Ares POV

"How on earth could they share the same blood?"

I thought as my face connected with the ground for what must have been the twentieth time since I had been brought here this morning.

I gritted my teeth as anger seeped through my veins, the scorching sun blazing down on me, beads of sweat dripping down the sides of my face. My entire body throbbing with a pain I was certain would last me a lifetime.

"Get up!" I heard him shout, fueling my already boiling rage as I laid flat on my stomach.

I forced myself onto my knees as I let out a shaky breath and looked down at the material that covered my chest, now containing a hole through it, exposing my pale skin burnt due to the impact of the fire-bolt that had been thrown at me just seconds ago.

"I said get up and fight back!" He screamed yet again in the annoyingly loud pitched voice that actually ran in my ears.

"Kind of difficult to fight back when you're fucking using magic bolts" I spat and grunted as I stood up and watched him pinch the bridge of his nose before turned his gaze toward a smirking Kronar who had been sitting on a wooden plank placed beneath a tree.

"I really cannot work with him! This piece of shit is so stubborn he makes a damn donkey look obedient!" He said as he glared at me before he turned back to Kronar who seemed amused with the whole situation.

"He thinks he's all that just because he's supposedly blessed with god powers which if you ask me is complete bullshit!" Zenair uttered as he raked me with a gaze that told me he was less than pleased to look at me to which I scoffed and rolled my eyes at him.

"You're not the only one who thinks this bullshit is pointless." I replied and watched him throw his hands into the air as if he was just about fed up with me already and somehow that made me smirk at him which infuriated him further.

"Can you see what I mean!" He said in that annoying voice toward Kronar who just sat there with that infuriating smile on his face.

He raised an extremely red apple to his lips and bit into it, a crispy sound emanating from it as he maintained eye contact with me while he chewed.

I looked back at him, suddenly feeling self conscious with the way he was looking at me. It had been about a week since I had spent that night with Fortis and since I had been undergoing this pointless training which always ended up with me feeling like I had been rode over by a damn horse and left for dead. Though my nights spent with Fortis completely rid me of all the shit I went through during the day.

During that time, Kronar had stopped his advancements towards me which left me wary at first until I had seen his behavior around Zenair, the foul mouthed , short tempered elf prisoner of war who had been placed in charge of teaching me how to wield my magic.

I noticed that Kronar was different around him in a way that left me dumbfounded. He wasn't that sadistic horny fuckhead he usually was and for some odd and weird reason, he became more tolerable. Though I still had the undying urge to rip his insides out. But around Zenair, he was quiet and wouldn't look at him in the eye as he would everyone else, nor was he a complete asshole around him, if anything ,he seemed sort of..

Weary

What still enraged me though, was the fact that he along with a few others, still made sure to make Fortis' life a living hell at every chance they got. If they were weren't throwing all those awful names in his face, then they would spit at him or use every excuse in the book to beat him up for whatever reason, to the point where I was not even sure what pissed me off more.

The fact that those fuckers got away with it, or the fact that he had become so accustomed to it that it no longer bothered him..

On numerous occasions I would ask him why he didn't do anything about as he was clearly capable of ripping them apart, and each time he would say the same thing.

"You're here now. What they do to me doesn't. Never has. "

I knew it hurt him. How could it not? When the people who were supposed to be your so called family, treated you like the scum of the earth. It was something so difficult for me to understand. I had never experienced something like it before. My family was always there, even when I didn't appreciate it or see it, they were there.

I tried my best to hold in my fury as I looked at Kronar, taking one last bite of his apple before he tossed it aside and stood up, walking towards me. He nodded at Zenair who actually beamed for the first time today before he raked me with one last glare that told me he'd rather have my head beneath his foot and turned to leave. I turned my gaze and looked ahead as Kronar stared at me with his black orbs fixed on me the entire time.

"How long do you plan to keep this up?" He asked causing me to raise my eyebrow while he scoffed.

"You've been beaten up, starved, chained and still you remain a stubborn shithead. What will it take for you to just give in?" He asked making me narrow my eyes at him.

What would it take for these asshole to understand that I literally did not know how to unlock my powers!!

It was something that my parents had been battling with since I reached the age of three and could not summon the creatures of nature like my people at that age, normal could.

"Listen you fuckhead, I have no idea why my powers are locked, or if they're even there to begin with." I replied, my nostrils flaring with anger as I locked gazes with his.

He smirked back at me, which only infuriated me further. It was as though he was openly mocking me and there wasn't a thing I could do about it!

In a swift movement, he appeared in front of me, knocking me off my balance. I grunted as I felt the back of my head slam against the ground, swearing I felt something inside my head crack as I stared up at the sky above me. I listened to him walk around and bend down at the side of my head, smirking as he flicked my forehead.

"If you don't want anything worse to happen, I'd suggest you drop this act and get your shit together. My father is only patient for so long and I happen to like being the one to beat you up so quit it." He said causing me to smirk at him this time.

"Is that your way of saying you like me? Hate to break it to you but I'm taken." I replied and watching him roll his eyes as he got up and walked off, leaving me there on the ground breathing heavily.

I laid there, listening to the sounds around me attentively. I sighed as I stretched my hands out and dug them into the soft ground beneath me, letting out my breath as I closed my eyes and felt that familiar vibration of life around me. All the different sounds of nature blending together to form one harmonious hum, warming up my very soul.

I smiled faintly as I felt the bones in my body crack and begin to heal themselves . The fresh cuts and bruises burning as my muscles stretched out and healed as well. I laid there on the ground until my body was fully healed.

The feeling so unbelievable, as I could never heal myself before. I always had numerous healers to do it for me. And yet, it was like my mind and body knew exactly what to do.

Maybe this place was really unlocking my powers somehow?
