Chapter 196

Sometimes, he would look for traces of Yessenia in her. But now Wyatt said, "No matter how much you resemble her, you're not her. Even if you die the way she did, you'll never become her Yessenia had passed away long ago. He should have accepted that reality a long time ago.

It was his refusal to let go that had dragged him deeper into this obsession, and in turn, pulled Felicity down with him.

Hearing Wyatt's words, Felicity froze for a few seconds, staring at him in disbelief. For someone who had been Yessenia's stand-in for so many years, his words cut far too deeply.

"Get some rest. I'll arrange for your surgery," Wyatt said, turning around and walking out the door.

Elara was standing just outside, having overheard their conversation. Wyatt stepped out and saw her. "Hi, Elara."

Elara nodded. "I came to check on Mrs. Hawthorne."

"Okay," Wyatt said curtly before walking off with a group of people trailing behind him.

Elara watched him leave before stepping into the hospital room. Felicity's eyes were red, tears streaming down her face.

Elara looked at her and said, "Hi, Mrs. Hawthorne."

Felicity greeted her. "Hi, Elara."

Seeing Felicity in tears, Elara asked, "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," Felicity said, her voice trembling. "It's just... I feel like such a fool."

She had been so afraid that if she stopped resembling Yessenia, he would no longer love her. But the truth was, even if she looked exactly like Yessenia, she could never measure up in his eyes. Felicity had overestimated her importance.

Elara said gently, "I think what you need to focus on now is getting better. You're still young, and there's so much ahead of you."

Felicity was only forty, and her son still had a long future ahead of him. "You're right," Felicity said.

"So, does that mean you've decided to go through with the treatment?" Elara asked.

Felicity nodded. "After all, he doesn't care what I become, does he? I'll get better, won't I?"

For a brief moment, as she thought about the long road ahead, Felicity suddenly felt a surge of courage.

Once she stopped caring about his opinion of her, it no longer seemed so important whether she became beautiful or ugly.

How foolish she had been, avoiding surgery out of fear that he might despise her.

Elara smiled. "Yes, that's the right mindset. The more you care about someone, the less they care about you."

"Yeah," she nodded.

Elara stayed with Felicity in the room until evening, chatting about novels. Felicity was fond of reading, so Elara recommended a few popular titles she had come across recently When Aubrey walked in, he was surprised to see Elara still there "Elara, you're still here?"

"I had some free time, so-l-stayed a bit longer," Elara replied, looking at him. "You've been at the hospital a lot lately; it must be exhausting. Why don't I stay and take care of her tonight while you go home and get some rest?" She had heard that he had been keeping vigil at the hospital every night.

Aubrey glanced at his mother, hesitating. "But I..."

"Go home and rest," Felicity interrupted. "I'll be fine on my own. Besides, I've already decided to go through with the surgery."

Aubrey was surprised to hear this. "Really?"

"Yes," Felicity said firmly. "I can't sacrifice my life for the sake of what others think of me."

"That's wonderful, Mom," Aubrey said, visibly relieved.

"Alright, now go," Felicity urged.

Aubrey gave Elara a hesitant look before finally leaving the room. Once he was gone, Felicity turned to Elara. "Elara, you should go home too. The hospital staff will take care of me. I'll be fine." Elara said, "I'll leave in a little while."

Felicity looked at her and said, "If my surgery goes well and I recover, I want to divorce Wyatt."

Elara was slightly surprised but quickly composed herself. "Whatever makes you happy. That's all that matters."

Felicity said, "I can't keep pouring all my energy into a man. He doesn't care about me, even after all these years. I think it's time I start living for myself."

For some reason, something that Felicity never dared to imagine before now seemed entirely possible.

Elara chuckled. "If it's what you want to do, no one can stop you."

When Elara returned from the hospital, she lay on her bed, a smile tugging at her lips.

Lysander was sitting beside her. Watching her roll over with such a cheerful expression, he asked, "What are you smiling about?" "Nothing," Elara replied, glancing at him. "Mrs. Hawthorne said that once she recovers, she's planning to divorce Mr. Hawthorne." "And that makes you this happy?" Lysander asked.

"Why wouldn't it?" Elara said. "She loved him too much before, to the point where even when she was sick, he couldn't give her a shred of kindness.

"After the divorce, she won't have to revolve around him anymore. She's not lacking money. Why not replace a few young guys and enjoy the rest of her life?"

Speaking of this, Elara added, "Evelyn has a new boyfriend again. She always says that once I reach her age, I'll understand her. Looking at it now, she might be the smartest one among us. "Elara," Lysander said, his face darkening, "do you envy them or something?"

Elara noticed his unhappy expression and quickly said, "I'm just talking about them, not me."

Lysander lay down beside her. "You have some serious issues. You spend your days thinking about the most unmeaning things."

"Who said it's unmeaning?" Elara retorted. "I think my thoughts are perfectly reasonable. What's so wrong about them?"

Hearing this, Lysander's expression grew even darker. He pulled the blanket over the two of them.

"Lysander!" Elara protested from under the covers. "What are you doing?" She wriggled out from under the blanket, only for him to pull her back.

Wrapping his arms around her from behind, he said, "If you keep saying nonsense like that, I'll have to teach you a lesson. Thinking about other men? Keep dreaming,"

Elara replied, "Hey, when did I say I was looking for someone else? You're the one jumping to conclusions! All I said was Aunt Zavala has a clear perspective on life. I never said I wanted to be like her."

"How would I know?" Lysander said, his gaze intense. "As long as I'm alive, you're not allowed to look at anyone else." Hearing him say this so seriously, Elara reached out and pinched his cheek. "Got it. You are so possessive." After Felicity's surgery date was confirmed, Elara frequently visited the hospital. When the surgery was successfully completed, Felicity had a small section of hair shaved behind her ear, revealing a scar.

However, the scar was far less prominent than initially expected. It was faint and barely noticeable. Once her hair grew back, it would be completely hidden.

Elara sat beside her, peeling fruit when Wyatt walked in from outside. "Feeling any better?"

Seeing him, Elara quickly stood up. "Hello, Mr. Hawthorne."

Wyatt's gaze fell on Felicity. Unlike before, Felicity no longer greeted him with her usual beaming smile. Her response was distant, almost indifferent. "Yes." SEND GIFT
