Chapter Five
Flint called Joshua from the road. The elder agreed to a meeting and told them to stop by before going to the country house for dinner. Once the Alpha parked the car in the driveway, he felt his wolf. He was getting restless and Flint could tell that his mate's beast shared that feeling.
Eve looked at the sky. They had a few hours before the meeting with Elijah and her wolf was spinning in circles within her. She looked at her mate with expressive eyes and he smiled at her. Flint silently pulled the shirt over his head and tossed it in the SUV. The Luna giggled happily before she too stripped herself of her clothing.
Once they stood naked, they walked into the side yard. The estate was large and had more open ground than the country estate they lived in before Selena's disappearance. In a matter of moments, the animals burst forth in a whirlwind of snapping bones and erupting fur.
Instead of running toward the tree line immediately, the pair hesitated. The she-wolf looked over her mate. His white fur always seemed to illuminate the emerald green of his eyes. The power that was constantly radiating from him seemed ten fold in his animal form. He carried such an air of authority that even after seeing him like this countless times, both Eve and her wolf were in awe of him.
The Alpha, too, examined his mate. Her black fur was speckled down her spine and across her chest. The electric blue in her eyes reminded him of their first meeting. They had barreled into one another during the Calling. Her howl carried him toward her like a magnet but when he glimpsed her... His entire world stopped moving.
The she-wolf didn't give her mate time to revel in his thoughts. She rushed passed him, brushing by his side. However, the Alpha was never one to lag behind. He caught up with her effortlessly. Eve glanced over her shoulder and, seeing that her mate was approaching quickly, she dove through a thicket and bounced around a large tree.
Are you running, little thing? I can't tell. The Alpha's gruff animal voice entered her mind playfully.
Because I'm not running... The she-wolf replied. I'm winning!
She pounced over the massive tree root in front of her. She landed on Flint, knocking them both down a small hill. Eve leapt to her feet and shook the dirt from her fur.
You think that's winning? Her mate's mocking laughter filled her thoughts.
Her eyes snapped to the place where the Alpha had landed. He was no where to be seen. She paced around in a small circle, looking for a track or trail to indicate where her mate had gone. Again, Flint's beast laughed in her mind as if he were amused. As if he could see her...
Eve looked up but she didn't have enough time to bolt before her mate jumped onto the trunk above her, rebounding in her direction. She was knocked off her feet and she slid to a stop a couple of feet away. Sitting up in the leaves, she again shook out her ears.
Oh, you- The she-beast ran toward him, her mind set on revenge.
Flint's wolf simply laughed in her mind before letting her get just close enough to pin her with his body weight.
You were saying, little thing? The Alpha probed as he inhaled her scent.
She didn't respond. She didn't have to. Flint's wolf was weighing down upon his mate. His smell surrounded her. It took a only fraction of a second before the Alpha knew what she was craving, and as soon as he was aware; he gave himself to her.
A few minutes later, the wolves separated and ran toward the house. They curled up in the sun on the side lawn. Neither wolf felt ready to give their human halves control again. The sounds of nature that filled the environment eased them and cleared their minds.
We can feel the power of the pup in you. It's growing. The Alpha rested his head across her back.
We know. We can feel it. The she-wolf answered calmly.
Eve snuggled closer to his side, forcing him to lift his head. Flint's wolf sighed contentedly, caressing her muzzle with his own.
You are the moon and the stars to me. The Luna's voice crossed his thoughts like a sweet, warm wind.
Little thing... Her mate moved even closer to her.
The heat of the sun quickly lulled all thoughts from their minds. Eve closed her eyes contentedly as time began to move more and more slowly. After an indeterminate amount of time, the she-wolf was stirred awake by someone's familiar, scored fingers running through her fur. She opened her eyes to see Flint looking at her in his human form. His bare body was still holding her furry one to his torso.
"We have to go see Joshua." He stated quietly.
The Luna took in a deep breath before releasing it in exasperation. Flint chuckled at her before placing a kiss between her deep, cyan blue eyes. She shifted back to her human form reluctantly as her mate stood away from her. In a matter of moments, Eve straightened up and dusted off her dirty feet.
"Do we have time for a quick shower first?" She probed as she took his hand.
"If we hurry." Flint nodded.
After the world's quickest shower, Eve and Flint got dressed for dinner at the country house with Elijah. The Luna finished putting on her make-up before hesitating, and looking over her outfit choice again. She was deep in thought. Ever since his mate left the pack, Elijah had been different. Not softer... Yet, somehow more detached.
She took a deep breath to gather her thoughts before heading to the car. The drive was calm. After allowing their wolves to spend some time together, it was clear the beasts were at peace. Twenty minutes later, they pulled into the driveway of the Joshua's cottage.
