Betrayed by My Pack – Wolfless Hybrids Escape -
Chapter 60 –
I had left very early this morning to go to the doctor. I didn't want to have to answer a lot of questions about where I was going. I was going to use my personal for payment on this, as I didn't want Paxton to replace out why I had come here. I had been told when I made the appointment that I would be here for a while as they ran some tests. I filled out a lot of paperwork, and I was very glad I was a wolf. I had been sitting here in a hospital gown for an hour now. I knew if I sat here another hour I was going to get cold.
I was nervous about what they were going to say; my cushy life would be over if they gave me bad news. The best-case scenario would be that I was OK and just needed something that would increase my chances of having Paxton's pup. I was willing to do whatever was needed, just to make that happen. I already knew that Paxton didn't want me anymore. I got him drunk last night and still had to give him something extra just to get him to sleep with me. He was resistant to even the thought of it now. It is clear that he doesn't desire me at all anymore, and the worst part is that he was making no effort to hide that fact from me either.I hated to even consider the possibility of our not being able to have a child. If I could just give him a pup, even one, he would still be forced to give me the respect I deserve. I would be his Luna, and no one, not even Cara would be able to take that away from me. I wouldn't be forced to give up my position or ranking to her. Even if she were to come back and bear his children, as long as mine was born first, he would be the Alpha heir.
My mind tells me that I know that is not going to happen, but my heart is totally on board with dreaming about the possibility of it. I will not just give up and roll over. I am not giving up my hard-earned position. I have been by Paxton's side for the last 8 years. Nothing, and no one, is going to get in my way of being the Luna of Kamaria.
I heard someone coming before a knock sounded on my door. "Come in," I called out. This is it. He had a file in his hand, and a nurse followed him into the room.
"Mrs. James?" he asked as he entered the room.
"Yes, Mrs. Paxton James," I answered his request for verification.
"So I see that we did a blood work up, and ran some tests on you. I see here that your period has been erratic for the last three and a half years. Can you tell me what you think caused it? Or was this just a sudden change that happened?" he asked.
I glanced over at the nurse before telling the doctor, "I had an abortion a few years ago, that was when things changed. They said that they had come across a difficulty during my procedure. I was at the two-month mark, but the fetus was advised as being much bigger than they thought it would be. The surgery was long, and there were issues. He had told me to come back after a month or two, but I never went back. It seemed like everything was fine after the surgery. I just assumed my period was affected by the surgery and that it would eventually straighten out, but it never did. My husband and I have not used contraceptives at all in the last three years, but I can't get pregnant. I am worried something may be wrong with me now," I told them.
I can't mention that I am a wolf to them. It is forbidden to discuss it with humans. I was a third of the way through my pregnancy, as it is usually anywhere from five and a half to six months for a regular werewolf pregnancy. The doctors weren't aware of that, not until after the surgery started. It caused them to have to change up in the middle of the surgery as the baby was much larger than they expected. I know that is the main cause of why this happened.
"I will need to do some more investigating on your situation. You're in luck today, as my next appointment was canceled. I am going to have to do a hysteroscopy to see what, if any, damage was caused by your surgery. I have to advise you this procedure, is painful. Do you still want to proceed?" he asked.
"Yes, doctor, I will do anything to be able to carry our child. I am scared that if I am infertile, he will leave me," I honestly answered him.
Whatever needs to be done, I will do it. I can see pity in the nurse's eyes at my words. She feels bad for me, but I don't need her pity. I just need to be able to carry Paxton's child. If not, I know that at worst, we can always get a surrogate to carry a baby. I will provide the egg, and Paxton can fertilize it. I haven't been sleeping well for the last two nights. That was the last ditch effort that I had come up with. I am willing to endure whatever pain I have to, to make sure that Paxton stays with me.
