Chapter 190
Lysander had lived with the pain of his mother's tragedy for years.
Even if he chose to return to the Hawthorne family and rejoin his biological father, that was his decision. No one had the right to dictate that the struggles of the previous generation must be borne by him. Seeing Elara standing up for Lysander so firmly, Sully chuckled. "Elara, you don't need to rush to defend him. If it weren't for the Hawthorne family back then, your mother wouldn't have won that case. "I just don't want him to be deceived by Wyatt. I hold no ill will toward Lysander."
Elara's voice turned sharp. "But you said that by going back to the Hawthorne family, he's disregarding what happened to his mother. You don't know a thing, so don't say things like that."
Sully sighed in resignation. "Alright. Maybe you're right. But I'll say this again. The Hawthorne family is no good for either of you.
"I hope you'll both stay far away from them, whether it's you or Lysander. "Lysander glanced at Sully and gave a mocking smile.
Sully noticed and asked, "Do you have something to say?"
"You're my mother's ex-husband?" Lysander asked bluntly.
Yes," Sully admitted. "If it hadn't been for Wyatt, Yessenia and I would've been happy together for the rest of our lives." "Really?" Lysander said coldly. "From what I heard, it was your infidelity that led my mother to Wyatt in the first place." Sully defended himself. "I've told you. I was framed by Wyatt."
"That just proves how useless you are, doesn't it?" Lysander's tone was sharp and unrelenting. "You couldn't even protect your wife. You let yourself be framed and then stood by while she married someone else.
"And when she'd already moved on, you had the audacity to tell her the truth and act like you were innocent. If you ask me, I'd say you share responsibility for my mother's death."
His words were fierce and uncompromising.
Sully was stunned. For a moment, he was left speechless by Lysander's accusation. 'Was it really my fault that Yessenia ended up this way?' he thought to himself.
Lysander stood up abruptly. "We won't be staying for dinner. That's it for today. Mr. Myerson, since you didn't invite us here to discuss Jack, we're leaving." Elara followed his lead, rising from her seat. It was clear that Sully had thoroughly annoyed Lysander.
As the two walked out, Sully trailed after them and called out, "Lysander, no matter what, hope you'll think about what I
mother..." said. You can ignore me, but your
"I'll consider it," Lysander interrupted.
Before Sully could say more, a familiar voice rang out nearby. "Hello, Mr. Hawthorne." Elara turned toward the voice and saw Wyatt approaching with his secretary in tow.
Wyatt's face grew cold the moment he saw Lysander and Sully together. Though his expression was usually calm and composed, there was an undeniable hint of tension in his eyes.

Chapter 190
Sully greeted him openly, showing no sign of guilt. "Good day, Mr. Hawthorne."
Wyatt frowned and asked, "What are you doing here? And with lysander?"
If one looked closely, one could catch the rare flash of nervousness in Wyatt's usually unreadable demeanor.
Sully replied casually, "I just wanted to discuss something with Lysander. Mr. Hawthorne, since you're here, I won't intrude any longer."
He turned to Lysander and patted him lightly on the shoulder, Think carefully about what I said." Without waiting for a response, Sully walked off.
Wyatt's gaze darkened as he watched Sully leave. Wyatt's secretary turned to Lysander with a stern expression. "Lysander, why were you associating with him?"
Sully had always been a thorn in Wyatt's side. Because of Yessenia, Wyatt had spent years avoiding direct conflict with him. Even when Sully stirred up trouble, Wyatt would swallow his anger. But now, seeing Sully approach Lysander was like a fresh wound for Wyatt.
Lysander looked at the secretary's serious face and asked calmly "Are you questioning me?"
"I..." The secretary faltered, silenced by Lysander's sharp, unwavering gaze.
"I..." The secretary faltered, silenced by Lysander's sharp, unwavering gaze.
Lysander added, "We have other matters to attend to, so we'll be going now." Without waiting for a reply, he turned and walked away, with Elara following close behind.
Lysander finished speaking, grabbed Elara by the arm, and strode away, leaving Wyatt and his secretary standing where they
were.
Elara jogged to keep up with him and asked, "Why didn't you explain anything to your dad? He might misunderstand and think you're siding with Sully."
"Siding with Sully? No way." Lysander echoed, raising an eyebrow. He glanced at Elara, slowed his pace, and extended his hand to hold hers. "You're hungry, aren't you? Let me take you to eat." Elara looked at Lysander's calm demeanor, as if nothing had happened, and followed him. The two of them found a spot to eat, still within the estate. After all, they were already there. However, they avoided eating with Sully. With no outsiders present, just the two of them, Elara relaxed and ordered a few of her favorite dishes. Sitting beside Lysander, she said, "Don't let Sully's words get to you. I know how important your mom is to you." It was precisely because of this that Lysander's relationship with his father had always been distant. That man was his biological father, but no one said he had to carry resentment in their relationship. Hatred was exhausting. Lysander looked at Elara and said, "Don't worry about me. I'm fine. My connection to the Hawthorne family has always been lukewarm. I don't let others' opinions of me matter." Except for Elara's, of course. Elara smiled. "Good. I was worried Sully came because of Jack, but it turns out he was here for you. That was unexpected."
She had been tense for so long earlier. Now, it seemed that Jack's backing wasn't as solid as she had imagined. Even so, it was clear Wyatt seemed genuinely wary of Sully. Otherwise, with the way Sully spoke to him earlier, Wyatt would've lost his temper. No wonder Jack had the nerve to claim he looked down on the Hawthorne family.
As Elara and Lysander were halfway through their meal, Natalie walked in. "What are you two doing here?"

Elara replied, "We had a meeting over dinner, but it didn't work out, so we came here instead."
Natalie sat down and asked, "Which room? Don't tell me it was that room?"
"It was," Elara confirmed with a nod.
Natalie frowned. "That's one of my dad's friends. He specifically set it up. No idea what it was about, though."
Natalie didn't seem to know Sully's identity, let alone his connection to Jack.
Elara said, "We've already talked." She glanced at Lysander as she spoke.
Natalie caught on immediately. "So he ticked Lysander off, huh?"
Lysander shot Natalie a brief glance. "I'm fine."
Natalie leaned in closer to Elara and whispered, "What's up with him? He looks a bit scary."
Elara sized up Lysander and recalled that his current demeanor wasn't out of the ordinary. He had been like this lately. It was just that Natalie hadn't been around him much recently. Elara said, "He's fine."
Natalie nodded. "Alright then. I'll leave you to it. Enjoy your meal."
Noticing Lysander's dark expression, Natalie decided not to stick around. Unlike Elara, she couldn't tolerate his stern demeanor.
Lysander might have only been in his twenties, but his maturity and severity made him seem much older. After Natalie left, Elara resumed eating.
Elara took a bite of shrimp, and Lysander suddenly asked, "Were you talking bad about me?"
