Chapter 92
If Damien and Ana thought that moving in together would increase the time they spent as a family, they were gravely mistaken. Their work had been so busy that neither of them could take a breather.
Someone in Ana’s office messed up and weeks of their work and data were wiped from the server. She had been on the phone with IT for hours on end only to be told that they should give up and start making up for lost information once again. Good thing Ana always kept a hardcopy of the information on hand, but it would take days to process all the information once again. So, the days were long-
“Damnit!” Liam yelled as he threw a pen across the conference room.
Ana jumped in her seat but didn’t look up from what she was doing. “Does it help to throw things around?” she asked.
“Yes,” Liam hissed.
“Go ahead, then. Just make sure not to hurt me in the process. I am not sure it can be written off as workplace injury.” “The server is supposed to be backed up every week. How does hell does it just stop backing up and IT doesn’t even get wind.
of it?”
Ana sighed. “I don’t know, Liam, but does it really matter right now? Focus on problem–solving. Sit down and start making things better because Damien is going to pick me up and I am going home.”
“Are you coming to work tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow is my mandatory day off. I am not coming. Especially because I know you have a theeting with Carmen.” Ana gave him a pointed look.
“I know, Anastasia, but I can’t get this mess under control without you. I will ask Carmen to stay as far away from you as possible.”
Ana shook her head. “Give me any work you want and I will do it from home. Alan’s school isn’t open tomorrow and that is why I took the day off. Damien is just coming home, too. I can work from home, but I am not coming out.”
Liam gave her a look of relief and went back to work.
Ana was taken off guard when she heard a knock on the door. She turned to replace Damien standing over her, his fist pressed against the desk.
“Hi,” she smiled and said, letting out an exhausted breath.
Damien grinned mischievously. “Ready to go, Miss Busy?”
“I am drowning in work, but I am going to leave anyway,” Ana said with a laugh. Though there was no humor, she was relieved for the break.
She stood up and grabbed her suit jacket. “Hey, Liam, this is Damien. Damien, this is my colleague, Liam.”
Liam threw out his hand and Damien met it firmly. Ana saw Liam flinch a little and knew that Damien was paying the man back for ogling her chest. Ana put her hand to her mouth to hide the smile on her lips.
“Sorry for keeping her back until such an hour,” Liam apologized once Damien let his hand go. “You know how bad things get at the office. If Ana didn’t step up and help me with my share of the work, I would combust. She is my saving grace.” He shook his hand out, trying to relieve the pain before shoving it down below the desk where Damien couldn’t see.
“I know how efficient she is at work,” Damien said, throwing his arm over Ana’s shoulder. “And yes, she is the saving grace,” he added softly after kissing her forehead.
“I’ll send you two your way, now,” Liam said quickly. “And Anastasia, remember your promise.”
Ana nodded. “Don’t worry about it. Ping me in the morning and we can touch base then.”
Damien’s arm slid down her back, his hand resting on her hip as he allowed her to exit the conference room before him. It was just that territorial display that made her want to burst out laughing. Damien acted like such a boy when he was peeved.
“So, what happened?” he asked in the car as they drove home.
“I have no idea, really. Liam’s computer is connected to the server and he handles all the data and info for the projects. For some reason, it didn’t do that and we lost all the data input for the last couple of weeks. There were quite a few email archives lost in the process, too.”
Damien frowned. “Shouldn’t he have a backup for everything somewhere else? It seems awfully unprofessional not to.”
“He says he did. He had everything saved on a hard drive that he updates every night after finishing work. He keeps it in his
office but he can’t replace it.”
That made Damien pause. “He can’t replace it? Espionage?”
Ana shrugged. “The company is looking into it. Liam swears that he had it in his locker but no one went in or out of his

office except for him. He might have taken it home so he searched everywhere. But nothing. So, we are just putting everything together again. Good thing I had printed out most of the information for reference.”
“Oh yes, you and your need to make multiple copies of everything. You must have never been happier about it than right
now.”
Ana smiled sheepishly. “So, how was work for you?”
“A madhouse. I don’t know who sent out a memo saying that I was looking to expand the business but I have all these companies reaching out. There is just so much to do… It’s a madhouse.”
“And you are too controlling to let anyone else do some of the work.”
“I pay them to work, not to be my slave.”
Ana shook her head in disbelief. “And how is Alan?”
“I checked on him over video call on the way back from work. Dad picked him up from school and they made spaghetti and meatballs for dinner.”
Ana grinned. “Oh, yeah? Why do you look so traumatized by it?”
Damien scowled and looked sideways at her. He should have known that a three–year–old playing with pasta sauce and noodles was a disaster waiting to happen..
