Chapter 769

The boy's eyes held a deep sadness as he spoke.

Nina could feel the pain in his heart. The village had been peaceful, and now, in an instant, everyone was dead, leaving him alone.

Nina bit her lip and stepped forward to help the boy gather the bodies. As they worked, she asked, "I saw what happened. Weren't those people soldiers? Did your village do something to provoke them?"

A flash of anger crossed the boy's eyes. "Do you think the elderly and children could have done anything? Those weren't soldiers, they were Pharaoh's men!" His voice was filled with rage, words squeezed out between gritted teeth.

The able-bodied men of the village had left to earn money or had been drafted, leaving only the vulnerable behind.

They just wanted to live in peace. What had they done to deserve this?

"I'm sorry," Nina said, at a loss for words. In her understanding, soldiers were supposed to be honorable and disciplined, but the boy's words shattered that belief.

And he had mentioned Pharaoh again. Pharaoh's men were looking for her, making poisons, burning, and looting...

"Why did you come here, to such a war-torn place?" the boy asked.

In this place, apart from civilians living in the midst of war, there were peacekeeping forces, Pharaoh's subordinates, and the local army. But the local army was too weak to protect anyone.

Nina hesitated. "I came to replace someone. I was with friends, but we got separated. What's your name?" She paused before adding, " Is this the Yaren territory?"

The boy glanced at her before bringing some branches from behind a house.

Nina followed, helping him gather more. When they had enough, he lit a fire. As the flames roared, he finally spoke, "This is the northern part of the Yaren territory."

The boy didn't intend to reveal his name.

Nina understood that he still harbored caution toward her, but she admired his determination. He even thought to cremate and bury the dead.

She tried to connect with him, "I got separated from my friends. I can't understand the Yaren language. Can you stay with me and be my translator?"

She needed a translator and the boy had nowhere else to go.

The boy remained silent, his eyes still wary. "Who are you looking for in the Yaren territory?"

"Someone very important to me." Nina replied.

As for July and Moana with her child, they had probably fled.

The boy remained silent.

Nina continued, "Let's go inside and see if we can replace some medical supplies. I need to bandage your wound or it will get infected.

To gain the boy's trust and cooperation, Nina knew she had to show goodwill.

The boy did not respond or move. So Nina began to search cach house. As she stepped inside, she was shocked by what she saw.

The homes were simple, without any luxurious decor, and each house had been ransacked and looted.

After searching several homes, she finally found a bottle of iodine and a small roll of gauze.

As she stepped outside with her replaceings, she was taken aback by what she saw.