Twenty minutes later he did the procedure. He mentioned that the results won't be in for a few weeks time. That is not good news, as I don't have a lot of time to get this done. I don't know how I know, I just do. It is probably from how callous Paxton was being towards me now. I insisted that he do something else, something with quicker results. Paxton has become ruthless since Cara left, and I am terrified of how everything is changing. I am not on solid footing with Paxton, and I am terrified that he will refuse to try the IVF. If he does, all hope is lost for me. The nurse told me that I could put my underwear back on before the next procedure.
About ten minutes later another person came into my room, rolling a cart. She introduced herself, and then told me that she was going to do the ultrasound for me. The lights had been turned down, for her to see the screen. I just closed my eyes and tried to keep calm, as this was definitely much better than the last procedure. She spent a lot of time looking at everything, especially on my right side, but didn't speak to me. She wiped my stomach clean and told me that she would be sending it off to be reviewed. She told me that I could go ahead and get dressed and that my nurse would be right with me.
The nurse came back to get me about eight minutes later. I felt defeated. I already knew that I was done, even before the results were in. I listened to the nurse telling me to take it easy for a day or two, due to the hysteroscopy. I healed fast, and I knew that I would be fine by tonight. They made an appointment for me to return on Monday afternoon. It was almost one in the afternoon, and I was in no rush to get back to the pack.
I knew that the ultrasound tech already suspected something. She kept going over the area near my right hip. I was told that everything had to be verified before I spoke to the doctor. I left with more anxiety than I had when I got here this morning. This doctor's office specializes in infertility issues, and they have seen it all. I was assured if anyone could help me, it was my doctor. Since I was in town, I decided to go and get my hair done. It had been a while since I had it done. I needed a pick-me-up.
My hair has always been blonde, more on the darker side, but still blonde. I got my hair color from my mother. I decided that I was going to do it differently this time around. I wanted my hair lighter, more like Cara's. Maybe that would get Paxton's attention. I also decided to get it cut like hers, too. When they turned me around towards the mirror, I saw just how desperate I had become. I did look like Cara now. I was just tanner, with a thinner face, and thinner lips. My pale blue eyes were not as vibrant as hers, but I was willing to do anything to attract Paxton's attention. I grabbed a meal while I was here before I headed back home.
I knew I looked different when the gate guards stopped me, before looking at me closely. My new platinum blonde hair was already getting noticed right off the bat. They motioned me through, after stopping me to confirm who I was. I pulled up to the packhouse and hurried up to our apartment. It was three, and I was hoping that Paxton was in our room. I was disappointed to see he wasn't. I decided to take a shower to wash off the day and put a dress on for dinner.
I waited until five to come down. Pack members immediately noticed the changes I made, but no one mentioned Cara's name. They all knew I was less than a fan of hers. Frankly, I couldn't stand her. She had everything handed to her too fucking easy. I held my head higher as I moved across the room to take the seat next to Paxton. I watched as he did a double-take at seeing me. He seemed interested for a moment, and then it was gone. I was only a copy and an unwanted one at that.
I ate dinner in silence, as Clay, Rex, and Paxton spoke to each other. There was nothing else I could do until I got the results. I don't like phasing into my wolf and haven't after the day I got her, at eighteen. She is weak now because I won't let her out, but why in the hell would I want to be out and running around getting dirty? She still heals me. I also have better hearing, eyesight, and strength, but that is all. She has refused to acknowledge or speak to me since she learned that I was not going to phase again.
I was almost willing to phase now, as we hadn't spoken since the abortion. She wanted her pup. She couldn't understand why I didn't want to keep the baby. I told her over and over again that we couldn't keep it. I wouldn't be Luna. That was our last conversation. She was done with me after I went through with it, silent ever since. I know she is giving me the gut feeling. I'm sure she wants me to get bad news. Doesn't she realize that if I fail, she does too?Or does she not even care? I headed back up to our apartment. My parents shocked expressions at my transformation were apparant. They were disappointed in what I had done. Rex almost laughed out loud at me, and Clay scoffed. I am going to speak to Paxton about it tomorrow. I will not allow the disrespect to continue any longer. I am the Luna. They will all have to give me the respect I deserve. I won't be stepping down, no matter what happens.
