Chapter 28

Rachel put down her chopsticks and replied sweetly, “Grandma, I’m actually staying with mygrandfather.”

“I see,” Old Mrs. Jones said. There was a look of understanding on her face, but a trace of regret couldbe seen in the depths of her eyes.

Before this, Old Mrs. Jones thought that she could have David and Rachel live under the same roof. She hadn’t expected Rachel to be staying with her grandfather.

When the dinner was over, David brought Eddie to the study to take care of some work affairs. After thematters had been dealt with and they left the study, they walked out into the living room and weregreeted by a heartwarming sight.

Rachel was sitting right beside Old Mrs. Jones and chatting with her. The warm light in the living roomilluminated her beautiful face, highlighting her sweet smile as she listened patiently to Old Mrs. Jones.

At that moment, David finally understood what home felt like.

“David,” said Old Mrs. Jones when she caught sight of David, who was in a daze at the staircase. Shebeckoned him over with a wave. “Since you’re done with work, you should go for a walk with Rachel.I’m tired, and I’m going to rest.”

“Alright,” David said. Then, he looked at Rachel as though he wanted her permission.

Rachel stood up. With a small smile, she said, “Grandma, please rest well.”

A wide smile grew on Old Mrs. Jones’s face as she watched the young couple leave together. Then, asif she was reminded of something, she heaved a long sigh. “I hope that rascal knows what he’s doing

and succeeds in making Rachel fall for him,” she muttered to herself.

“Don’t worry,” Rosie said beside her. On the other hand, she felt that Old Mrs. Jones was worryingabout nothing. Rosie looked at the disappearing back views of the well–matched couple. Smiling, shesaid, “Mr. Jones is an outstanding man. How could Miss Grey not fall for him?”

Upon hearing this, Old Mrs. Jones raised her eyebrows. With an intriguing smile, she said, “Do youthink Rachel is any inferior compared to him?”

From Rachel’s every word and action, it was obvious that she had been well–raised. Her mannerismsalso showed how she treated the people around her.

These were qualities that could only be learned over a long time. They could not possibly have beendeveloped within a short period.

Judging from her years of experience, Old Mrs. Jones believed Rachel was an extraordinary girl.

She knew David would have to put in a lot of effort to win Rachel’s heart. It would not be an easyjourney at all.

It was still drizzling sporadically. Rachel reached out and felt the raindrops with her palms.

David stood beside her with one hand in his pocket. His thin lips slightly curled up while admiring herdelicate face. “Would you like to come with me to the tea room?”

Rachel looked at him and was caught off guard by his mesmerizing eyes. She felt like she waschoking.

She curled her fingertips and exhaled lightly. After trying her best to calm her pounding heart, shesmiled and said, “Okay.”

The tea room was located in the West Wing. It was an exquisite and elegant place.

The arched shelf divided the tea room into two areas, the inner and outer zone. A bronze incenseburner was placed on the table in the outer zone, and the smell of incense smoke complemented theresidual tea fragrance in the air.

Rachel looked around her surroundings. She noticed a painting on the wall, and her eyes sparkled.

That painting was titled “Spring Clouds and Morning Haze“. It was painted by the famous LeonardDeAngelo, and it had been bought anonymously by someone at the Fujiby auction.

The people invited to the Fujiby auction all had a net worth of at least 40 million dollars.

For someone to participate in the auction anonymously, they must have been at least a mid–tiermember for three years and had a net worth of more than 200 million dollars.
