*Michael*

Shelby squeezed my hand tightly when the wheels hit the tarmac. I could tell that flying made her nervous, so I reached out and placed my hand on her thigh. She looked up at me with a weak smile which I returned.

“You are absolutely going to love this resort. I stayed here on business, and since we started dating, I have been thinking about how much you would enjoy it here,” I said, hoping to distract her from the jet landing.

“I can’t wait to see it. Can we explore the island a little tomorrow? I have always wanted to visit Hawaii. The wildlife here is so diverse. I really hope we get a chance to see some in the wild,” she said.

I wasn’t sure if she realized that the jet had fully landed and was pulling into the hangar.

“We can do whatever you like tomorrow. I know a guy who funds a bird sanctuary here; maybe we could stop in if you are interested.”

“That sounds amazing,” Shelby said with a bright smile.

With the plane on the ground, I stood up and held out my hand to her. “Are you ready?” I asked.

She reached out and grabbed my hand, and I helped her to her feet; I could see the anxiety had drained away from her face as she smiled at me freely.

When we were off the coast of Florida, the chance of seeing dolphins in the wild had melted away all of Shelby’s fear of being on a jet ski. I knew telling her about the bird sanctuary would likely have the same effect.

“I think that sounds like a perfect way to spend the day,” Shelby said, still holding my hand.

As soon as the door to the cabin opened, the sweet smell of the salty air hit me. I looked over at Shelby; her eyelids had fluttered halfway shut, clearly enjoying the fresh air, and I assumed the solid ground under her feet.

“I had a convertible sent over. I figured since it is such a warm night here, we could enjoy the fresh air on our drive to the resort,” I said as the yellow convertible sports car pulled up in front of us.

The driver got out and opened the passenger door for Shelby; I held onto her hand until she was situated in her seat.

The driver handed me the keys, and I slipped into the driver’s seat easily, excited to be behind the wheel again. I had been so busy with work in the past few months that I always used the time in the car to prepare for the next meeting while someone else drove.

“The stars are amazing here,” Shelby said, her head resting back on the headrest, staring up into the dark sky.

“Beautiful isn’t it,” I said, staring at her rather than the stars.

We drove down a winding road lined with palm trees and other greenery as far as we could see. It was difficult to hear each other over the wind in the car, but that didn’t stop Shelby from animatedly pointing at everything that caught her attention.

Windswept and exhausted, we pulled up to the private resort, which consisted of numerous spas, outdoor theaters, and restaurants, all situated on perfect white sand beaches.

There were also jet skis I was dying to take Shelby on again to see if her driving skills had improved any from the last time.

By the time we arrived at our private cabana, our bags were there waiting for us at the end of a king-size bed in the middle of the room.

The wood walls and thatch roof are accented perfectly by turquoise tropical decor. Gauzy white curtains fluttered in the breeze coming from each of the large open windows.

Shelby walked through the suite, slowly turning, a small smile etched on the edges of her lips.

“What do you think?” I asked.

“I feel like a Hawaiian princess!” she exclaimed.

“That was the idea,” I said with a chuckle.

“You can see right down to the ocean floor,” Shelby squealed as a small school of brightly colored fish swam directly under her feet.

“Just wait until you see the infinity pool on the deck or the sauna in the bathroom,” I responded; the accommodations afforded every luxury necessary to make this week perfect.

“You are spoiling me, Michael.”

“You deserve every bit of it and more,” I said, enjoying the sparkle in her eyes as she took in every inch of the room.

“Would you like to head out to the private beach? I think I saw two lounge chairs calling our names. We could take a bottle of champagne out with us and enjoy the stars.”

“You are so romantic,” Shelby said with a smile. She turned to me and kissed me softly before grabbing my hand and urging me to lead the way.

The lounge chairs sat perfectly situated under two palm trees right at the edge of the water. The ocean waves lapped at the sand next to us.

Shelby settled into the chair next to me scooping her feet to one side and leaning back to watch the night sky. A small sigh escaped her lips.

“Is everything alright?” I asked.

“I am just content. It has been so long since we have had the time to really focus on each other. It is nice to be alone with you, and this place is like a dream. I can’t wait to see it in the daylight. I bet it is breathtaking.”

“We can spend the day sightseeing if you’d like,” I offered.

“I would love that. But, I am afraid that the more I see of the island, the harder it will be for me to leave,” Shelby said, turning on her side to face me with a grin.

“That’s fine with me,” I teased. “We can stay here forever if you want. I will buy you a cute little bungalow, we could eat our weight in fresh pineapple, and we could swim with the fish every day.”

Shelby smiled and laughed slightly. I wasn’t sure if she knew I was serious. I would do anything to make her happy.

