Romans POV

Out of nowhere my vision became blurry, pictures of Cleo shifting entering my mind. It was as if I was there, both as a witness and participant to everything that happened. The beads of sweat on my neck proof of the pain she felt as her body changed. When the shift was finished there she stood. No longer a wolf but a beast similar to that of a Lycanthrope thanks to her demonic half. The thing Johnathon from the council feared as he warned me on the phone the night I called him had happened. Cleo and Freya had become one.

Suddenly the pictures disappeared my vision once again taking in the sight of the cell in which we stood. I knew it was only a matter of time until something else was going to happen. There was no way Cleo would have taken this step had she not had a plan. I tried to connect to her, to feel what she felt but was met with nothing but a cold darkness. The second I described what I saw Kai reached out to those on border control asking them to keep their eyes peeled. If they saw Freya, they needed to stay clear. She had already proven that killing for no logical reason was of no consequence for her. The deaths of the two omegas were something we were able to cover up, but next time. Next time I we wouldn't be able to. "Where is she going? She can't be on the territory, or someone would have reported it." Eric asked the question I was dying to know. Stories of Lycan beasts were nothing more than a myth, something we knew once existed but no more. That being said with Cleo's new appearance it would have all the past dragged back up. Hunters would once again search for her kind not stopping until she and every being like her were gone.

Daphne began to snicker as we continued to be baffled by my mate's actions. As I went to resume the interrogation a fog filled my mind setting goosebumps ablaze on my skin. I was both hot and cold yet the coldness that began to take hold was painful.

"Roman what's going on?" I held my head as I felt my strength diminish, dizziness rushing over me.

Words of an unspoken language like a whisper to my ear as Freya summoned the gateway to hell. It had to have been what that, for there was no other reason. The words she spoke to anyone else would sound like a made up jumble. Though with our grandmother having been who she was, dark language was something our father insisted we learn. He wanted it drilled into us how dangerous and catastrophic it could be if we were to ever meddle in that side of things. The way it could corrupt even the purest if souls. It wasn't something to be taken lightly.

Hearing how easy the words rolled off Freya's tongue, it angered me to wonder how Cleo could be so reckless as to agree with her wolf. She had been anything but predictable which made what was happening that much more dangerous. The only thing I was glad about was it was me she drew from and not our pup.

"Cleo... she... she's summoned the gateway to hell. If they step through it, he will kill her." As the chanting stopped my mind became clear my vision turning back to normal as the goosebumps disappeared. I no longer felt the icy chill that came with her drawing on the darkness that resides deep within me.

"Poor little Cleo... hck... daddy is going to punish her." Daphne laughed as she coughed up the blood from the beating she had endured. "Enough Daph." Eric turned to face her; he knew all too well that should she provoke me in this moment I'd end her where she hung. "You don't get to Daph me! You rejected me remember. Good thing really. The guy I've been sleeping with is too good to pass up." "Shut up." Daphne once again laughed knowing she was getting under Eric's skin as he clenched his fists at his side.

"The way his hands feel on my skin, his tongue as it dives inside me..." Kai was quick to knock her unconscious as Eric began to shift. With the rejection incomplete her words would be like a dagger to the heart. A pain just what he would feel had they completed the mating process only for her to be unfaithful.

Eric growled his fur retreating as he walked up to where Daphne hung. Gripping her hair, he pulled her head to the side sinking his canines into her neck. He was in two minds that much was clear. He rejected her but hearing her speak of another man touching what was fated to him sent him hurling over the edge. Marking her was a punishment his wolf wanted her to endure, I only hoped they wouldn't come to regret it later on.

"Well, that's going to piss her off." Kai ran his hands over his face as he began to pace the tiny cell. It was in that moment the harsh realities of being an Alpha to a pack were beginning to set in. Sure, he had to deal with the aftermath of the attack that claimed the life of our mother, but he had our fathers to help him. This time all the decisions rested on his shoulders. Should he make the wrong decision going forward it would come back to bite him later. "Right when she wakes up there's no telling what will happen. Eric you can't be here when that happens. Without the magic playing with her she will be drawn to you like a fucking magnet and with the magic we have no idea what will happen." "So?"

"So... when your mark takes route, I say let her pain fester. If she feels it that is. Perhaps it will put things into perspective for her. She tells us what we need to know, and you take her back with you. She doesn't and we I'll leave her here until her heat comes and goes. If your techniques aren't working Roman, then I'm willing to bet this will break her. I'll have Henrik place a barrier on her cell preventing any unmated males access so don't worry." "Fuck me Kai you finally developed a brain." I couldn't help but poke fun at my brother as he wasn't usually any good in these kinds of situations. That being said I was proud of him. He sounded like a true Alpha.

"Well actually in a way it was Kaylee's idea. She felt the pull of the bond even being a demon. The magic has sped up Daphne's healing process that we know so think about it. It only makes sense for it to speed up her heat and effects of Eric's mark."

Leaving my brother to enact his plan I went to replace my mate and confront her about hers. The power she drew from me was only able to happen by being in the presence of one place. The derelict chapel was marked by our grandmother, an action that left a fraction of her power within its walls. Under normal circumstances only those of her blood should be able to enter but that was something she tweaked when the space became hers. Blood would no longer guarantee entry only her word of invitation would. It was a failsafe she put in place should her mate or son try to stop her.

When my mother killed her that part of her spell broke. Her death made it so only blood could enter making her spell basic. Freya shouldn't have been able to enter, but as she tapped into the mate bond and drew from me it gave her what she needed. My power also allowing her to summon the gateway.

Reaching the chapel in record time I noticed how this place never seemed to change. The run-down facade like a picture stuck in time. I was always creeped out by this place and still remembered the day Kai and I found it as kids. I could hear hushed whispers that claimed to be those of my blood that came before me. Those voices were still here egging me on to tap into the darkness I kept tightly away under lock and key. The closer I got to the open doors the louder they became.

Only this time instead of them trying with all their mite to tempt me into charging this place they screamed at me to leave.

"Ahhh" hearing Cleo's scream I threw every instinct I had ever known aside running into what could have easily been a trap.

At that point I didn't care. The devil himself could kill me just so long as he spared my mate and pup. Nothing but them mattered. As my foot passed the fresh hold my hands immediately went to my eyes as the brightness was too much. Within seconds the light was gone and everything around me once again encased in darkness. Removing my hands from my face my heart froze. A pentagram laced with blood sat chard on the ground. Getting to my knees I inhaled allowing fear to temporarily paralyse me as I knew the blood belonged to my mate. I was too late. Too fucking late. Cleo hadn't summoned Hades to here like my wolf and I originally thought. No. She had done something much fucking worse. She had stepped through the gateway and into the fiery pits of hell. She had spunk I'd give her that, but it was clear she hadn't thought things fully through. Facing her father in his realm was as good as signing her own death certificate. It was his home, his realm, and the source of all his power. There he would be unstoppable.
