Alpha Adryan
forty nine

It was dark outside by the time she woke up, her eyes went to the alarmclock placed beside her bed.

3.03 am. it read.

She looked around her bed and discovered that Adonis was not in thetoddler bed that Adryan had purchased for him a while ago; it wasspiderman themed, which Adonis enjoyed, and he didn't make a fuss tosleep with her on her bed. She wasn't worried about his suddendisappearance, for the scent of vanilla lingered in the room like ablanket gave her an idea about his whereabouts.

Jade moved the comforter aside as she got up, putting her feet on thechilly ground, which helped a little in waking her up from her sleep-induced state. She'd woken up in the infirmary a few hours before, andthe pack doctor had given his approval for her to return to the house. On the way, Jade couldn't help but notice how some pack memberslooked at Arther with suspicion, and some were even hostile, perhapsbecause he was still a rogue and carried the scent with him, andAdryan's pack wasn't kind to rogues. Regardless of their actions, Artherdid an excellent job of ignoring them.

When she asked Arther where he was staying, he had told her thatAdryan had arranged a room for him in the packhouse, which cameacross as a surprise to her since she was half expecting Adryan to kickArther out while she was unconscious. Adrian's mind was like a Jenga;whenever she thought she had him figured out and understood how heworked around situations, he seemed to stun her, collapsing what shehad spent time figuring, out in seconds.

Opening the door to her room, she climbs down the stairs following thescent of vanilla, her feet stop before a door that was left ajar, lightstreaming out through the crack, she realizes that it was Adryan's office, where his scent seemed to be more dominant. Peeking inside, the sightshe was met with brought a smile to her face.

Adonis was sitting on Adryan’s lap, who seemed to be working onsomething sitting on his office chair behind the desk, typing away onhis laptop, Adonis held a circular paperweight in his small hands, whichseemed to have his attention.

She didn't know how long she stood there, but Adryan's voice startledher.

"What are you doing up?" his deep voice rings out, Jade curses underher breath, she thought she was being sneaky by hiding her scent, notwanting to ruin the moment but it seems like Adryan had a talent forsniffing her out even when she tries to hide her scent.

Realizing that she couldn't just stand there all day, she pushes open thedoor, Adryan was still typing away, his glasses placed on the bridge ofhis nose.

"I slept through most of the day," she says, upon hearing her voiceAdonis’ head turns towards her direction. He smiles upon seeing herwhich she returns and then goes back to marveling at the object in hishands.

"How did you know I was standing outside the door?" she asks, hercuriosity getting her best.

"You didn't do a good job at hiding your scent besides I could feel yourpresence.” He tells her, for a moment he stops typing away on hislaptop, turns to stare at her for a few fleeting moments, and turns backaround to continue his work.

As Jade stood there watching him work, she realized that she had neverseen Adryan sleep at night; most days she would replace the light in hisoffice turned on and him behind the desk working just like he wasdoing right now; she wondered if he had trouble sleeping at night or ifhe was an insomniac...but that wouldn't be the case since she had seenhim take small naps throughout the day.

"Did you want something?" he asks her when she stands there, unmoving just staring at him working.

His question reverts her back to what Arther had told her earlier on inthe day. She had been curious about it ever since..before she wouldn'thave asked him the question but now since he was actually asking her,she thought she might as well as him.

"Why did you let Arther stay at the pack house?" her question halts hisactions, he turns to stare at her, his ocean eyes running over her face, taking them in.

"Isn't that what you wanted?" he asks him, she didn't fail to notice thathe had answered her question with a question.

Her mind wanders back to what Arther had said earlier in the day. She'dbeen wondering about it ever since...she wouldn't have asked him thequestion if he hadn't presented her with an opportunity himself, butnow that he had, she figured she may as well.

"What did you let Arther stay at the pack house?" His actions come to ahalt as she asks a question, and he turns to stare at her, his ocean eyesraking over her face, taking it all in.

"Isn't that what you wanted?" he asked back, she couldn't help butnotice that he had replied to her question with another one.

"Yes, but I thought you didn't want him anywhere near the packgrounds..." she says with her brows furrowed in question.

"Does it matter what I want?!" yet again he answers her back with aquestion, to which she didn't have a reply. She also wanted to ask himwhy he hadn't visited her while she was at the pack infirmary, but shealso didn't want to ask him that, since it would make him realize thatshe actually missed his presence so she kept it to herself.

Jade clears her throat, her green eyes wandering around the room,"Uhh, goodnight then” she says awkwardly, still feeling his intense stareburning through the side of her face.

"Jade" he calls out before she could completely step out of the room. She turns back to face him to see that he was still staring at her.

"Yes?" she replies back.

"Next time be careful when you use your powers around the packmembers., he says, his words causing her heart to jump, beatingerratically inside her chest cavity. She gulps.
