Cleo's POV

As we entered the dining hall we were instantly met with silence. Nobody other than Layla and her fathers were present.

"Where is everyone?"

"Told to stay clear for today. We have enough to deal with without overhearing ears causing more issues."

"You think someone within the pack would cause trouble, even with the council here?" It wasn't that I didn't believe what Layla had said, but from a glance they seemed like a tight knit pack.

"Cleo things are never as they seem. News of the councils pending arrival will have likely stirred up memories in more than one pack member. Memories that took a lot to forget." Axel didn't even look at me as he spoke. "Because of what they did to Athena?"

"You really are hell bent on making this more difficult aren't you!" Slamming his fists on the table he pushed his plate of food away.

"Dad enough! She's asking because she doesn't know. She didn't intend to cause you any pain." Romans grip on my hand grew tighter as he once again clashed with his father. "Cleo, I'm sorry. The council being here isn't easy on any of us. Yes, both this and Gemstone packs hate them for what they did to Athena, but not for that alone. For years they have tried to break our family. My own father kept what my mother had done a secret from everyone including them. There's a rumour that because of his one action alone that the head of the council told my uncle of Roman's existence. That's why they refused to send a representative to Layla's first birthday. I think they knew an attack was going to happen and I think he thought my uncles pack of rogues would end my son's life. In their fucked-up views it would have been the perfect punishment. Them coming for my mate, now that was damn right wrong. In any other circumstance they would have punished her the moment she broke the law. But they didn't. Coming for someone after the statute of limitations is up, that's never been heard of. Not until they came for her. She paid for what she did to her sister mentally, she didn't need their help for that."

"I get that's why you guys hate them but what about the rest of the pack?"

"After Athena was arrested, before her 'striping' so to speak was carried out, they would pull our closest in and interrogate them. Those they took were never a part of it so when they couldn't give them the answers they seeked, they let them leave, but not before cutting them."

"They cut them. What, why?"

"That love is how they force them to remain within the law. They don't cut them with just any old knife. They use an ancient one that's believed to have been created by the moon goddess herself. The damage it can do is irreversible. It can break your mind, your spirit, and your body." The way Romans jaw twitched as he spoke about the weapon had me wondering if he himself had ever been subjected to its torture. Though while I pondered asking him, another idea formed in my mind.

"Do you think it will work on a god?"

"I can see those cogs turning, what are you thinking Cleo?" Layla's eyes remained on me while she bought her coffee to her lips.

"I know it's going to sound crazy, but what if it's possible. What if we can get that weapon and bind hellfire to it. That way when we do replace Hades, we can finally make him pay for everything he's done."

"You want to steal from the council of elders and somehow bind your bloodlines power. And everyone thought I was the crazy bitch in the family. I'll take all your apologies in writing." Everyone laughed as she went back to her breakfast. There was no denying my plan was crazy and held more risks than I cared to think about, but if we were able to pull it off, we could rid the world of a far greater evil.

As I took a seat and began to eat my breakfast my vision once again darkened. Voices of the two people I wanted dead more than anyone bounced around in my mind until images of them appeared. Kaylee jumped as she clapped her hands while my father held my partially shifted pup. My heart sunk seeing the tears roll down her beautiful face, her scream of pain like a dagger to the chest.

Seeing how her tiny body reshaped as her fur thinned out before disappearing had a mixture of pure fear and hatred course through me. She wasn't even a week old and had already been subjected to so much. "Cleo... Cleo... what is it." As the dining hall once again filled my sight everyone including Axel had worry on their faces.

"She's beginning to shift. They are forcing her to shift!"

"FUCK!" Releasing my hand Roman placed his hands behind his head and turned around.

"Then we don't have a choice, we must get that weapon and see if your theory can work. I pray that it does otherwise we will all lose our lives. Stealing from the council is no small thing."

"We have no choice. Their pup is of our blood. She deserves to live." The way Hector and Axel watched each other was one of pure love. A look that I hoped once all was said and done Roman and I would share.

"Then it happens today. I'll have Henrik try again with his tracking spells so we can at least have a location. We tried with your blood already Roman but now Cleo's here, hers should work. After all it will take a few weeks for her blood to leave your system."

"Alright, but what about the weapon? How will we know where to replace it?"

"It goes where the council go. Believe me there's no way they would leave something that valuable behind. The elders will be staying here within the pack house, in the guest quarters. We have a meeting in two hours which will give you, your one and only window. I'll warn you it will be protected. You're going to have to fight like hell to get it, and when you do, run because I won't be able to protect you if you're caught. One more thing, if that pup isn't in our possession before she shifts the council will order her death."

"Understood!" Roman and I were about to leave when Axel stood and called for us to stop.

"No Roman you don't understand. At this moment in time, you are the Moonlight Packs Alpha. You are required to be present in that meeting. If you're not there, not only will they know something is going on, but they will replace you altogether. Anything that happens after that won't matter because you will never get to have another input. I'm sorry Cleo, you're going to have to do it without him."

"I won't let her risk her life alone dad!"

"And she won't be." Turning back to the doors I couldn't believe my eyes.

"Daphne!" My words nothing more than a growl.

Roman's POV

"Layla get back!"

"No, we need to stop this!" Growling I knew she was right, but I didn't want her ending up hurt.

This was my fault. I should have told Cleo about Daphne no longer being locked up but with everything else going on it had skipped my mind. As Cleo and Daphne went head to head, we tried everything to stop them. Eric sat with a head wound having been thrown into the wall and a shelf landing on top of him.

The sounds of feral growls caused my eyes to snap back to my mate as I watched her shift into her large beast before grabbing her sister's tail. As she spun her around like a rag doll, I went to catch her only for her to knock me down in the process. With a speed that matched Freya's, Hazel recovered and launched for her sister.

“GET HENRIK IN HERE NOW!" Getting to my feet I shouted to an omega who had come in expecting to clean. Nodding her head, she dropped her bucket and ran.

The moment Henrik arrived he acted. Waving his hands in a series of motions he was quick to end their fighting. Though not in the way I'd expected. Freya had been frozen mid-air, her long sharp claws aiming for her sister's throat. Hazel however had been frozen partially shifted. Had Henrik not acted when he did there's a high chance Freya would have killed Daphne. Something I had no doubt would haunt her later.

Having calmed down we reconvened in Kai's... my office. For the discussion we were about to have we needed all the privacy we could get.

"So, you think that just because Eric marked her she's now suddenly trustworthy? I really didn't think you were quite that stupid!"

"Now love, that's enough. I'm fully aware of the magic that resides in her veins as well as the deal she made. In all accounts her deal to Hades has been fulfilled. My mother's life was that cost. I'm not going to say I trust her because I don't, but I trust you. I trust that if anything goes wrong you will not hesitate to put things right." My eyes darted to Daphne who sat looking at the floor with Eric standing behind her.

"We can trust her, if you didn't you wouldn't have released her."

"Eric shut up. You've known her for how long... Five minutes?"

"About the length of time it took you to jump into bed with your mate." I growled as Cleo and Daphne began to bicker.

"ENOUGH! Cleo our pup is running out of time. Pull yourselves together and listen will you!"

"Sorry."

"Sorry..."

"Thank you! Now here's what you're going to do..."
