Alpha Luke and His Unwilling Mate -
Chapter 9
~Nyla~
My breath hitched, and I closed my eyes, not wanting to get affected by his proximity. Electricity surged through my body when I felt his wolf’s rough tongue lick my neck. So he was mad about the finger marks left by that lusty man.
My eyes remained shut, enjoying the feel of his fur against my thighs and the soothing way he ran his tongue over my skin. I thought I could feel him apologize to me for not coming to my rescue any earlier.
He stopped suddenly when he realized I could sense his thoughts. If I was a human, I obviously shouldn’t know what my mate was thinking. But I knew everything Wyatt was thinking when he touched me.
My kind mostly lived in their own world and we didn’t have this mate concept. Occasionally, the Moon Goddess blesses us with a mate. In my case, two mates. When we are chosen to spend our life as a werewolf’s mate, we get to keep a moonstone that lets us remain in human form.
I have to rejuvenate the pendant’s energy every full moon night. Losing the moonstone will lead to severe withdrawal symptoms and we must return home or feed on fresh werewolf b***d.
I also become dangerous to everyone around me if I choose to. Werewolves, vampires, humans… many creatures are all weaker than me about once a month.
Wyatt was aware of all this and envied my ability; he said he rather choose to know what his mate was thinking than having a stronger sense of smell or hearing. He also wasn’t sure if telling who I was would be a good idea, making everyone in the pack know I could kill them if I wanted to.
I have never misused my powers ever since I met Wyatt. His home and his people were my people, and I couldn’t imagine bringing any harm to them.
But this was not Wyatt. This was the murderer and the ruthless alpha who put an abrupt end to my happily ever after.
I pushed Luke’s wolf away and got up to leave without looking back at him. He had already asked someone to bring a change of clothes or something before I walk back inside in a tattered top. Woman 1 from the chopper appeared with a long floral wrap which she draped around me.
“Wait! Where are we going?” I asked her. Luke’s wolf was already gone once we stepped indoors.
“You won’t be staying in the servant quarters anymore. The Alpha has asked me to arrange a room for you.”
“Do you know why Sadie is so hostile towards me? She’s fine with Olivia’s existence but wants me to suffer. What have I ever done to her? Has my former pack ever wronged her?”
“You are one lucky woman, Riley. You have the Alpha’s protection. The slaves in those servant quarters were all abused by one man or the other. They had a horrible first few days or weeks while you seemed to be at peace scrubbing the floors. You gained their envy instead of sympathy.”
“These numbskulls target another one of their kind then, just to see everyone miserable and wallowing in self pity? If they really have resentments, they should plot against the men who wronged them.”
“Everyone handles tragedy and trauma differently. Some stop thinking rationally, and inflicting pain on others becomes their only goal.”
I felt called out. This woman appeared to be in her early thirties but with too much wisdom I didn’t need. Inflicting pain on someone who started it first is wrong? Hell no!
She took me to a different building with grand marble staircases and beautiful wallpapers and decorations all over. I saw a familiar face climbing down the stairs. He was the man who took Maya down before Luke asked him to stop from killing her. He must be really strong if he managed to defeat her.
“Eyes down you f*****g slave!”
My list of people who will die was growing longer. I needed to know who he was. Luke only had an older brother who died. So this must be some high ranking a*****e.
“Beta Ryder…” Woman 1 bowed her head in shame as if it was her fault. I still glared at him.
“Has he f****d her already? Where did this bitch get the audacity to glare at me?”
F****d me?
“Where the hell are you taking me?” I held the woman’s wrist to stop her from climbing the stairs. “I will not be his mistress or some s*x toy.”
“It is not up to you to decide that. I’ll definitely take a turn when he’s done with you.” The nasty man licked his lips. “Not sure how long I have to wait because the Alpha seems to have grown a soft corner for you since the day he saw you. Should have killed you and that sexy friend of yours after we were done ravaging you.”
You will never get your turn. You will die before that. Four more days for you to live. I couldn’t lower my gaze even when he stared me down to submit.
“You will stay on the Alpha’s floor. Let’s go.” Woman 1 made another humble gesture towards the nasty beta, and he allowed us to leave.
“Do you know where my baby is?” She already told me last week she had no idea. But I won’t stop asking her every day if I saw her that often.
“I don’t know. You should ask the Alpha but don’t get your hopes high.”
“Which one is his room?”
“Down the corridor to your left.” She unlocked a door to a spacious room.
I was going to marvel at the tastefully decorated parlor area and the four poster bed but something on the door caught my attention. A small X mark inside a circle. It was present on every door and did not go well with the fancy carvings on the expensive dark wood.
“It means the powers of no other paranormal creatures are allowed. The buildings are all enchanted and the Alpha will know when an intruder uses their magic.”
Ooh! Good to know.
“What about the estate grounds? Are those enchanted too?”
“You mean the land under the open skies? No. It’s not possible to control those.”
Okay, good. Works for me! So don’t use magic to lure people outside but wait for them to come out at some point on the full moon night. Difficult but not entirely impossible.
“You can ring this bell if you need any service. I will send lunch over in a few minutes or whenever you feel hungry.”
“Thank you. In an hour or so. May I know your name, please?”
“Florence. You can call me Ren.”
I walked over to Luke’s room a couple of times to see if he was around. He could at least tell me if my baby was in the same building, or he left her somewhere in Wyatt’s place.
I took a long bath to calm my nerves and heard a knock on the door while I was still wondering about how and when all these clothes in the closet were arranged. They were all my size and not boring colors either.
Still wrapped in a bathrobe and feeling weird about wearing someone else’s clothes, I opened the door for Ren to bring the lunch in.
“Am I really his mistress now? Did he buy them all for me?” I pointed to the walk-in closet filled with clothes for all occasions, dozens of pairs of shoes, handbags, and everything I owned in the palace.
“The Alpha has already chosen a mate. The ceremony will be in four days. He is not looking for a mistress. He never had one.”
“Okay. Thank you for the food.”
I have been fed a lot of nutritious food even when I was scrubbing the floors. The cook was very kind to me and said I should be eating a lot of whole grains and lean meat as a new mother. In the hopes of meeting my little one and feeding her my milk, I happily ate as much but there was no sign of milk or the baby.
I went down the hallway a few more times but there was no sign of Luke either. He was probably busy murdering more packs and bringing in more captives.
I opened the laptop on the study desk to keep myself busy until he was back. Around 6 PM, I went over to the balcony to watch the sun go down over the ocean. While I looked below to see how difficult it would be to escape from here and walk to the beach if I wanted to, I felt someone’s eyes on my back.
It must be him. I walked to his room and heard a response finally when I knocked on the door.
