Chapter 553

"How is this possible?"

Nina never imagined seeing Wilfred like this. Why would he be afraid she wouldn't like him?

He had every reason to be confident and not fear anyone's disapproval.

Right now, Nina needed to take care of his wounds.

She spoke softly, "Be good, let me take care of your injuries first."

Wilfred was still hesitant.

But Nina couldn't worry about anything else. She needed to help him with his current problem. She unbuttoned his shirt, revealing his pale skin covered in horrifying scars. It pained her to see it.

There was medicine on the coffee table. She gently applied it to his wounds and asked, "Did you come to see me yesterday?"

Wilfred looked down and didn't speak.

As she treated his wounds, Nina thought over the past few days' events and said again, "You came to see me yesterday. You came but didn't dare to face me. At that time, you weren't injured. You got hurt after I was kidnapped. That woman, the red-haired woman, I saw her coming out of your room. You know her. She was the one who kidnapped me. I know she must have her reasons. What about you? You know them. Did they do this to you?"

This was her guess, and she felt it was very likely.

Wilfred didn't want to get into details but also didn't want to hide anything from her. He said quietly, "Her name is Scarlett."

"Scarlett," Nina remembered the taxi that day. "Was she the driver that day?"

"Yes," Wilfred replied. "That's how I was able to save you from her."

Nina looked at Wilfred with deep emotions. "The dark room, did we meet in the dark room?"

This made Wilfred look at her, trying to figure out how much she knew. But Nina's eyes were full of confusion, indicating she didn't know much.

Wilfred never wanted her to remember. He just missed her. Now that he had time, he just wanted to watch her from afar, not wanting to revisit those bad memories with her.

He averted his gaze and said lightly, "You are Nina."

Nina felt he was avoiding the topic. "I am Nina, but I am also Ivy, right? You just called me Ivy. I am Ivy, aren't I?" Wilfred's brows furrowed slightly as he wrestled with his inner conflict.

He wasn't sure if meeting her was right or wrong.

But he knew one day they would have to face it.

He wanted to protect her, to keep her growing up in a sweet world, even if she belonged to another man.

He loved her and cherished her.

He wanted to care for her delicately, yet knowing she never truly belonged to him.

Wilfred understood clearly that they were no longer from the same world.

His hand gradually withdrew, and in that moment, he felt he should stay as far away from her as possible. "You are Nina. I know you are Nash's wife. Ivy... she is just a part of my imagination."

Nina remembered her scattered dreams, as if they represented her entire past.

"I had no name," she said, her eyes fixed on him. "You never knew my real name. You only knew my voice. You said it was beautiful and graceful. In the dark room with cold walls, you decided to call me Ivy, like the ivy that climbs and adorns walls with grace. You're not truly Wilfred, and she's not truly Scarlett. Those are names given by others."

Wilfred's fists clenched tighter, realizing she knew more than he had expected. His downcast eyes trembled, and suddenly, he felt a surge of fear.

He turned around and pushed Nina down onto the sofa.
