Nash used the process of elimination. The fact that they fired at him suggested a personal grudge. The only unresolved case from back then was the human trafficking case.

These criminals would typically target children, not an adult woman like Nina, unless it involved organ trafficking.

Given the exposure from the first attempt, they would likely be cautious and avoid targeting the same person twice.

Moreover, Nina's status made her an unlikely target for such criminals. This pointed more towards someone hiring them specifically to harm Nina.

"Captain York, that woman from yesterday is here again," a soldier reported urgently, unable to keep her out.

Miranda stood not far away, visibly emotional as she saw Nash awake. As a public figure, she always wore sunglasses to avoid negative press, especially during sensitive times. Removing her glasses now, he eyes were red and tears streamed down her face, making her look both pitiful and deeply affectionate.

"Nash, are you okay?" she asked anxiously, "I was so worried about you. Thank goodness you're awake. If you hadn't woken up, I wouldn't have been able to sleep, crying every night."

She reached out to inspect his injuries, but Nash blocked her hand, his eyes sharp despite his pale complexion. "You came here yesterday?"

Recalling Nina's suspicions, Miranda quickly explained, "I've been so anxious about you these past few days. I couldn't sleep or eat, worried something had happened to you. I was here for a check-up when I saw Nina and all the people, and I knew something was wrong. I couldn't sleep all night."

Without makeup, her face looked drained and colorless. Nash continued to scrutinize her and asked, "Are you involved in this?"

Miranda's heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean? I know you got shot, but are you suspecting me?"

Tears welled up in her eyes, and she cried even harder, "Nash, how could I ever hurt you? I risked my life for you before, without a second thought. How could I possibly harm you?"

She was visibly emotional, starting to choke up. Nash, well aware of their past, remained unaffected.

His voice was devoid of any warmth as he spoke, "I'm not talking about myself. I'm talking about Nina. Someone wants her dead."

Miranda looked up, "Nash, I never thought you would see me this way. I would never do something so evil, nor would I hurt Nina. If you think I could do this, what's the point of my life? I might as well have died back then!"

Nash had grown tired of her repeated outbursts and did not want to hear her tearful complaints any longer. With Nina still asleep inside, he did not want to wake her up and risk upsetting her.

He spoke coldly, "Enough. I'll figure this out. If there's nothing else, go back to work. For your own reputation and the company's image, at least maintain your public persona."

Miranda's sobs quieted down, but hearing Nash's distant tone felt like a stab to her heart.

She wanted to say more, but when she glanced into the room, she saw someone lying on the bed.

It was Nina!
