10 Years Later (Millie)

I looked down at the basketball court, the excitement buzzing through my body as my Dad shouted next to me.

"Come on Ronan!" He yelled, making me frown as I slapped my palms over my ears.

"Daddy, you just yelled in my ear!" I chastised him as I heard Mom suddenly speak up.

"Babe, remember we are in a middle school gym..Go Ro you got it Yes! Yes!" My mom began while cutting herself off and shouting down at the court watching my brother make a shot that went into the net smoothly.

I just put my hand on my face and shook my head..I can't take these two anywhere.

I peeked down at the court, seeing my brother smiling as he waved up at us but my eyes were quickly drawn to someone else.

Adrian Dawson, my brother's best friend. His black hair and sharp blue eyes darted to my brother as he gave him a high-five.

"Hey bumblebee, let's go get some snacks." My Grandpa AL said while taking my hand.

"Wait, where are you going?" My dad asked, his hand reaching for me as I looked up at him. He was always so protective over me..like a big papa bear.

"Food daddy, you want some?" I asked making him glance towards Grandpa as he smiled at him.

"I told you he would be screwed when we found out Millie was a girl." My uncle Jack chimed in from below. He was holding my cousin Bonnie who just turned three. Penny was down by the court, she was on the school's cheer team and was rooting Ronan on. My dad just shot Uncle Jack a look that I have seen all too often..they might act like they don't like each other, but when Mommy got sick I saw how much they really loved one another.

Mommy is doing much better now, and Daddy is even more protective over us all.

"She will be fine Asher, come here." My mom said, placing her hand on Daddy's chest as she reached up on her toes and gave him a kiss..

I couldn't help but giggle as my grandpa started pulling me with him.

"I think Uncle Carson and Aunt Jackie just got here with Jax and Luca, let's go show them where we are." Grandpa explained, his hand squeezing mine as he helped me down the bleachers..I swear I could feel Daddy's eyes on me the whole way. Maybe he is hangry..I should get him a hotdog.

Jax and Luca were the same age as me, they were twins and we even went to the same school. They are like my brothers.

We live in Kentville, we just moved back two years ago after Daddy retired. He said he was ready to bring us back home..plus with Mommy getting sick, he wanted to make her comfortable and happy.

I guess it really did because now she is better and Daddy is happy too, he doesn't cry anymore like before.

We walked out towards the concession stand, the small line making us stop as I turned to look up at Grandpa.

"Where's Grandma?" I asked, I loved Grandma Melody, she always cut my hair and even took me to the movies.

"She had to go help Grandpa Scott and Grandma Tina, they are setting up the party for your mom. It's a secret though, don't forget." He explained, giving me a wink as I nodded my head and couldn't help but bounce up and down. Today is Mommy's birthday and Aunty Mack is flying in to surprise her. She is a famous movie star and always brings us lots of gifts when she visits. She even takes me to get my nails done sometimes, when Daddy lets her that is. We ordered our food and Grandpa lifted me on his back, giving me a ride as we waited for Uncle Carson to come.

I waved happily at Jax and Luca before hopping down and running back towards the court as we came just in time. The gym was filled with shouts and cheers..mostly from Mom and Dad as I watched Ro pass the ball to Adrian.

I felt my heart begin to race as he ran it to the hoop, my hands clapping together as he dodged another player and made the shot, the ball flying in the air before the swish sound filled the room and the buzzer sounded. He made the shot and they won the first half! "Yay!!" I shouted and saw my brother running over towards me, circling his arms around me, lifting me into a big hug.

"We are going to win this one Mil, mark my words." He said before setting me back down and running towards the locker room.

We brought the food up to Daddy and he seemed to cheer up as soon as he saw it.

I couldn't help but peek down at the court all game..my eyes following Adrian as he passed the ball to my brother, they have known each other for two years but act like it's been since they were born.

I can't help but feel my heart race when I look at him, sadly he seems to be only looking towards my cousin Penny.

Her blonde hair and blue eyes caught mine just as she waved towards me happily.

I can't blame Adrian though Penny was perfect, she was sweet and kind..well, Uncle Jack calls her a trouble maker but I think she takes after him.

I saw my Aunt Lacey walking in as she waved towards us before kissing Uncle Jack on the cheek and taking Bonnie.

"Sorry, I was just talking to my brother." She said, her smile so warm and bright. I would say she is the second most beautiful lady in the world. My mom takes first place, and my daddy says I look just like her, besides the grey eyes like his.

I love my big family and I wouldn't trade them for the whole world.

"Come on Millie, let's go home and show Mommy her surprise." My dad whispered in my ear, his arms circling around me as he lifted me up and started carrying me.

"Promise me you will always stay this small and sweet baby girl. That you will always stay with Daddy and Mommy forever." He said, tickling my side as I couldn't help but laugh.

"But I want to meet my prince charming like mommy met you." I said, making Daddy frown as he shook his head no.

"Only when you're twenty-five..and I get to choose him." He stated, making Mom hit his arm and give him a stern look.

"You can't choose who she loves Asher.." She said matter of fact and right as she said that Adrian walked out with Ro, a big smile on his face and his blue eyes glancing towards me.. Yeah.. I guess you can't.
