Chapter 198

Sully said, "If he's going to be this disobedient, I can only say I'm deeply disappointed in him. You'd better go back and talk some sense into him. For Yessenia's sake, I'm still willing to give him another chance" "What? You..." Elara was at a loss for words. He was talking as if he and Lysander were close, when in reality, Lysander couldn't care less about him.

Sully added, "I'll head out now. I don't want to disturb you." With that, he turned and left without waiting for a response. Watching his retreating figure, Elara frowned.

In the restaurant, Natalie, hearing Elara's account, said, "He's way too nosy. What does this have to do with him? Honestly, I think he's just jealous." "Jealous?" Elara echoed, raising an eyebrow.

"Jealous that Wyatt has a son. Some people are like that they're miserable themselves and can't stand to see others happy. Seriously, let's be real.

"Lysander is his biological father after all. And the Hawthorne family is so well off. Lysander would have to be crazy to walk away from the Hawthorne family." Hearing Natalie's words, Elara chuckled.

Natalie continued, "Am I wrong? Sure, it's harsh, but it's the truth. How could his life possibly be better after leaving the Hawthorne family? Why would anyone put themselves through that kind of trouble?" Elara nodded. "Okay."

"By the way," Natalie added, "I've been meaning to tell you. Jack's announcement is out."

"What announcement?" Elara asked.

"Check Twitter," Natalie said. "He's been arrested. The police released some of the details of his crimes. "Elara unlocked her phone and glanced at Twitter. Sure enough, the comments section was buzzing.

Previously, Emily had been mercilessly harassed online, with no one believing that Jack could be guilty of such things. But now, with conclusive evidence from the police, the tide had turned.

Those who had criticized Emily so harshly were now awkwardly silent, with no one stepping forward to apologize.

Natalie said, "Poor Emily. If not for this, she might've been wrongly accused until the day she died. But honestly, those internet trolls are the worst.

"They were so vicious before, and now that the truth's out, hardly anyone has the decency to apologize. If you ask me, the people who blindly followed the mob are worse than Jack himself. They should all be rounded up and thrown in jail." Natalie vented for a while before Elara's phone started ringing. She answered. It was Emily, asking if she could come over to see her. Elara told her to come by.

When Emily arrived, she seemed a little nervous. "Hi, Ms. Kensington," she greeted softly.

Elara gestured for her to sit. "Take a seat."

Emily walked over and sat down, glancing hesitantly at Natalie.

Chapter 198

Natalie met her gaze with a kind expression. "Go ahead and sit," he said gently. Natalie's warm demeanor seemed to put Emily at ease. Turning to Elara, Emily said, "I came to thank you."

Elara raised an eyebrow. "Thank me? For what? I didn't do anything."

The court had informed Emily that Jack's case would be reopened due to new evidence, which meant the trial would take more time.

However, the police, aware of the public pressure Emily had been facing, had gone ahead and released details of Jack's heinous behavior online.

Emily said, "Either way, I'm really grateful. If it weren't for you, don't know how I would've gotten through this. Everyone else was attacking me, but you were the only one who believed in me."

Hearing her words, Elara gave a helpless smile. "What do you want to eat? It's on me."

"No, let me treat you," Emily insisted. "I owe you."

Elara didn't stop Emily from leaving. After they finished their meal, she stayed to chat with her for a while.

Although the situation was technically resolved, Emily was still under tremendous pressure.

What Jack had done to her was an immense misfortune, and it was unclear how the outside world would perceive her moving forward.

Elara said, "Don't dwell on it too much. You didn't do anything wrong. Emily, maybe it feels overwhelming now, but in a few years, you'll realize that to most people, these things are normal and quickly forgotten." Public perception changes rapidly. The more people go online, the more diverse opinions become.

Emily looked at Elara. "Do you really think so?"

"Of course," Elara replied. "One day, when you've recovered, youll see that compared to losing your life, most things are trivial. Staying alive is what truly matters."

Standing nearby, Natalie listened as Elara delivered her words of wisdom. She couldn't help but think Elara sounded surprisingly profound, almost as if she'd experienced more than anyone could imagine. Growing up sheltered and well-off under her father's protection, with maybe some drama involving Asher, she shouldn't have had such a hardened perspective. Natalie found herself taken aback.

By the time Emily left, she seemed in much better spirits. Elara walked her to the door before returning inside.

"She seems a lot better," Natalie said as she settled onto the couch.

Elara nodded. "Yeah. It's good she's figured things out. I just worry about her taking those harsh comments to heart and doing something rash."

Natalie smirked and glanced at her. "Elara, did something traumatic happen to you before?"

"What?" Elara looked at her, puzzled.

"It's just... the way you were comforting Emily earlier. Those aren't things I'd expect you to say. It's like you've been through some heavy stuff," Natalie remarked.

Elara pulled Natalie to sit down beside her. "Well, if you must know, I actually time-traveled once. Then I came back to life."

Natalie burst out laughingStop joking! Did Lysander bully you? Honestly, I've always wondered if he secretly mistreats you at home."

Elara was stunned for a moment. Seeing that Natalie wasn't taking her seriously, Elara decided to let it go, brushing it off as just a joke.

Later that evening, Lysander arrived while Elara was napping of the couch. Natalie was busy hosting guests, and Elara had decided to rest in the lounge.

When Lysander wasn't around, Elara didn't bother going home and found it quite comfortable to hang out at Natalie's place. Natalie noticed Lysander as he entered and gave him a quick heads-up. Lysander walked into the room and spotted Elara lying on the couch. Her jacket was draped over her, but her legs were uncovered, stretched out in the open. She looked beautiful while she slept. He couldn't help but think, 'So this is what Sleeping Beauty must look like.

Since marrying Elara, Lysander had noticed how much more refined and radiant she had become. By comparison, he felt rough around the edges.

He sat down nearby, and a server brought him a glass of water, placing it on the table. After a while, Elara stirred and opened her eyes, spotting Lysander sitting at the edge of the couch. Rubbing her eyes, she shifted slightly and saw him sipping from the glass in his hand. When he put the glass down, Èlara grabbed his hand.

Lysander glanced at her. "Awake?"

She blinked and asked, "What are you doing here?" Still lying down, she gazed up at him, not moving.

"I came to pick you up," he said. "Why didn't you go home?"

"It's nice here at Natalie's. I was even thinking, that if you didn't come, I'd just stay at her place tonight," she said.

"That's not happening," Natalie chimed in as she walked into the room. "No way could I risk it. He would probably skin me alive!"
