But the Yates family had even darker intentions. They introduced Dominic to a local mob they had been secretly working with, hoping to drag him down with them.

The day after Bella returned to Miller Manor, she received a call from an unknown number. It was Amber.

Amber asked to meet, barely offering two words of explanation before giving Bella an address and hanging up.

Bella felt a bit relieved, realizing Amber had made it back safely and wasn't in immediate danger. But she still didn't completely trust her.

When she went to meet Amber, Bella brought along two bodyguards. For the first time, she realized bodyguards weren't just for "showing off-they actually made her feel secure. Amber had chosen a high-end apartment building for their meeting.

When Bella saw her, she was surprised. The once-arrogant woman now looked worn down, her face stripped of its usual flawless makeup, leaving her looking plain and exhausted. The apartment was empty except for Amber, who was curled up on the couch, hugging her knees to her chest.

When she noticed the bodyguards Bella had brought, she gave a bitter smile. "I'm in this state, and you're still afraid I might try something?"
