Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David) -
Chapter 57
Chapter 57
The moment that sentence passed his lips, an eerie silence spread in the car.
Eddie Brook regretted what he said so much that he wanted to slap himself. Instead, he tentativelywatched David Jones’s expressions, then carefully opened his mouth. “Miss Grey’s performance wasvery impressive tonight…”
But David’s frown only deepened. Eddie had to quickly think of something to quell David’s anger. SoEddie added, “Only a woman like that is worthy of you, sir.”
Sure enough, David’s gloomy expression disappeared instantly when he heard the second half ofEddie’s comment.
Having narrowly escaped danger, Eddie secretly gave Rachel an even more special place in his heart.Rachel Grey was almost like a savior to him now.
Eddie even started thinking about replaceing an auspicious place at home to worship Miss Grey for howshe saved him.
“You did well tonight.” David’s deep voice was cold as usual.
Eddie paused briefly. He tried to reflect on what he had said that pleased David. Then, after somethought, Eddie’s only reasonable explanation was that Miss Grey was mentioned. Hesitantly, Eddiesqueezed out a response. “We have nothing to do with the video…”
After hearing this, David’s lips curved into a mysterious smile. “That little girl has quite a few secrets…”he said indulgently.
It was already late at night when she returned to Johnson’s Mansion.
Carrying a bouquet of roses in her arms, Rachel returned to her room.
After a shower, Rachel dried her hair with a towel. That was when her phone on the table suddenlywent off.
As soon as Rachel picked up the phone, a lazy voice spoke, “Someone is secretly investigating theJohnson Corporation’s CEO.”
“Are they better than you?” Rachel asked.
“Are you kidding me? My hacking skills are unmatched.”
“Then are you afraid of them?” Rachel asked again.
Her question apparently hit a nerve with Lucas Johnson on the other end of the line, who angrilyroared, “Rachel Grey, you can call me names. You can look down on me. But I won’t allow you tohumiliate me like this!”
As a respected outsourced member of the prestigious Hacker Alliance, Lucas Johnson would not allowanyone to question his hacking expertise!
Rachel Grey smiled playfully. “If that is the case, then what are you worried about?”
Rachel’s retort immediately left Lucas speechless. Then, after a long pause, Lucas spoke again. “I wasthe one who took care of the problems you caused. Is this how you would repay the person who savedyou?”
“Even if you didn’t take care of it, I could have handled it.” Rachel Grey picked up the glass of water onthe table and took a sip to soothe her dry throat. “Besides, I haven’t blamed you for interfering with myplans.”
Lucas coldly snorted. “Forget it. I was just wasting my efforts for an ungrateful person like you!”
“Who is investigating me?” Rachel asked all of a sudden.
“Louis Smith, CEO of the Smith Group,” Lucas said with a malicious sneer.
Rachel was not surprised. But she was pretty sure that Louis wouldn’t be able to replace anything abouther no matter what.
“I don’t think you were blindfolded by love. But what did you see in such a scumbag?” Lucas did nothold back his criticism. “In the past, you deserved better than marrying into the Smith family becausethey were on the verge of bankruptcy. Even though the Smith family is on the rise now, Louis Smith isstill way beneath you. I’m glad that you finally realized how silly you were. Otherwise, I would think thatsomeone has cast a spell on you.”
It was not just Lucas, but everyone close to Rachel had been dumbfounded by her sudden decision tobe with Louis Smith.
Rachel Grey raised her hand and rubbed her forehead. Then, with a tone as icy as a winter stream, she said, “Do you remember that one time when we snuck out of school five years ago?”
“Are you saying…” filled with disbelief, Lucas’s voice suddenly tensed, “that it was Louis Smith whosaved you that night?”
