Alpha Luke and His Unwilling Mate -
Chapter 22
~Luke~
When dad said he could smell a woman on me, I knew for sure it was her and not just a dream. My spitfire of a mate actually kissed me and held onto me when she thought I wouldn’t know.
My mouth twitched into a grin, thinking about how heavenly those k****s felt. Meanwhile, my dad was grilling me like I was some captive in the dungeons. He was pushing my patience to the farthest limit.
To make it worse, my mind was wandering off, and I even thought I caught a whiff of rain and raspberries. It was growing stronger by the minute until Nyla stopped about two feet away from the conference room entrance.
What the hell was she thinking? She would have been in so much trouble if someone had caught her sneaking into my room at night. My dad may not be the Alpha of the pack any longer, but he was still Alpha with a stronger sense of smell than Ryder and the others.
If not for being swamped with work in my absence, I’m sure he would have traced the scent to her room and gotten rid of her while I was still out. If Ryder had watched her sneak in, he would have blamed her for trying to harm me.
She was definitely acting like Rex, on an impulse, by throwing all caution out of the window.
I barely saw her for a split second without catching my dad’s eye. Unable to focus on his words anymore, now that I caught a glimpse of her, I exploded at my dad to make him stop.
Her sweet fragrance led me to the dining area where Rachel was waiting for her to eat lunch with. I stood far enough for my sister to not catch my scent and watched Nyla. Rex was ecstatic and crying out mate so many times as if he was seeing her for the first time.
Dressed in a cute peach blouse with a ruffled front and sleeves, she looked like the azaleas that were blooming in the front garden. So colorful and chirpy. Those skinny fit black jeans hugged her toned legs really well. She had probably been training a little too hard to destress.
I heard Rachel come running towards me and jump up for a hug. Oblivious to my own self, I had apparently walked into the room while watching Nyla. I looked at her once more to meet her eyes, and that’s it! I knew this would happen.
Dad was right… this woman was my kryptonite! Finn died because of this mate bond. The fluttering in my stomach was pathetic. I found my willpower dissolving like sugar in hot water and couldn’t help taking it out on her.
If only she hadn’t looked so hurt when I asked her to leave. Knowing how feisty she was, I thought she would get mad and storm out.
I should confine her to her room and not visit her at all. Rachel and I needed to talk about this close friendship with a stranger and put some brakes on it as well.
Watching my mate’s tear-streaked face, Rex started talking like I killed Wyatt and he played no part in it. I wish there was a switch to just turn him off when I didn’t need him.
‘You broke her by killing her true mate. At least stop being the reason for more tears. You surely don’t deserve her.’
I didn’t know what Rachel was talking about “…so it’s okay. We can go when you feel completely better.”
Ah, yes! A muscle car for this little hamster.
I linked Ren to make sure Nyla’s scent was cleaned off the stairs and hallways.
‘Stop being so paranoid. Your dad already thinks it’s one of the women you f****d in the past. You know he never walks by that hallway leading to the balcony. We chose that location for a reason.’
I ignored him and continued talking to Ren.
“Make sure she stays with her baby in her room for a few days. No trips to the wet nurse either. I’ll tell Eric the same.”
I then linked one of her bodyguards and he told me she wasn’t in her room.
“Didn’t I ask you to take her straight to her room? Whose instructions should you be following?”
“Yours, Alpha, I’m sorry. She was in her room for a minute and then wanted to wait by your study to talk to you.”
What was up with Ren and now Eric? These two seemed to listen to Nyla instead of following their Alpha’s orders.
Even Rachel was so upset when I told her to stop hanging out with Nyla. She was all defensive of her and scolded me for hurting her. My little sister always took my side until very recently. She was close to Leah too, but not so much.
I stopped in my tracks when I could sense my new Gamma Travis’s presence, along with Nyla and Eric’s scents. My brow furrowed when Nyla’s voice became clearer. She wanted to know if my pack’s third in command was related to Ryder. What for?
Travis and Eric sensed my presence, and their bodies stiffened. Nyla then noticed me glaring at her and she glared right back. Walking close to Travis, she placed a hand on his shoulder and continued her conversation like I didn’t exist.
Rex took over and using his speed, I grabbed hold of Travis and pinned him to the wall.
“Al… Alph…” He was choking, and I knew he would die if I didn’t let him go.
“Didn’t Ryder tell you my mistress is off limits?”
F*****g Rex will get Nyla killed for sure. Everyone knew I never had a mistress before because I wasn’t possessive about whoever I f****d. She walked over as if she was super innocent and placed a hand on my arm.
“Alpha, please. It’s not his fault.”
