Cheating -
chapter 3
Chapter 3
Aaron and I were college classmates.
Like all teenage boys, he was lively and a bit mischievous. His favorite thing to do was to hit the girls he liked with a badminton shuttlecock.
Back then, Aaron was incredibly handsome,
and both Rita and I fell for him at first sight. But
Aaron’s shuttlecock ultimately chose Rita.
I was a bit disappointed, but fortunately, Rita was my good friend. I could still quietly watch over him from the sidelines where he couldn’t
see me.
I thought I’d spend my life quietly admiring him. But the turning point came quickly–Rita had to

follow her family’s wishes and study abroad.
Neither was willing to compromise for the other, leading to a fierce argument.
“Rita, can’t you sacrifice a little for our love?” Aaron gripped Rita’s hand, his face full of anguish.
But Rita retorted, “Then why won’t you sacrifice
for our love, Aaron?”
They were forced to part ways.
Aaron was devastated back then, and I was
heartbroken. I cursed fate for torturing my beloved Aaron. Watching him in his despair every day broke my heart.

Looking back now, both Aaron and Rita were simply selfish and self–centered.
After Aaron’s heartbreak, I stayed by his side as a friend. His buddies often teased us, “Is she your girlfriend?” Each time, I would look at Aaron with hope, but he always denied it, “Just a friend!”
This went on for a long time until we graduated from college.
One day, Aaron found out that Rita had married and settled abroad. He got drunk that night, utterly devastated. He clung to me, crying into my neck.
I felt a mix of panic and longing. It was the first
time I had been so close to him; his embrace

was so warm and intoxicating that I couldn’t help but hug him tightly.
The next day, when he sobered up, my dream
came true.
“Anna, will you be my girlfriend? I’ll treat you with all my heart.”
Looking into Aaron’s sincere eyes, I clumsily agreed.
Our relationship grew stronger over time.
We would steal kisses in the movie theater. He always stroked my hair, teasing me and calling me his good girl. Even in the face of his friends‘ teasing, he no longer denied our relationship.

I felt happiness to the fullest. This joy peaked when I gave birth to our daughter.
Aaron was a wonderful husband and father.
I often felt lucky to have married him. But everything changed when Rita came back.
“Why does the birthday have to be celebrated now? Why does it have to be when Ronnie is
sick?”
“Didn’t you hear how scared Rita was? You were best friends in college; why can’t you show a bit
of tolerance?”
“How long are you going to keep this up? Ronnie doesn’t have a father, so I’ll be there for his birthday. Can’t you attend the parent–teacher conference for our daughter?”

Aaron abandoned us time and again for Rita, leaving our home behind. He wouldn’t even come to see our daughter before she died. He was no longer the Aaron I once knew.
I looked around the house I’d lived in for so long, took my daughter’s ashes, and left a divorce agreement.
With no regrets, I left the home I had lived in for
so many years.
