Chapter 575

Nina's face looked a bit pale, but she put the phone back down. She lay on her side, listening to the sound of water running in the bathroom, feeling uneasy.

What had Nash been doing that afternoon? was he investigating the scene of the female corpse, or meeting with Miranda?

A sense of unease crept over Nina. She trusted Nash. They had been married for three years, and he had never treated her like he had recently.

She felt his affection and care deeply. She could see the love in his eyes, a love meant only for her. He had promised to love her forever, and that she would always be his Mrs. York.

Nash's unusual behavior made her feel there were things she did not know and things he might be hiding.

Lost in thought, she did not notice when Nash finished his shower. He walked out, drying, his hair with a towel, and looked at her to see if she was asleep.

Nina moved slightly and looked up at him.

Nash lowered his eyes and walked over slowly. "You're still awake?"

"I'm waiting for you," Nina replied.

Nash finished drying his hair and got into bed. Instinctively, Nina wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her head on him.

Nash stroked her hair. "What's wrong?"

Nina decided not to dwell on the fact that he had a call with Miranda. She saw the serious look on his face, and it was clear something was weighing heavily on him. If something, was troubling him, his call with Miranda could not have been pleasant.

"Nothing. Let's sleep," Nina said.

Nash lay flat on his back, staring at the ceiling. After a long pause, he said, "I'll be home late tomorrow. You should get some rest."

Nina, who had already closed her eyes but she opened them again. "Alright, I understand."

Nash turned and hugged her tightly. Nina had many questions, but in that moment, being held by him, all her doubts disappeared. They were still a couple.

She took his hand and placed it on her belly. "If there's anything going on, we can face it together."

Feeling her warmth, Nash's eyes filled with emotion. Her words moved him deeply, but he had to keep his feelings in check. He felt a mix of helplessness and worry.

He held her tighter, burying his face in her hair, not wanting her to see his expression. "Let's sleep," he said softly.

Nina smiled and quickly drifted off. She had been feeling more and more tired lately, often falling asleep easily.

She soon fell into a deep sleep, while Nash stayed awake, watching her sleep. He could not bring himself to look away.

The next day, Nina woke up around noon. Nash was already gone. She stretched and left the bedroom.

Eve was just coming downstairs. "Nina, you're finally up! It's already noon. I've been so bored, waiting for you all morning."

Eve had been up early, excited about spending the day with Nina as promised.

"It's already noon?" Nina said, surprised. "I slept for over ten hours."

"Why did you sleep so long? Do all pregnant women sleep this much?" Eve asked, puzzled.

Nina also wondered if it was normal for her to sleep so much.

"And Nash left early this morning," Eve grumbled. "He didn't even stay to have breakfast with you. He said we'd all eat together yesterday."

Nina replied understandingly, "He's been really busy these past few days. Let's wait until he's less busy, then we can plan something."