I guess no one had exploited the mate bond better than her. She obviously knew the only reason she and her friend were alive was this bond. And now, she was using it to provoke me while knowing full well how much of a struggle it was for me to stay away from her.
Rex calmed down and let Travis go, but I was still pissed at her. What the f**k did she want? She pushed me away every single time I touched her and was now touching another man to just test my limits.
Travis found his voice after coughing a bit and gasping for air.
“I didn’t touch her. She j-just wanted to know h-how I was…”
He was Ryder’s younger brother. This wasn’t the first time I almost choked him to death. If Rachel hadn’t stopped me last year, he would have already been dead for pushing her around.
I knew it wasn’t his fault this time. But Rex would obviously not get mad at Nyla even if she puts a knife through his heart. It’s always my fault, and he’s now taking it out on my poor gamma.
‘Mate is mad at us. K**s her until she forgets what happened just now.’
He was purring in my head, still feeling stoked Nyla would want his attention. No matter what she did, he would like to think it was for him. She burst his bubble just then.
“Yeah, he didn’t touch me. I did… because I wanted to.” If she was pissed, I was furious.
I let out a growl, balling my fists and struggling with the urge to kill Travis.
“Leave!!”
Sending him away before I actually acted on the instinct, I clutched her arm and steered her into my empty study room. She wanted me to lose control, and I did just that, no matter how hard I tried not to.
Her whimper stung my heart as she winced when I pushed her against the wall. It was Rex who reminded me this time we were supposed to stay mad at her. He wanted me to mark her right about now so she would never dare to tell me about wanting to touch someone else.
“Let me go!”
“You’ve got to be kidding me! What did you want to achieve by provoking me?”
“I have no f*****g clue.” She tried to push me away and reach for the door.
“Oh, you want to run now?”
I caught her wrists and pinned them up against the wall. F**k! Tying those wrists to my headboard and barreling into her uncontrollably was all I could think of. I smashed my lips to hers and kissed her hard.
Sparks ran through my veins at the mere touch of her palms against my chest. She tried to resist my k****s as usual but did something more besides using all of her strength to push me away.
She bit my lips. Hard. The room got too damn hot suddenly.
Closing my fist tightly around her hair, I tugged at it to pull her head back and expose her neck. She shivered at the touch of my nose against her skin. Breathing in deeply to take in as much of her scent, I licked the marking spot and didn’t want to stop.
“St-stoooop!” I could feel her fingernails dig into my shirt while her eyes were flitted close.
She wrapped her arms around me and almost kissed me. Her hooded eyes snapped open and looked at me as if she wanted to get away with it in case I hadn’t paid attention.
“It’s all right. There’s no need to hold back. I want them wet k****s on my chest when I’m fully awake.”
The look on her face was so adorable while it turned a sexy shade of pink. I pulled her into me and took her mouth again.
I loved kissing her of course, but this one tasted insanely good. It was because she reciprocated, very hesitantly, she twined her tongue with mine, driving me ecstatic. I deepened the k**s while hooking my arm around her waist and picking her up.
Placing her on my desk, I cupped her a*s cheeks and pulled her against my fully erect c**k. She m****d at the contact and wrapped her legs around me.
“You have no idea what you do to me.” I g*****d and held my breath as she lowered her mouth to trail a string of k****s down my neck.
“Alpha, your fake mistress isn’t in her room.”
The panic filled mind link from Ren ruined the moment for good. I slowly unwound my hand from around Nyla’s hair as I came back to my senses. I wanted her locked up in her room to stop myself from doing the very same thing I was doing right now.
She looked at me questioningly and unwrapped her arms and legs from around me. Rex literally went into intense pain.
“I don’t want our first time to be where I f****d countless pack sluts.”
I could see she was disgusted by me but still wanted to confirm if she heard me right.
“Yep, I don’t like them in my room. So this is where I bend them over to f**k them from behind.”
“You are a sleazebag! And calling a woman you sleep with a slut makes you a bigger manwhore! Why ask me about the mating ceremony with Adalyn when you were f*****g others anyway.”
“Because only s*x with the chosen mate would cause you pain.”
She landed a hard slap on my face and disappeared the next instant with Eric. I didn’t see her after pushing away. And I hadn’t slept for three days straight.
After a long run, I walked back out of the muddy forest in my wolf form when I saw Nyla standing by the balcony with a lost look on her face and watching it drizzle. Rex howled in pain at the sight of his mate.
Her eyes fell on him instantly. It was still dark out, but her night vision was impeccable. She watched Rex in awe, and those eyes glowed for me. It sent strange tingles of arousal through my body.
The light shone so brightly in response to my wolf’s darkened eyes, I was sure for a moment she wasn’t human.
‘Definitely not a human.’ Rex insisted.
