Chapter 197

Wyatt didn't overthink it. Seeing Felicity in her current state, he assumed she'd recently undergone surgery, which might explain her low spirits.

He took a seat and said to Felicity, "If you're feeling unwell, make sure you let the doctor know."

Felicity nodded. "I know. You can go ahead and take care of your work. I'm fine here at the hospital. Elara has been staying with me a lot recently."

Aside from Aubrey, Elara was the one who had spent the most time with her. Felicity was genuinely touched.

Wyatt turned to Elara. "Elara, thank you."

"It's nothing, really. It's what I should do. Since Mr. Hawthorne is here now, I'll get going. I have something to take care of," Elara said as she left the hospital room. After she was gone, Wyatt shifted his focus back to Felicity.

As Elara stepped out of the hospital, she was stopped before she could leave.

"Wait, Ms. Kensington," a voice called out.

Elara looked up to see a woman standing in her path, Jack's mother.

She carried a Hermès bag and radiated an air of wealth, though her efforts to appear sophisticated couldn't hide her lack of refinement.

The Hacker family wasn't originally one of the truly wealthy elite. Their fortune had been built in recent years through business ventures.

No matter how much Melody tried to rebrand herself, her tasteless sense of style always betrayed her roots.

"What is it?" Elara asked calmly.

Melody looked her over from head to toe. "So, you're the one who got my son sent to prison?"

Elara blinked, surprised by the accusation. "What are you talking about? Didn't your son end up there because of his own actions?"

"Emily is just slandering my son. Jack is a good man. He'd never do those things! Those women are just trying to seduce him because he's rich.

"Emily posted all that online because she didn't get what she wanted. She's just bitter because she couldn't marry into the Hacker family!" Melody ranted, her voice dripping with indignation.

Elara couldn't help but smile faintly at Melody's delusion. "This has nothing to do with me, and frankly, it's not my concern."

But Melody, clearly unwilling to give up, continued with a sneer "I came to warn you. Mind your own business, or you'll regret it."

"Thanks for the advice," Elara replied lightly. "But maybe you should worry more about Jack. Now that he's in prison, who knows if he'll ever get out."

"Don't worry. He'll get out," Melody said confidently.

Recalling her brother, Sully, Melody added smugly, "You think the world is that simple? The Hacker family isn't someone you can afford to mess with."

Elara had no interest in hearing how powerful the Hacker family was. She turned to leave, but Melody grabbed her sleeve.

"Who said you could leave? I'm not finished talking!" Melody snapped.

Seeing Melody clutching her clothes, Elara didn't get angry. Instead, she calmly pulled out her phone and snapped a photo of her.

"What are you doing?" Melody demanded, glaring at her.

Elara remained unfazed. "Documenting evidence. Your son probably isn't getting out, but I'll make sure you join him in prison so you can keep each other company." "You..." Melody's voice faltered as she let go in a panic.

Trying to regain her composure, she hissed. "Don't think you can scare me with your threats. Once my son's out, you get away with this!"

won't

Elara aimed her camera at Melody again. "Go ahead. I'm listening and recording. I'd love to hear just how untouchable the Hacker family thinks it is."

Melody realized Elara wasn't going to back down. Frustrated, she lunged forward, aiming to grab the phone, but Elara sidestepped easily.

"Stop her!" Melody ordered her bodyguards.

Before they could act, someone walked up and grabbed Melody's wrist, stopping her in her tracks. Startled, Melody looked up and instantly recognized the man-Sully. Relief flooded her face as she turned to him.

"Sully! Finally, you're here. Look at her. She's taking pictures of me!" Melody said.

Sully looked at Melody and said coldly, "That's enough. Go home."

"But she's the one who got Jack locked up! You promised me you'd replace a way to get him out!" Melody protested.

Sully's expression darkened. He turned to the bodyguards and ordered, "Take her back."

The bodyguards glanced at Sully, saw the seriousness on his face, and reluctantly followed his instructions, escorting Melody

away.

Once she was gone, Sully turned to Elara. "Are you okay? Melody can be a bit hot-headed. Don't take it personally." "I'm fine," Elara replied. "Though, to be honest, she seems a little unhinged. You might want to keep an eye on her." Sully's lips twitched slightly, and he said, "You remind me of your mother."

At the mention of her mother, Elara's expression froze for a moment.

Sully continued, "Could we talk for a moment?"

"Sorry, my husband doesn't like me chatting alone with other men," Elara replied smoothly.

Wyatt didn't like him. Lysander didn't think much of him either Elara wasn't interested in getting close to this man.

She had no intention of offending the Hawthorne family. If she was going to live among them, it was best to align herself with their interests.

Sully chuckled at her response. "Elara, you're adorable. But I'm an elder. This is different. I've always been grateful to your

mother.

"Back when Yessenia had her accident, it was your mother who stayed by her side, and the Kensington family who helped settle everything afterward."

At the mention of her mother, Elara said, "That's all in the past. Impressive that you still remember."

"I was close with Harold as well," Sully added.

"So, what are you trying to say?" Elara asked, cutting straight to the point. She knew Sully wouldn't bring this up without an ulterior motive.

Sully's tone shifted. "Now that you're Lysander's wife, what about the proposal I mentioned last time? Has he given it any thought? Does he plan to leave the Hawthorne family?"

Elara had assumed that Sully's silence these past weeks meant the matter had been dropped. She hadn't expected him to still be pursuing it.

"Mr. Myerson," Elara replied, "what happens within the Hawthorne family is none of your business. I suggest you focus on your own affairs. Lysander knows exactly what he's doing when it comes to the Hawthorne family."

"So, you also think Lysander should leave the Hawthorne family?" Sully pressed. "Don't you realize how much your mother and Yessenia sacrificed to free him from their grasp? And now he's back. It's a betrayal of everything they fought for."

His voice grew increasingly agitated as he spoke. Normally a composed man, Sully's demeanor became unsteady whenever Yessenia was mentioned.

Elara observed his outburst silently, her face unreadable.

Sully took off his glasses, wiped the lenses with a cloth, and put them back on. "I'm sorry if I startled you. I didn't mean anything by it. I just want you to think carefully about this."

Elara's voice was calm. "And what if Lysander has no intention of leaving the Hawthorne family?"
