Love and Chaos Series
The Alpha King’s Ugly Bride Chapter 83

Xavier's twisted around in bed after his lashes pulled apart, but didn't replace the one he went to bed with last night. He didn't like the idea of waking up and not replaceing Mia in his arms on the bed coiled up against him. He was becoming a spoilt lover, and he didn't want to change that. He pulled himself up to sit down in bed. He was naked and the memories of the previous night rushed back to him.

Losing control and transforming into a part wolf and part human. He thought losing control might scare Mia or, worse, turn her off, but she wanted him still. His cheeks heat as he fought a smile. She had to be the best thing that ever happened to him, the best thing that'll ever happen to him.

He stares around the room in search of his lover, but he found no trace of her.

"Mia?" he called out, getting out of bed and moving towards the bathroom, the only other place she might be.

He knocked lightly on the door before pushing it open. "My love," he called out, but no response came.

He widened the door and looked through, and again, he saw no sign of her. He returned to the bedroom and his vision caught a piece of paper with the queen's seal on it. He hurried over to it and picked it up. It had the handwriting of the queen, and he figured she had left it for him.

Good morning, Xavier.

I thought about waking you up earlier, but you slept so soundly it would have been cruel to do so. Last night was amazing and thank you for trusting me.

I have sent out the letter to the ten houses already requesting them out to bear witness. Hopefully, we will get a reasonable reply soon.

I am off to the Maidens Court and before you yell danger; I took a few guards with me. I will be back. If you decide to come over to the court, do not make a scene. Gossip flies and the last thing we want is to feed anyone that.

I hope you dream of me. I'll think of you.

Love, Mia.

He was grinning from cheek to cheek as he finished reading. This felt surreal, yet it was all real. Mia was his, and he was hers.

She was also reckless.

Anyone who had gone through half of what she had gone through in the past week wouldn't want to leave the comfort of their home. They would cancel every plan and take care of themselves first. But she wasn't anyone. She was Mia Ainsworth, his wife, Luna, queen of Wahala and the woman he loved.

....

Mia stepped into the Maiden's court and she saw the eyes of all the people seated in the hall on her. They had looks of disbelief and surprise, as if they couldn't believe their eyes. The events that had taken place with the king and queen in the last week were something almost everyone in the kingdom was aware of.

Rumours and different stories flew around and everyone drew their conclusions on what their truth was. The king was on trial. Everyone knew that and that meant that she was also on trial and no one expected her to think of anything more than that. She did, and that was why she was here.

Aneer, an elder of the maidens council and Cynthia, the record keeper, walked up to meet her as soon as they saw her.

Aneer took her hands, her eyes holding a delighted look. "Queen, Mia," she said with pride.

"Aneer!"

"I feel so proud to be standing before you right now and I can tell you I do not speak for myself alone." She beamed, delighted.

"I am happy to be here as well. I hope you don't mind. I brought a few guards."

Aneer shrugged it off and softly patted her hand. "I expected a lot more."

Margaret walked up to her, and before she could think of a way to speak, she pulled her into a tight hug that almost knocked her air out. She released her from her grip, her eyes sincerely cheerful. "I'm happy you're here and I also take your side, queen Mia," She smiled widely. "Thank you, Margaret, I'm glad to hear that."

"Whatever you need, you know you can count on us. The Maidens of this court will always answer."

"Thank you, I won't forget."

She turned to the rest elders who stood at attention and she greeted them all. Then she asked about last week's meeting, the one she had failed to attend. They told her it was harder, and the people wanted to see their queen and hear from her. She nodded. She was here now, and that was what she hoped to do.

The meeting kicked off right after she said her greeting to the already seated crowds. The many people that turned up for the event surprised her and the hall was overflowing before the end of the meeting.

"Anymore question before we close for the day?"

A few hands went up, and Mia pointed to one and beckoned on her to speak.

"We heard the alpha king is undergoing the trial by witnesses to examine his eligibility for the throne."

Mia nodded. "Yes, that's correct."

"If he loses, and his title as alpha king is stripped from him, does that mean we also lose you as our Luna?"

She hadn't thought that far, but she should have. She didn't think about the possibility of him losing. Losing meant he wasn't eligible, but everything he had shown her in the months past told her he was. He loved his people and wanted their good. He had, however, feared they wouldn't love him back, and he built a wall around himself. Mia wouldn't say this to anyone else, but she believed he was a better king than his father ever was. Fate had made it look like he wasn't.

If fate played its game and he lost the throne, she would also lose her crown as queen. She wanted to abandon it for so long, but the thought of it being taken away hurt.

The hall was quiet, and every eye stayed on her, reading every emotion and reaction she gave. Yet, not one of these eyes held a contempt of happiness. They looked torn. Most already knew the answer to the question asked, though, and that was what made them blue.

She forced a smile. "The place of a queen is beside her king, and the place of a wife is beside her husband. If the alpha king loses his crown, I also lose mine."

A loud and rebellious murmur tore through the crowd, and it took a few minutes to quiet the hall.

They didn't like her answer. They didn't want to lose her as Queen.

"I still hope that fate would sway in our favour because the only sin the alpha king committed was defending and protecting his queen."

She turned to the entrance of the hall and there stood Xavier, holding the proudest look on his face.

The eyes of the crowd turned to the door, and they met the alpha king. He came just like she wanted, like she hoped. He caused her heart to beat faster, even though he stood so far away. That was the strength he had. All attempts to put her reaction and feeling under control failed.

The crowd had their eyes on her, and they noticed the change and her disorientation. Still, they looked fascinated, watching the show of affection, not making a sound.

Mia cleared her throat and dropped her head. "Maiden, the king, Xavier Ainsworth is here," she said, and thunderous applause and happy cheers follow.

Xavier marvelled how in a little space of time the queen had captivated the heart of so many. She barely did anything more than be her genuine self. The people loved what she showed them and watched the reaction of the crowd; he knew they'll do whatever she wants without asking questions. Just like he would.

This woman was fucking unbelievable. She ruled her world and didn't have to change a thing about herself.

The court wrapped up for the day and as the people took their leave; she rose from her seat and moved towards him. Her heart hammered in her chest as if she hadn't seen him all day. As if he didn't walk in many minutes ago.

Xavier moved through the hall, meeting Mia halfway. He took her into his arms when she was close enough, exhaling deeply.

They pulled away and Xavier's hand caressed her cheeks softly. "You came!" she giggled, her eyes flickering beautifully as she stared at him.

"I had to, everything gets boring in your absence." he smiled down at her. "I heard everything you said up there."

"Everything I said was the truth."

"I know, my love, it's just nice to hear them. You don't know how proud I am to have you as my wife. I consider myself lucky if you ask me."

She rolled her eyes, but they got interrupted before she could speak.

"My king, my queen." Margaret bowed her head and Xavier released Mia's waist and they turned to her.

"Luna," Mia called and turned to Xavier to introduce them. "Xavier, this is luna Margaret of the east region. She's also an elder of the Maidens Court."

He nodded at Margaret. "Mia has spoken a few times about you, luna. Keep up the good work."

"I will, my king." she bowed her head and then glanced up at Mia. "I don't think the maidens are ready to lose you just yet. I am not ready to lose you either and so whatever we can do to help you, we are here."

Mia reached for her hands and took them. "Thank you for the offer, Margaret. I won't forget it."

She bowed once more and took her leave.

That's loyalty right there. Xavier thought.
