Chapter 1034
The Yaren Tribe had been through war, and with Freya's determination to follow Micah, her combat skills had reached an elite level.
The thug struggled to shake her off, but Freya pinned him down effortlessly. "Still not giving up?" she taunted. "I'll take you straight to the police!"
She was not interested in arguing with him.
The moment he heard the word "police," the thug panicked and began pleading, "I'll give the money back! I'll double it! Just let me go, and please, don't take me to the police!"
"Spit out the money first," Freya demanded.
He did not dare refuse. Freya only took back the little girl's share, refusing the double offer. With one hand firmly gripping the thug, she used the other to call the police. She knew that without dealing with him thoroughly, he would just cause more trouble later. The thug was unlucky to have crossed paths with her.
After the police arrived and took him away, Freya handed the girl some extra money. "Little one, this is all I can do to help you. Make sure to live well."
Seeing such a young girl struggling to survive reminded Freya of the displaced children during the war. She could not help but wonder how different things would be if there had never been any war.
If Yaren Tribe had always been peaceful and prosperous, then Pharaoh perhaps would not have neglected his family for politics, and Micah would not carry so many burdens.
But there were no "what ifs."
"Thank you," the little girl said gratefully.
As Freya watched the girl walk away, she overheard her speaking on the phone in the Yaren language. Freya's heart warmed. She had not realized the girl was a fellow countrywoman. However, the girl had already disappeared into the distance.
Just then, Micah's voice interrupted her thoughts. "Have you ever heard the saying, 'Even the strongest outsider can't beat the local advantage,' right?"
Freya was skilled in combat, and strong, but she was still alone in a foreign place. If the thugs had accomplices, things could have turned out much worse.
Freya replied, "I didn't think that far. Besides, weren't you right here with me?"
At the time, her mind was solely on helping the girl. But now that Micah mentioned it, she knew she was not wrong to feel safe. Micah would never let anything happen to her.
Micah sighed, "It's not that I don't want you to act, but you should consider your own safety first."
Freya felt a surge of warmth and stuck out her tongue playfully. "Got it."
A big smile spread across her face, and when Micah saw it, he could not help but think how particularly cute and mischievous she looked in that moment.
Freya gently slipped her hand around his arm. "So, should we go replace Nina, or keep hunting for snacks?"
Micah noticed the way she held his arm. Her hand was so slender and fair. And her movement was so natural, almost instinctive.
Freya noticed his gaze, and though she lowered her head, she did not let go. "We're out in public, and our status is obvious. If we don't act naturally, people might get suspicious. We ran into Nina, and even some fellow Yaren people. Who knows who else we might run into..." Before she could finish, Micah interrupted softly, "Alright, enough with the chatter. Let's get some food first, then we can look for Nina and the others."
"Got it!" Freya's smile grew so wide, it nearly stretched to the back of her head.
"If Micah was fine with her holding his hand in public, then maybe, just maybe, they could move on to other things-like kissing, or even marriage," Freya thought to herself.
