in Starfield City now, aren't you? How about tomorrow?"

"Okay," Lysander said, his tone icy as he hung up the phone.

Tossing the phone aside, he returned to Elara's side. "Who was that?" Elara asked.