“It is a little tempting, but I have law school waiting, and you have a very large corporation to run,” she responded.

“Well, how about as soon as you are done with law school?” I asked and turned on my side to meet her gaze.

“Deal!” she said, and we both ended up laughing.

“It really is nice to think about what life will be like after I graduate. Not necessarily living in a bungalow. But it would feel like a dream just living in the same city as you for a change,” she said as she played with the ribbon holding the cushion to the lounge chair.

“I know it seems hard right now, Shelby, but it is only temporary. Would you want to move back to New York after you graduate?” I asked.

I was slightly nervous about her answer. We had not talked this seriously about what our relationship would look like in the future. I knew my own feelings about the future, but she had yet to share hers with me.

“I enjoyed my time in New York, and if I found a good job I would definitely move back,” she responded simply.

“I feel like there is a ‘but’ missing in that sentence,” I prodded.

“Honestly, I would love to experience a new place. I have spent my time in New York, and I think by the time I graduate, I will be ready for a new adventure,” she admitted sheepishly.

“Would you like a partner on this new adventure?” I looked at her earnestly, hoping she could see how much I wanted to be that partner.

“I was hoping you would like to join me, but I was afraid it would be too much to ask,” Shelby admitted as her cheeks flushed under my gaze.

“Honey, you realize I can run my corporation from just about anywhere in the world? You pick the place, and we will go together. If I were to sway you in any way, I am partial to warmer climates,” I said the last bit with a teasing smile.

Shelby sat up in her chair and stared at me, suddenly very serious.

“Do you mean that?” she asked.

“Yes, I mean it. I mean, I will tolerate the cold if that is what you really want, but…”

She broke out into a smile then and lightly swatted my arm.

“Not that! You would really move with me?”

“There is no other answer but yes, Shelby. I see my future with you,” I reached across the space between our chairs and grabbed her hands, cradling them in mine.

“The only future I see is with you, too,” Shelby admitted.

I reached out and pushed a lock of hair behind her ear, then leaned over and brushed my lips against hers. She wrapped her arms around my neck pulling me closer to her and kissing me more intensely.

We slowly pulled away from each other, each slightly out of breath, and smiled. Her smile left me weak in the knees.

She pulled me down further and whispered in my ear, “Take me inside.”

She kissed my neck then, trailing her hands through my hair and before she could say anything, I swept her into my arms. She eagerly wrapped her legs around my waist.

I laid her back on the bed gently and kissed her again, our tongues dancing in each other’s mouths. She unbuttoned my shirt and was working on my belt when I sat up on my knees, looking down at her.

She grinned up at me as I threw the shirt on the ground before standing just off the bed to remove my pants and boxers.

Never taking her eyes off me, she took her clothes off throwing them on the floor as well. She moved to the edge of the bed on her knees as I stood over her and left a trail of k****s down my chest and stomach.

My e******n grew even more as she smiled up at me teasingly. I gently pushed her back on the bed. “Let your legs hang over the side,” I said as I knelt down.

She obeyed eagerly, letting her legs fall apart so that I could see the wetness that was waiting for me. I quickly grabbed a condom and she sat up, grabbing it from me before I could put it on.

“Let me,” she said. I stood and she slowly rolled the condom down my member. I quivered under her touch and couldn’t contain myself any longer.

I pushed her back on the bed as I grabbed her legs and held them around my waist before pushing inside her with an eagerness that surprised even me.

She gasped and cried out in pleasure. I held her lower body off the bed with one hand while my other rubbed her cl*t as I thrust in and out of her.

“F*ck, Michael,” she practically screamed as her body shook with an o****m. I could feel her pulsating around me and it drove me on even more.

I thrust in and out of her quickly and with force, and felt yet another o****m leaking out around my e******n.

That thought alone was enough to send me over the edge and with a final thrust, I filled her core and collapsed on top of her.

Shelby stirred slightly as I shifted my weight out of bed, but she didn’t wake. My bare feet were quiet against the wood floor, and I was thankful for the soft glow from the moon to guide me out to the back deck without disturbing Shelby.

I slipped my hand into my pocket and found the small velvet box concealed there. I stared out over the ocean, fidgeting with the box. I couldn’t help but think of the first time I met Shelby on the yacht. Similar to now, I spent that night staring out at the ocean.

I turned my back to the waves and leaned against the railing. I could just make out Shelby’s sleeping form in the bed. I smiled to myself and spun the box a few more times in my hand for luck.

It amazed me that even though I had been carrying it around with me for weeks, it suddenly felt so much heavier now that she was really here.

I popped the box open and stared proudly at what it contained. My heart fluttered in anticipation.

“No matter what, you are the one,” I whispered to the beauty sleeping in my bed.
