Quincy let out a sigh, gently helping Lydia sit down. "You don't need to talk to me like that. If your dad wants to meet, I'll go."

Although Mr. Fay hadn't formally acknowledged him, Quincy had already started seeing him as his future father-in-law. And in his mind, a father-in-law was like a second father. How could he refuse? Quincy planned to visit Fay Corporation at noon to meet her father. Lydia, worried, wanted to go with him, but he refused, insisting she stay at the company. After a bit of back and forth, Lydia finally agreed. As Quincy stepped out of the car in front of the towering Fay Corporation building, a wave of unexpected nerves hit him.

He had been in plenty of meetings with high-profile companies and CEOs, especially when working alongside Nash, and by comparison, the Fay Corporation wasn't even that big.

Yet, the tension remained.

Adjusting his tie, he took a deep breath and walked inside.

The receptionist greeted him with a polite smile. "Good afternoon, sir. You mentioned you're here to see Mr. Fay. Do you have an appointment?"

"Yes, Mr. Fay asked me to come," Quincy replied simply.

The receptionist maintained her smile and made a quick call to confirm. Once cleared, she directed him upstairs.

The chairman's office was on the third floor. Quincy was escorted there without any issues or delays. There were no obstacles, no hoops to jump through. He was even surprised at how smoothly it all went.

Sure enough, Mr. Fay was sitting in his office, waiting. Without looking up from his paperwork, he greeted Quincy, "Ah, you're here. Have a seat."

Quincy's throat tightened, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly. Anyone who knew him well would recognize this as a sign of his nerves.

Mr. Fay, calm and composed, hadn't changed his expression once. It was impossible for Quincy to gauge what his future father-in-law was thinking.

"I heard your company's been taking some hits recently. Lost a few contracts, and your cash flow is in trouble, isn't it?" Mr. Fay remarked without much emotion.

Oddly enough, hearing this made

Quincy feel more at ease. It would have been unsettling if Mr. Fay had gone easy on him. "Thank you for your concern, but we're managing," Quincy replied, his voice steady.

BUMS

He wasn't just bluffing. With Nash's help, Quincy had managed to recover several contracts. While they had lost a few deals, they weren't in

the dire situation they had been

initially. The funds were slowly coming back, and as long as he played his cards right moving forward, the company would stabilize.

Mr. Fay let out a low scoff and tossed his pen onto the desk. "Even if you manage to keep the business afloat, it's still small potatoes. My daughter has been spoiled her entire life. She's always had the best of everything.

"I give her nothing but the best. Now you want to marry her, but do you think you're in a position to provide her with the life she deserves?"

The authority Mr. Fay had honed over decades in the business world hit Quincy like a wave. The pressure was palpable.

Quincy clenched his fists, his gaze never wavering. He met Mr. Fay's eyes directly. "I know I'm not there yet. But that doesn't mean I won't be in the future. "Lydia and I made a promise. If I can't do it in one year, I'll take two. But I swear, one day, I'll be worthy of the daughter you raised with so much care."

Just then, a familiar voice rang out. "I believe in him! Dad, you should believe in him too!"

Quincy was stunned as Lydia came running into the room, throwing herself into his arms.

For the first time, Quincy felt his heart skip a beat, something even Mr. Fay's intimidating presence hadn't caused. His voice came out in a near panic, "Why are you running so fast?"

His initial tone was filled with worry, but after a brief pause, he softened his voice, concerned she might have scared herself. "What if you fell? I'm not going anywhere. There's no need to rush."
