Fated To Roman: The Almighty Alpha -
Twenty-Eight
Roman's POV
I hadn't slept an ounce when my alarm went off. It wasn't that it was my mother's funeral today but the memory of me ripping out Lucille's throat that had been playing on an endless loop in my mind. There was no possible way she could have survived that. I watched the light leave her eyes. I heard her heart stop beating and I felt her body go limp and cold. Had she miraculously survived her father wouldn't have spent the last months chasing me. When Cleo asked me if I thought her father had something to do with it, I wanted to say no but I couldn't. Truth is it was very likely he had played a massive part in Lucille's return. Witches were powerful I'd give them that, but not even they had the power needed to resurrect corpse that had spent the better part of a year decomposing.
As hard for me and my family the death of my mother is, I couldn't ignore how hard this also was for Cleo. Her and her sister had both been welcomed into not only my home but my family. Everything seemed like it was going on track. I had my mate; we were going to have a pup of our own and then disaster struck. The biggest hit being that it was Cleo's sister that delivered the final blow robbing my mother and the packs past Luna of her life.
I looked over at Cleo who still laid there peacefully sleeping, her long thick eyelashes fluttering as she dreamed. Supressing the urge to laugh though was difficult as her beautiful red hair stuck to her cheek as she dribbled during the night. My heart broke knowing she didn't deserve any of the bad things that had happened so far, and I wished more the anything that I could just whisk her away hiding her from the outside world to keep her safe. I wanted to wake her and take her with me worried that someone may try something while she slept out of revenge, but she needed the rest. Once I'd showered and dressed into my black suit, I made my way to Kai's office. Today would be my mother's funeral so we expected a massive turnout. Had she been confined to only the Moonlight Pack things would have been kept on a smaller scale, but one of my fathers had been the Alpha to the Gemstone pack. My mother the Luna at his side until my sister became old enough and took over. Each member that could travel would arrive here today to pay their last respects. To some she was just a Luna, but she was so much more than that. During her reign she had changed so much in respects to how the way both packs had been run. My great-grandfather may have paved the way to allow a she-wolf to rule the kingdom as a Queen, however it was my mother that showed a she-wolf could also run her own pack. Layla becoming the first to prove how right my mother was.
The pack house was both colder and quieter than normal with the exceptions of the odd few omegas already setting the banquet hall. Not one of them dared look at me, not today. "Roman... where's Cleo?" Turning I came face to face with my father Hector. His eyes were darker his face bruised and his broken arm in a sling as he hadn't completely healed. "Does it matter?" My tone was void of emotion. Me and this man were constantly arguing but I hoped today we wouldn't, my mother deserved far better than that from us. "Of course, it matters. Your mother is dead, or did you forget?"
"How the fuck could I forget? Out of respect for my mother I have sworn I wouldn't kick off today. Make me break that promise I dare you!" Shaking my head, I turned to walk away only to replace my other father Axel behind me. "What is this?" I snarled growing frustrated.
"Talk to me not to him. Hector give us a minute and I'll come replace you." I watched as my father snarled before storming back off out of the room. "Look son, we only want to be sure that your mate isn't involved in any way." Seeing my eyes turn red he immediately placed his hands up. "Now calm down Roman. We don't want to hurt her. That pup she carries is not only a part of you but a part of Athena. We would protect it with our lives you know that. All we ask is that you allow us to prove she held no position in this attack." This man had always been my hero. Even with no wolf I looked up to him and as a young boy would follow his instruction blindly. He had never lied to me even when my mother and other father had asked him to. Don't get me wrong I loved them both, but Axel I trusted more than anyone in my life.
"How do you plan on doing so?"
"Henrik will be here within two hours. Once he heard what happened he said goodbye to his daughter and grandson in order to make his way here." Letting out a deep breath I nodded. "I won't let any harm come to your mate or your pup Roman. Even if what Henrik sho..."
"It won't be because she's not involved."
"And I pray that your right, but if your wrong and I do mean if. I will give you my word Cleo won't be harmed. She will be secured until the pup is born and only then will she stand trial." I wanted to shout and punch him for even thinking what he did, but how could he not. Daphne was Cleo's everything so for her to suddenly commit the crime she did was extremely suspicious. That being said I had no doubts my mate was innocent; I just hope she saw that when I woke her up. When I got back to the room Cleo was up and in the bathroom. The door was locked so I assumed she was using the toilet until I heard the sounds of her gagging and haggard breathing. Worry instantly washed over me. Stepping backwards I kicked the door open before rushing inside. In that moment I felt both overprotective and an idiot. Cleo was hunched over the toilet her face in the bowl. Rushing to her side I held her hair back and rubbed her back hoping to comfort her. "This is yo... your fault." Furrowing my brows Cleo looked up at me.
"How is you being sick my fault?"
"You knocked me up, so you made me sick." I couldn't help the soft chuckle that left my lips.

"If I remember rightly getting pregnant takes two. Isn't being sick a good sign? I know Layla suffered with the twins."
"Do I look like Layla Roman? Do I?" Remembering what Lewis had told me about the sudden shift in attitude and wanting to actually keep my balls I just shook my head.
"Hmp! That's what I thought." Once her head was back in the toilet, I couldn't help but smile. Once Cleo began to feel better, she hoped into the shower. "So... you look like you're thinking. What's wrong?" "How do I look like I'm thinking?"
"There's smoke coming from your ears." Cleo just laughed as she stepped out wrapping the towel I handed her around her body. "I'm joking, but what's wrong?"
"My father wants you to prove that you and Daphne weren't working together, that you played no part in my mother's murder."
"And what do you think? Do you think I was involved?"

"No." Without giving her hormonal mind a chance to over think and analyse things I wasted no time in responding.
"Then can't they just take you at your word?"
"Had my mother been anyone else then probably yes. However, she was the great-granddaughter of the moon goddess. Plenty of people have tried and failed to take her down then out of nowhere I replace you and your sister, and she kills her. I know hand on heart you weren't involved Cleo, but you have to see it from their point of view."
"I have nothing to hide so fine but only if it doesn't affect the pup."
"Henrik won't allow any harm to befall it don't worry." And it's true. He had known our family long enough to know we meant business.
"Henrik?"
"He's a witch and has helped us out several times before. He met his mate in our pack way before my mother was born. He's old but his magic remains strong. He was the leader to the Gemini cover when he first met my grandfather." Cleo just nodded as she walked round me and into the wardrobe. Seconds later she came out with a black short sleeve dress and a shawl. Layla had a few omegas stock the wardrobe when she knew Cleo was staying. "Did you?" I shook my head.
"Layla." Cleo hummed as she nodded before getting dressed.
