The woman that stood before him was cruel. He could feel it in his bones. Her pitch black hair and piercing black eyes only proved to validate this.

“You, and your kin, will forever be monsters of the night,” I watched her ruby lips twist into a wicked smile; “this creature will reflect your inner beast and its thirst for blood will grow with the cycle of the moon.” Her tongue licked her lips.

“What have I done to deserve such a punishment as this?” the man asked as he looked away from the witch before him.

“Have you forgotten? You made a deal, to save your wife, yet, you thought you could go back on your word,” she took a step closer, her gown flowed across the leaf covered ground, the crimson fabric, trailing behind her.

“I do not take kindly to those who do such thing,” he was frozen in place. By her power or fear, he was not sure, “and this is my punishment for breaking your vow,”

She placed a single finger between his eyes. A dark shadow seemed to flow around her arm and up towards his face.

The twister of black mist engulfed him until he could see nothing before him. He couldn’t struggle as it spun faster and faster.

In an instant the smoke shot into his skin, like small needles filleting down to his bones.

Dread tore through his body as he heard the first bone crack, followed by another.

“Heed my warning, beast,” the witch sneered at the creature that now stood in place of the man.

“If a human is bitten, by one of you or your kin, and does not die,” she stooped down to look him directly in the eye with her black orders, “they will become just like you,”

Dread filled his body once more.

What had he done?
