The Alpha King’s Ugly Bride Chapter 29

Mia flipped the book in her hand to page seventeen, and she almost started reading when her door flew open and the devil emerged inside, with a face ripped so red Mia almost feared it'll explode.

The ring was still on his finger, but somehow he looked as furious as ever. Perhaps it wasn't as powerful as everyone thought, or Xavier's fury was that intense.

He stormed towards her, but Mia remained, unmoved. "What in the name of all mystical creations do you think you're doing?" he growled at her.

"Reading," she simply replied, her insolent boldness stopping him in his tracks, which was still a few feet away from her.

He laughed, but not a merry laugh. It was filled with the rage coursing on the inside, coming to play on the outside.

"I should have killed you. I should have asked those guards to kill you and throw your sorry body into the ocean." He ran his furry shaky hand through his hair, tugging hard on it, an attempt he made to channel his rage. "I should have told everyone else you eloped with your lover like I once thought through. I thought your sorry life was worth saving. Turns out it f*****g isn't!"

She dropped the book and folded her arms, looking unaffected. "Is there something you want to say? Or are you going to just stand there and vent?"

His teeth gritted, and his eyes fluttered. With this amount of rage coursing through his veins, he would have transformed into a werewolf and attacked her, if the ring wasn't taming him. It kept him in human form and a part of him hated that. He was this close to grabbing her by the neck and snuffing the light out, but he couldn't. His father waited for her at the Palace Hall, and she had to appear perfect and presentable.

"Why aren't you out in the throne room?" he asks.

"You commanded me to stay in my room until you said otherwise this morning, and that's just what I'm doing." How she had kept a steady voice so far still came as a shock to her.

"And of all the days, you decided to religiously follow my command today?"

"The duty of a good queen is to her king." she was having more fun than she thought was possible and it was at the alpha king's expense.

In a blink, Xavier stood before her, reached down and grabbed her by the upper arm. He yanked her onto her feet, dragging her to the bed where the silver gown lay.

"You're hurting me!" she told him, hissing out in pain from his unbearable grip.

"And you just disgraced me before Robb Ainsworth, the alpha of alphas. I think we are even. Pick up your f*****g dress."

She winced and glared at him, but did as she was told, reaching out and picking up the silver gown.

"Put it on," he commanded and released his grip on her and took a step back. He, however, didn't turn away and his eyes watched her.

Mia's hand tightly wrapped around her arm and softly she massaged it to give it a little relief.

All this didn't sit well with Xavier who impatiently ran his fingers through his hair.

"Aren't you going to give me the room or at least turn around so I can get ready?"

"No!" he growled.

Her hand balled into a fist at his answer, but perhaps she had played her game to the extreme tonight and it was his turn.

She turned away from him and her hand flew up to loosen the ropes of the gown she had on, but her hand didn't reach it. She tried with both hands, but alas, her hands were too short. This meant she needed help, and Xavier was the only one here with her. She knew she had to ask for help because trying to do it on her own was a pathetic try at best, but she felt too prideful and stubborn to ask.

She was just about to open her mouth when she felt Xavier's hands on her upper back, where the ropes of the gown were, and he untied them. Once done, he pulled the ropes out of each tiny gap, releasing the grip they had on her.

She bit her lips when his hand came down to her lower back, his careless but soft touches sent shivers down her spine. He undid every gap on the gown with ease, his expertise in this field prominent.

The ropes fell to the floor beside her, which meant he had finished undoing them, but neither of them made moves to move away immediately. For a second, Mia thought she felt the light touch of the alpha king on her lower back before he cleared his throat and pulled away.

She let the scarlet robe fall, and stepped out of it, naked, to face the alpha king who wouldn't bring himself to look away.

Xavier didn't look away at first because he wanted to make sure his rebellious wife and Queen did as he commanded, but now, he just couldn't look away. She had trapped him with her smooth and tanned body and now had him curious about it. This wasn't his first time seeing her with nothing on, but it felt like it was.

Mia ignored the heat of the alpha king's gaze on her body as she fit the silver robe over her head and moved her hand through it. Just like the scarlet gown, the silver gown had ropes that needed fastening to give the gown a firm and elegant outlook. Again, Xavier helped without being asked.

"My hair is next," she informed him with a small voice.

Xavier couldn't tell if she was being mischievous or edgy. Trying to decide what exactly it was would be a waste of time. He didn't have time, not when fate awaited him. He glanced at her curly red hair and saw that it was indeed tangled and unpresentable and that needed fixing. Slowly, he guided her towards the dressing mirror, his hand flattened against her back.

"Sit," he instructed, and she sat for the same second.

He reached out for the band and brush before the dressing mirror and he picked them up.

Mia almost asked him what he thought he was doing, but pressed her lips together to hold that question down. She observed as he ran the brush through her hair a few times, knowing his way around her hair better than she did. In one swift move, he gathered it into his large hands and made her curly hair into a neat bun.

He dropped the brush before the dressing mirror and moved back from her. She gawked at her hair in the mirror, not believing that the alpha king standing behind her did it. What sort of magic did he use?

This was certainly not how she saw the night going, and he just surprised her.
