I’m hurting him all over again, but I’m panicking. Things are moving too fast. He can’t just make thesedecisions for me. I’m an adult and this isn’t right. You can’t just make these decisions alone, you’resupposed to discuss them, not act like a caveman and just- take me away!

This isn’t a fairytale! It’s real life!

I’m a doctor, for god’s sake. I have a job that I need to be close to in case I’m called in! What if nextmonth he simply decides to move somewhere else? Will he expect me to leave my job?

I get it; I get why he’s doing this, but… this isn’t the way to go about it

Besides, what if Zaia shows up again or how do I tell them that I’ve moved and why? Although I dothink they need to do something about the Arkan.

Maybe we should talk to Zaia, Sebastian, and Atticus.

I stare down at Jai’s image, and with rushing guilt, realise I’m being selfish…

I slide his picture out of the frame and place it aside before I open the door that I was struggling to openwhen the box fell. It reveals a gorgeous large room.

It’s definitely the master bedroom, that much I can tell, but still, I move to the door beside it, wanting tosee the rest. This one leads to a bathroom, and the third door leads to a smaller bedroom with a singlebed.

Hearing his footsteps, I turn as he walks in and carries the boxes into the master bedroom.

“Is the room ok?” he asks, and I close my eyes, trying not to let guilt or frustration consume me.

“Yeah… it is…” I say, looking down.

The place is nice… and something tells me he did consider me before choosing it.

He places the boxes down and I think he’s about to walk out when he stops in front of me, and places asingle finger under my chin forcing me to look up into his eyes.

He doesn’t say anything, simply searching my eyes for something, but as to what he’s looking for, Ihave no idea….

My cheeks burn as I gaze into his eyes.

“I do understand,” I respond firmly.

“You don’t. Because if you did, you’ll realise that if last night they attacked, I wouldn’t have been able toprotect you. That I was too weak to have done much… The night you were almost raped, what if Iwasn’t there?”

His words ring in my mind as he continues.

“I know you had this little plan set up about your new fresh start, but we are werewolves, Valerie. Wehave to adapt to our surroundings and the situation. The Arkan are out there to kill us, to put an end tous. They are a thousand times worse than the sable.” His deep husky voice thrums through me, but Igrapple to focus on his words and not his voice. “Baby girl, are you listening?”

“Yes!” I say, shaking my head to clear it. He doesn’t look like he believes me, hist brow slightly furrowedbefore he nods.

I fall silent, looking away as I ponder on his words.

I do get it… “Then we need to tell them, Atticus, Sebastian, Zaia, they head the biggest packs, they arethe ones who can take this up with the government.”

“Yeah, they are.

“But I wonder if they even know how serious the threat is…”

“I doubt it… because they’re picking off the lone wolves first. They have no idea. I mean… did you tellZaia what almost happened to you?”

I shudder at the memory, instinctively leaning into him, and he releases my chin. instead, wrapping hisarms around my waist.

“I get it… so… I’ll try to be a little more alert and understanding, but can you at least try to communicatea little better? I’m not used to this.” I say softly, running my fingers up the curves of his hard–muscledbiceps.
