Book 1 of Alpha Wolf: Mate Mine -
Chapter 52 ~ Familiar Fangs
Current times. Two days after the date ~ Elena POV
Sunlight filtered through my window when I woke up with a smile plastered on my face, stretching my arms like a lazy cat after a nap. Last night I fell asleep, lulled by the deep voice of my mate over the phone. It was not quite the same as sleeping with him in the same bed, and in fact I tried to convince him to sneak here, but my prayers were ignored, and protests side-tracked. Mirko had proclaimed that the next time we sleep together we would be a real mated couple.
The blunt and unfiltered way in which he had told me how physically impossible was for him to sleep with me keeping his hands to himself, had made me blush so much that I had illuminated the darkness of my room. At that moment, I had been glad that he had not been able to see my pepper face.
Honestly, I was more than ready to complete the mating process, I wanted, no, I needed to bear his mark and mark him myself. Even though I was nervous about my first time, I was sure he would be sweet and attentive as with everything else related to me. Every cell in my body trusted Mirko. I also decided not to dwell on the fact that he was much more experienced in sexual matters.
Besides, I really thought Mirko was as nervous as I was ... and that made it ten times more romantic. When the other day we went to breakfast with Marco and Crucifero, after the two had interrupted our morning intimacy, I could not help but be happy noticing how uncomfortable Mirko looked or how much he blushed every time Marco threw a joke about us. As stupid as it sounded, it just confirmed and further reassured me of his affection for me.
The bitter feeling of Mirko not returning my declaration of love had been like a rose thorn stuck on my heart full of love.
After having breakfast in Marco’s new home, which consisted mainly of Marco babbling, Crucifero smiling at everything he said, hanging from his lips like never before, and Mirko busy most of the time with pack matters, with his warriors calling him by mind link. At some point he had to excuse himself and leave, his intervention was necessary as he was the only one that some wolves inside a certain underground prison obeyed.
So, Mirko and I parted after a magical date and an even more magical night, resulting in me returning home with Marco and Crucifero. But with the promise to see him again today ...
An explosion of butterflies invaded my body thinking about what would happen this evening.
Mirko and I had decided to speak to my parents…about us!!
The Full Moon party in honor of Marco had happened last night and there was nothing else to hold me back. Under his insistence, I agreed to give the news to my parents together with Mirko himself. I wondered if my father had died of a heart attack, tried to cut my partner’s head, or laughed hysterically not believing me.
A sigh escaped my lips as I remembered Marco’s party last night and his official departure from the pack. It caused many tears and strong emotions among all of us. Well, not me, since I would soon be part of the same pack ...
Crucifero had even given him one night alone. A first, considering that he had never left his side since they got back together.
As I moved my feet to stand up, I noticed two things: a foreign perfume and a certain presence.
“Rex!” I exclaimed incredulously, receiving a groan in return. “What are you doing here?” Unwittingly, I trampled on his bulky figure.
My best friend was lying on the floor next to my bed, in his underpants and full of scratches that were regenerating. What I noticed later on, were large quantities of leaves and other elements of the woods, tangled in his hair.
“Please turn off the lights, El” he moaned covering his face with his arm. Letting out a laugh, I jumped on his back, hugging him tightly and receiving a muffled sound. “What happened to you?” I chuckled, hitting his cheeks as you would to a baby.
Surely that was not the first time I had seen Rex in those conditions. I used to die of laughter every time I thought of when he was kicked out of his room by the umpteenth night stand (AN/ THIS STORY IS PART OF THE COLLECTION OF MY MATURE CONTENT AVAILABLE ON PATREON WITH THE VIP TIER. “What happened to me, my noisy friend, will be a secret kept for eternity.”
Not happy with the answer, I pushed a little more just to receive sounds of protests, so I decided to investigate later. I was too distracted to focus on Rex’s life anyway. I would have met Mirko in an hour since he insisted on accompanying me to my aunt Diletta.
Our plan for the day was to visit her in the human city and then return to my pack together to talk to my parents. My aunt, my mother’s sister, lived alone and had never stopped mourning the loss of her daughter, my cousin Marica.
Mirko had met her once before, just by chance. I still smiled at the memory ...
….FLASHBACK
“Aunt!” I exclaimed, hugging her tightly.
After our loving hug and kisses, Aunt Diletta turned her attention to Mirko, with a curious look.
“Oh hello!” She blinked a few times as if to make sure he was real.
“Hello Ms. Rinaldi” Mirko threw one of his breath-taking smiles and offered her his huge hand. I was trying at all costs to hide a smile in front of my aunt’s stunned expression.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Mirko.” He added with charm, casting his spell on my human aunt. Totally unaware of the existence of fantastic creatures such as us.
Mirko was like a God who had decided to join mortals in their mortal world, and nobody could escape his charm. And, while Aunt Diletta had always professed to be faithful to her dead husband, everyone had a pair of eyes to watch and appreciate the opposite sex.
She cleared her throat and replied after some time, probably to regain composure. “Oh, there is no need to call me Mrs Rinaldi, I am Diletta for you.”
“Who is this young gentleman here?” She asked, returning her attention to me.
I had warned her that I would bring someone, without going into too much detail. And since my aunt was used to receiving me with Giulia or other friends of mine, she had not given any weight to it.
Certainly, Diletta would never have expected to be in front of someone like Miko, let alone hear the following statement:
“I’m her boyfriend.” He replied instead of me, as his arm circled around my shoulder.
My aunt gave me such a surprised look, it was almost comical…
…END OF FLASHBACK
Shaking my head, I headed for the bathroom to get ready. I could not help feeling nervous.
My parents would be busy all day apparently, hence I suggested they meet me for dinner because I had to announce something important ....
After finishing my morning business, I found Rex lying on my bed like sausage on a bun.
“Where are you going?” He inquired from under his messy hair.
“To visit my aunt-” “I’m going with you!” He exclaimed, getting up with renewed energy. “But I-” And the werewolf was already outside the door. With a smile, I sat on the chair to wait for him ...

When shortly afterwards, Rex and I were walking on the path through the woods leading to the human city, with my heart bouncing at any noise, waiting for Mirko to appear from behind a bush, or replaceing himself perched on the branch of a tree.
“Why are you so agitated?” He asked me, placing a hand on my shoulder.
“Mirko should have already joined us.” I murmured with anxiety growing with every step I took. It was unusual…plus I felt something was wrong. Terribly wrong.
“Didn’t you agree on a specific meeting point?”
“He said he would replace me…”
And it was at that moment that I smelled his magical smell... An indescribable fear replaced the relief when I smelled his blood in the air.
Something I was not used to. Usually it was the smell of other people’s blood coming off Mirko. Never his own.
I started running, forgetting about Rex. The stench of blood grew more and more together with my mate’s scent.
After passing a corner, I stopped abruptly.
And I almost died…
Mirko was lying on the floor. His face looked peaceful, as if he were taking a nap.
The problem was somewhere else ... There was a wolf slaughtering him.
The beat of Mirko’s heart was too feeble, on the verge of giving up and leaving this cruel world.
I had to save him. I had to protect my partner. My love.
I could hear someone calling my name, but I ignored it. I was ready to launch myself on that wolf. But my legs were planted on the ground and refused to move. In the meantime, my partner’s flesh was cut into pieces by sharp fangs…
Fangs that belonged to an awfully familiar wolf…
It was my father.
