Lydia was so shocked she didn't even know how to react. The news was completely unexpected.

The doctor quickly prescribed folic acid, and neither of them said a word until they got into the car. Once seated, Quincy finally glanced at Lydia, clearly trying to contain his emotions.

"You..." he began, but Lydia cut him off, her voice betraying her nervousness. "I had no idea either. My period didn't come for a month, but my cycle has always been irregular, so I didn't think much of it."

Lydia nodded resolutely. She had already made up her mind. No matter what her family said, even if her parents didn't approve, she was going to have this child and raise it.

But then Quincy said something that hit her like a bolt of lightning. "We can't keep this baby. It's going to affect you, and since it's still early, we can take care of it now."

It felt like the ground had crumbled beneath her. Lydia stared at Quincy in disbelief, her eyes burning with anger. "Quincy! This is your child. How could you say something so cold?"

Quincy's reasoning was entirely for her benefit, which caused some of Lydia's anger to subside. But she remained firm in her decision.
