Chapter 22

The ignorant girl in her had fooled herself into believing that she hadn’t expected him to be happy. That he would be there for her and take care of her throughout the pregnancy if she had told him before. Moreover, she had also thought of living happily as a family. Was it all her fault that they couldn’t be happy and fall in love?

No… It was all a fantasy.

She couldn’t risk of hurting her son. She needed to wake up and face the music.

The next Sunday, Alan Jr and Ana were busy building a fort in the living room out of all the blankets in the house. The little boy even helped her make sandwiches and then huddled in their little hideout, eating them with a few pieces of chips. Alan Jr. was only allowed a few pieces a month, and because his grandparents were not home, he could indulge.

Ana watched with satisfaction as Alan’s eyes fluttered shut and his breathing evened out. She made herself a cup of coffee and sat down to start working. About five minutes later, there was a knock at the door. She wasn’t expecting anyone, so she assumed her parents had returned.

But she was wrong.

Ana opened the door to replace a disgruntled Damien. His jaw was clenched and his eyes were cold. Ana raised her brow at him in question.

“Can I help you?”

“We need to talk.” Damien growled.

“We don’t need to do anything. Damien. If you wished to speak to me, I suggest you ask for my opinion first. Otherwise, you can leave. I have a lot to do.”

“What do you need to do on a weekend? Aren’t you living with your parents?”

Ana slammed the door in his face. The arrogant, rich brat had the nerve to tell her that she was living off her parents when she was just trying to keep her family together. It wasn’t her fault he had a strained relationship with his parents.

There was another knock at the door. Ana ignored it until the pounding became unbearable. Finally, Damien started to ring the doorbell. Ana couldn’t let Alan wake up and the last thing she needed was a tired and cranky baby boy on a rampage all day.

Anastasia threw the door open. “What?” she hissed.

“Miss Reid, May I please speak to you?” Damien asked sarcastically.

“No.” She wanted to slam the door again, but Damien caught it with his foot before it closed. “I swear to god, if you don’t move your foot, I am going to amputate you,” Ana snarled. “And stop ringing the doorbell, I have a baby who is trying to sleep.”

Damien sighed. “You are grossly mistaken if you think I want to talk to you either. I wish I didn’t need to speak to you, but unfortunately, we have no other option.” He shook his head and lowered it. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize Alan was sleeping,” he mumbled apologetically.

“So, what did you think? That you would wander into my house and confront me in front of my son?”

Damien shook his head. “No… I don’t know… Ana, I didn’t think it through.”

Ana glared. “It seems like a habit to me,” she accused.

Damien sighed, possibly irritated. “Regardless, we have a lot to go through. Better now than later.”

Chapter 22

Ana really didn’t wish to, but Damien was right. He needed to know where Ana stood and although she didn’t want to admit it, she needed to know what Damien thought.

“Okay, but you are going to the backyard.”

“Ana, you aren’t even letting me inside your house? It’s cold out here.”

Ana huffed. She really didn’t want to let him in. “No, I am not letting you in. I was making a fort with Alan this morning and the house is a mess. Second, he is sleeping in the said fort and I won’t have your loud and aggressive voice wake him up,” she snapped. “So, go around the back and I will be out in a minute.” She shut the door and locked it. She ran up the stairs and grabbed her baby monitor and put it next to where Alan was sleeping. She hooked the other to her pant and made her way to the backyard. When she opened it, Damien was rocking back and forth, looking like he was cold.

“I will make one thing clear, if you get loud enough to make him even flinch in his sleep, this conversation is over,” Ana

warned.

Damien didn’t respond. He stared at her with what she believed was anger and hatred. But she got the message that he was behaving himself.

“I have plenty to say, but since you took the pain of coming over, I will let you go first.” Ana motioned him to go first.

thinking?”

“I don’t where to start, Anastasia.” Damien raked his hand through his hair. “What the hell were you

“When? When you seduced me or when I found out I was pregnant with your child? When, Damien?”

“When you decided to make me a father without discussing it with me. Didn’t I have a right to be part of that decision?”

“And what would your contribution be? Alan has made my life worth something and I don’t have a single regret about giving

birth to him.”

“You had no right-”

“I had every right. It was my body and you were only the sperm donor. I wasn’t going to kill my flesh and blood because I made a mistake.”

“No. That’s not what I meant. I meant you didn’t have a right to keep him from me. Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked.

Ana chuckled darkly. “You made my first time miserable. You made me think I was a mistake. Why on earth would I trust you enough to tell you I was pregnant?”

“You can’t put all the blame on me. It was just as much your fault. I had no idea that you were a virgin and you never asked me to stop.”
