AMERY

"The beauty of this forest cannot be overemphasized. I fall in love with it everyday." A small smile played on my lips as the words escaped my mouth intentionally. I glanced at Dalia and she met my eyes with a forced smile. We were on our way to the pack's market to get a gift for Asher and I couldn't help but feel giddy with excitement.

"How long, before we get there?" I went further to ask when she didn't respond to my previous remark. She had been awfully quiet even before she started the trip. I wasn't used to being ignored. It wouldn't hurt if she gave me a listening ear or replied to me every once in a while. "A couple more minutes." She blurted out while I looked ahead.

"By the way," She started. Her legs grazing the ground slowly as she walked "Concerningthe Alpha brothers, who do you like best?"

I shrugged, wondering why she would even ask me that question. The last time I checked, we weren't that close in the first place so what was her deal in the first place to ask me that.

"They all have different personalities aside Levi and no, I can't choose."

"I don't mean that silly." She hit my arm playfully "I meant that if you were to pick one as a lover, who would you choose?"

"That's a bit personal don't you think so?" I arched a brow at her and I caught her roll her eyes at me.

"Forgive my endless questions. I'm just trying to get to know you. I realized that we have never tried to know each other ever since you moved In to live with the Alpha brothers. I don't mean any harm"

I faked a smile at her. It didn't look like she was trying to get to know me, it felt like she was interrogating me and I didn't like one bit if it. I felt uncomfortable.

"Do you ever plan on leaving this realm and going back to your world?" She asked again and I am forced to look at her "Or do you plan on getting a mate before you leave?"

"Whatever works" I answered feeling uninterested.

"I know that the mating pull can be stressful and you might not realize whom you want to be with but it gets better with time. The attraction you feel sometimes doesn't also necessarily mean that the person you are close to night be your mate." She explained but I don't respond.

"The mating bond is different when it comes to different people. I could explain and teach it to you if you'd like" she offered but I turned down her request.

"Thank you so much Dalia but I think that I can handle myself."

I see the anger and resentment flash through her eyes. It quickly disappears within a matter of seconds that I am forced to ask if I had truly seen it or if it were only a figment of my imagination.

We arrive at the pack's market and I am I awe at how beautiful and incredible it looked. It was far more beautiful than anything I had ever seen in the human world. It was like these people had an entirely different world secluded from the humans. Everything about them was unique and different.

I watched with interest as they traded amongst themselves. If I didn't know any better, I'd mistaken them for mere individuals. They had a life of their own and each shop sold different kinds of stuff and mythical artifacts. It would take a whole lot to figure out what to get for Asher here. Just looking at the different items being displayed had me wallowing in indecision.

"Where do we even begin? Everywhere is so crowded and I feel like I would pass out anytime soon." I regarded Dalia who also looked around the area with me.

"Let's start here." She pointed at a store a few feet away we stood "They are known to sell amazing birthday gifts capable of winning a man over."

I nodded and we both approached the store. After exchanging pleasantries with the shop owner, we looked around for a gift worthy of Asher. True to Dalia's word, the items displayed were to beautiful that I had trouble replaceing and picking up just out of the massive pile.

"What about this one?" Dalia flashed a neck piece at my face and I held the pendant to admire the craft and design.

"It's beautiful." I whispered unconsciously.

She smiled at the necklace "I made something just like this for Asher for his birthday last year. I could remember that he wore it everyday and refused to take it off."

I frowned at that statement but she only continued.

"You know..." She continued "Asher and I go a long way back. He had taken a liking to me when I was first brought to serve in the mansion. We were inseparable." She placed the necklace exactly where she had picked it up.

"Asher had always been there for me right from the very first day and he was always very wild when it came to passionate s*x" She bragged on with a satisfied grin "He had a ferocious appetite and his desire for s*x was simply insatiable. Most times, we were at it for days and he still couldn't get enough"

I felt my blood boil in nothing but pure jealousy. The volcano of rage had just erupted as hot lava spewed inside me. I was envious of what she had just said. I know that they had history together but did she really have to rub it in? What exactly was she trying to prove by telling me all these things? What twisted point was she trying to make in the first place?

"I'm sorry I spoke too much." She quickly apologized when she realized that my mood had changed drastically in a matter of minutes "I didn't mean to go on and on like that. It's just that, when you're with a man like Asher, you can't help but show him off. He's every women's fantasy."

I became envious and irritated at the way she freely talked about Asher.

"It's okay." I tried to reel In my anger and focus on the task at hand.

"The neckpiece is out." She scrapped out that option "We'd have to choose something else since he already has something like that."

I breathed heavily "I think I'll go with this" I picked out a handmade friendship bracelet from the items. I gave it to the shopkeeper to add some details and a customized initials that I knew that Asher would like, to it. I went further to pick out an elaborate birthday card, making sure to design it beautifully by adding a handwritten note and tiny kisses at the edges.

"It looks so beautiful." I flashed the card at Dalia's face "Asher would definitely like it wouldn't he?"

"Don't you want to look at another option?" She suggested but I waved her off.

"No!" I blurted out in utmost satisfaction "This would do. I'm pretty sure of it."

"Would you please excuse me. I'll be back in a minute!" Dalia walked away before I could respond. I felt relief course through me at that particular moment. I have had enough of her endless talks about her past relationship with Asher.

"Hello mister!" She beckoned to the shop owner and he answered almost immediately "Do you happen to have any paint brushes? I'd like to get one too."

He nodded to my question and proceeded to show me a few designs and I settled on one for Quincy. He had the talent to draw so it'd only be wise to get him something that he would actually like. Plus, apart from Asher, Quincy was the only one who was kind to me in his little twisted and flirtatious ways.

I thought about Levi and I cringed inwardly. There's no way in hell I'd actually give him a gift. He had made my life miserable and had always tried his very best to degrade me in the cruelest ways.

I picked up my items and proceeded towards the counter to pay when I noticed the weird glances most people threw towards my direction.

At first I thought it was because of the 'resting b***h' expression I had on my face or due to the fact that I walked with a sophisticated elegance but when they eyed me shamelessly and turned up their noses in and whispered incoherent words amongst themselves as they pointed at me, I knew then that something had gone horribly wrong.

I couldn't understand why they acted like that until I saw wanted poster with a realistic drawing of me pasted on the wall. I had been declared 'Wanted' by the Alpha king and a generous reward had been placed for anyone who found and turned me in.

I would've been lying if I said that I didn't feel my heart skip several beats in a matter of nano seconds. My nerves were all over the place and a strange tension creep inside me.

"It can't be!" I whispered to myself as I looked around the crowd that was slowly coming together in one spot.

"There she is!" Someone shouted from afar and at that moment, I saw the king's security men approaching me.

I took to my heels immediately as I ran through the crowd in search of Dalia. Hoping that they wouldn't catch up to me before then.
