Ganersam Volume 2
Chapter 14

“I demand an explanation.”

Those were my words after we entered Amber’s warehouse. Inside, the messy machines that were usually in the center of the room had been moved to the sides while Riko’s ship stood in the center. All three people inside looked at us in confusion.

Amber stared at me before letting out a smallah. She left the ship and walked toward one of the machines she put in the corner of her warehouse.

“This is ye ice cream machine. It turned out pretty great, despite slight delays. Me ask someone to deliver it quickly.”

She said while proudly patting the ice cream machine beside her.

“Thank you... wait, no, that’s not what I meant. Actually, I do mean thank you, but that’s not what I’m asking about. I thought today is a day off, so why are we departing now?”

Nia then approached her, and she whispered something into her senpai’s ear.

Amber let out anotherah.

“Well, me thought me ship isn’t cut out for the mission, so me contacted an old friend to help with upgrades.”

“What about you two?”

I directed my question to Riko and Amel, who were working on their ship.

“The ship’s flyable, for now. Similar to Amber, we contacted an old friend to help with upgrades. Unlike Amber’s, though, our friend lived in Misana.”

“I see.”

Riko closed the hatch he was working on, disconnected some wirings, and removed the equipment.

“Anyway, I think we’re ready to depart.”

He said as he returned the toolbox to Amber’s table.

He gave her a ‘thanks’ before retreating. Amber headed to the side of the building and pressed a button. Loud machine sounds filled the air. Mechanisms installed on top of the room opened up the warehouse’s roof.

“I don’t remember that being a feature.”

I slowly mumbled. Nia proudly nodded and said,

“That’s senpai for you.”

Riko and Amel waved to us. They entered Riko’s ship and started preparations. Riko’s ship roared to life and soon lifted off the warehouse. With it gone, the large warehouse felt strangely empty.

“Say... how fast do you work?”

Emma’s question probably came from the fact that the doors in the ceiling weren’t there when we purchased the warehouse. She could very well install it from that point to now, but it felt way too quick. I wasn’t paying much attention to the warehouse’s roof, either, but I’m pretty sure I never saw scaffolding or the like.

Emma’s question was answered with a smug face and shrugged shoulders. Amber locked the front doors and motioned us to head toward the rear of the warehouse. We went onto the grass patch where her ship was parked.

“Me lock me home first. Ye wait by the ship.”

She locked the warehouse and walked toward her cottage. While waiting for her, we stored our stuff on the rear of her ship. We didn’t bring much, only two suitcases for three people. I couldn’t be bothered to bring a lot of stuff, so I shared suitcases with Nia.

Well, all three of us didn’t bring much stuff, even Emma’s suitcase is filled mostly with her weapons.

After a while, Amber walked back to us, bringing a small bag with her. She threw her bag into the storage compartment, before examining us closely.

“Ye ready?”

“Yes.”

We then entered the ship. Nia helped Amber with starting the ship, while Amber walked around the outside to make sure everything was fine. Considering the condition of the ship, that walkaround was probably a lot more important than usual. She then entered and headed straight to the cockpit.

She threw us two pillows from the front.

“Use that. Us will fly for a while.”

Amber’s ship only has 2 seats in the cockpit. In the previous, relatively short flight, our butts do hurt slightly from sitting on the metal surface of the cargo hold. If it got too bad, we could stand up, but if the flight took a lot more time, then constantly standing would be a lot more tiring.

“How long will we be flying for?”

“Here me go, make sure ye hang on.”

Without answering my question, Amber pushed the throttle and we lifted off.

My question regarding the duration would soon be answered. While starships in this world are a lot faster compared to normal planes, it wasn’t traveling at light speed, making the ‘star’ in ‘starship’ a bit pointless.

The flight took us around two and a half-hour, traveling a distance of around 3000 km. Amber said starship ships differ from one to another, depending on the engine type of the ship. We are pretty unlucky, as she said hers have one of the slower ones. Both Emma and I agree on one thing, though, we’re flying back on Riko’s ship instead of Amber’s.

But...

“Wow...”

That butt pain paid off when we approached Kalagai. Our approach to Kalagai had one of the best scenery I have ever seen. Mountains filled with green vegetation filled our view, extending beyond the horizon. It gave us an astonishing view as we flew low above Kalagai.

Kalagai was a unique town located on top of the mountains. It was divided into two sectors, the east, and the west, by a large river running through the center of the town. The town looked like a traditional Japanese village, but unlike normal villages, its floors were supported by massive concrete pillars sprouting from the mountainside.

Its two sectors were connected by two large bridges and several smaller ones that we had trouble counting due to our distance. The river was large, it had a width of roughly 80 meters across.

Not far north of the town, massive walls could be seen towering above the mountaintops, similar to how the Great Wall of China looked, but it had a grayish color and was taller.

Amber then approached a large pad behind one of the buildings.

“Qorsen’s Ships and Repairs’, said the sign on the building. The building was formed by a large hangar enough to store three ships of Amber’s size at the same time. We landed on the leftmost pad. A short man with a noteworthy white beard approached us.

Amber shuts down her ship and we all got off.

“Amber! It’s been a while! Oh, you brought another cademon with you too!”

The man said with a large grin on her face. Like the two girls, he had cat ears too. Probably also a cademon.

“It’s been a while, Qorsen. How are ye doing?”

“I’m great, thank you.”

Amber then introduced us all.

The gentleman that greeted us was called Qorsen, and as the sign said, he owned this workshop. He was actually an abandoned cademon, who sided with us humans, similar to Miss Julia.

“By the way, I’ve got all the things you’ve requested, so follow me!”

He said as he walked toward the warehouse.

Qorsen led us to a waiting room. He had quite the discussion with Amber regarding the upgrades, which consist of cloaking devices, turrets, and shield upgrades. He then led us to an inn that his friend managed, well by us I mean Emma and me. Amber and Nia stayed behind to help with the work on her ship.

“Now what?”

I shouldn’t be surprised, but since the two of us are the only ones that weren’t sleeping at the hangar, they rented a single room for us.

“I also need to meet someone, remember?”

“Ah, alright. Don’t go to some weird alleyway.”

I said as I headed for the bed. As I was about to lump myself onto its white soft sheet, I could feel a pull on my shirt.

“You’re coming with me.”

“Why?”

Emma didn’t answer my question and just dragged me out.
