Celeste’s POV

“The rogues are attacking.” Xavier’s words made my breath catch in my throat. I had already known it was happening but it still scares me. I brought one of my hands up and grabbed onto his shirt, trying to pull myself closer. I wanted, needed, to be near him right now. I was terrified and he was the person who could make me feel safe.

“Why?” The question came from Zay. I stared at her. Of course she didn’t know anything.

“I don’t know,” Xavier lied. I knew that he knew at least something but he didn’t know everything in details. “What I do know is that I need you to keep Celeste here and protect her personally. You are as good of a fighter as your father when he was still with us and you could easily challenge your brother. If one of them managed to get passed all of the security that is set up in here then I know you and Kaleshia could protect her.”

I tightened my grip on his shirt. I didn’t want him to leave me to fight. I knew he could get hurt and I couldn’t stand that thought. Ancillary whined at the thought.

“Fine but I swear to the goddess that if you don’t repay me by protecting my brother out there, then I will kill you.” I knew that her brother was Jared. Their scents were similar enough that I could tell.

“Then we have a deal.” Xavier turned his attention from her to me. “I’ll see you in a bit little one.” I nodded and he leaned down, lightly brushing his lips across mine.

“Promise?” I needed him to promise me that he would come back. I know the things that rogues have done. They destroyed my pack, killed my parents, and took my best friend away from me.

“I promise.” I smiled weakly at him and he let go of me. I watched him leave the room, my heart thudding louder for each step he took away.

As soon as the door closed, Zay locked it and then went to lock the window that was in the office. It was a small window, probably just to help air out the room, but she locked it anyway. Kaleshia mumbled something and touched the door, a glowing blue spreading over it. My eyes widened in amazement. She did the same to the window. Zay then moved her desk to reveal a small red button. She looked back at Kaleshia and waited for her to finish what she was doing to the window before she pressed it.

I jumped as every wall started to get covered in what looked to be some kind of metal. It came down from the ceiling and kept going until it reached the ground. I looked up to see the same thing was happening to the ceiling only it came from the left to the right side of the ceiling.

“What just happened?” The question slipped out of my mouth as soon as it finished. The entire room now looked as if the walls were metal, which I guessed they were.

“It’s a security measure. If there was someone in here seriously hurt, and we couldn’t get them to safety we would need a way to protect them. So this was built. But right now it is how we are going to protect you. And if something happens to the pack house, there is a secret passage in the floorboards,” Zay said with a smile. She seemed proud of it.

“How long are we going to be in here?” I started to tug on my sleeves.

“I don’t know. As soon as Xavier mind links me that it’s safe, then we can go, but I might need your help with any injured.” I nodded but didn’t look up from my sleeves. “He will be alright. He is strong enough and has taken on more than this before.” I looked up at her, hope in my eyes.

“Are you sure?”

“Positive.” I laid down on the bed, trying to think of any distractions. I looked around the room and saw Zay and Kaleshia sitting on a kind of bench that I have never noticed before. They were holding hands and whispering things to each other, making them both smile. Ancillary whined and I felt my heart being squeezed. I wanted Xavier to be here.

I don’t know how long I laid there, trying to think of anything that could distract me from the thoughts of Xavier being hurt, before Zay started to shake my shoulder. I looked around. The metal walls and ceiling were gone and Kaleshia was in the process of removing the blue stuff from the door and window.

I got up and winced at my stiff shoulder. How long was I laying in that position? My eyes widened. It must be over.

“Is he okay?” Zay smiles with a nod.

“He’s fine. He’ll meet us outside. There were only a few injured and Xavier said it’s not that bad. Grab a kit,” she pointed to a shelf full of kits, “and we can deal with all of them out there.” I nodded, and go to grab a kit. I open it to see inside there are bandages, the thread for stitches, a few needles, and everything for possible sterilization.

Zay, Kaleshia, and I walk out of the room and out of the pack house. As soon as I spot Xavier I run to him, ignoring everything else that is going on. He saw me and sighed in relief, wrapping his arms around me when I got to him. I pulled myself closer to his n***d chest, noticing that he had b***d on himself. I tensed and pulled away slightly.

“Is that-” I couldn’t say it.

“No, it’s not. Don’t worry little one.” I nodded and pulled myself closer to him again. He kissed the top of my head and pulled away from me. “Why don’t you go help Zay while I go get cleaned up. I’ll see you in ten, twenty minutes top.” I nodded and walked towards Zay, no longer worried for Xavier.

“Celeste!” I looked at Zay, who was bandaging up a guy’s leg that would probably heal in a day or two, and walked closer to her. “Go to the other side of the pack house. There might be more injured.” I nodded.

As I walked I took notice of everything that was going on. Everyone was with their mates or family, holding each other tightly. Every here and there the ground would be covered in b***d but I don’t think it was from anyone in the pack. The worst thing I saw was a dead rogue or two, making me cringe in disgust. I got towards the back of the pack house there was a few people and one or two injured. I walked up to the first one and stitched up a few deep cuts he had and moved onto the next one. He had only needed a bandage.

I dusted off my jeans and walked back to the pack house.

What happened to the rest of the rogues? If there weren’t that many dead bodies and barely anyone was injured then what happened to the rest of the rogues? There was definitely not only a few of them.

I stopped when I saw a familiar little ginger haired girl standing towards the trees.

“Delian? What are you doing over there?” She looked back at me and smiled. She turned back around and skipped off into the woods. My eyes widened. What was she doing? I quickly opened the kit and stuffed some bandages and alcohol pads into my pocket just in case. I then ran off into the woods, running after Delian and dropping the rest of the kit.

“Delian, stop running!” I called after her and she did. I caught up to her and breathed a sigh of relief. I also took in a few deep breaths before looking at her. I crouched down in front of her and put my hands on her shoulder. “Are you okay?” I scanned her up and down for any injuries and sighed in relief when I didn’t see any. “What were you thinking? You could have gotten seriously hurt!” Her eyes widened and filled with tears.

“I’m sorry Luna, they said they would hurt Mommy if I didn’t get you out here.” My eyebrows scrunched together in confusion.

“What are you talking about?” She didn’t answer me and I was about to pick her up so we could go back to the pack house when there was a huge pain in my head. I bit my tongue and looked over my shoulder. Behind me there was a bald man with black eyes, like Kaleshia, but black instead of blue, and a rock in his hand. It was covered in a red liquid. B***d. My b***d.

He raised the rock and smashed it over my temple making me fall to the ground. Pain exploded in my head and I let out a pain filled cry. I looked at Delian as black starting to cloud my vision.

“Run,” I whispered to her as I gave myself up to the darkness.
