Aurora pretended to be shocked to see the two. ’Oh, my, Miss Shaw. Did you not get anything?”

Elijah had a dark expression after being bullied throughout the auction and said, ’Vicky, let’s go.”

Vicky did not want to waste any time on Aurora and ignored her completely. “Sure. Let’s go.”

Aurora’s face flushed in anger when Vicky ignored her. Meanwhile, Tyler watched the two leave with adark look in his eyes.

Vicky sat in the passenger seat, quietly gazing at the moonlight outside the window.

Before long, Elijah finished his call and returned to the car.

Vicky noticed that he seemed different from his usual self and asked casually, “What’s wrong? Didsomething happen?”

“It’s nothing. Just some tricky business matters at the company,” Elijah replied, unwilling to share moredetails. So, Vicky did not press further.

Elijah started the car and drove Vicky back home. After the car was parked in front of the house, Vickymoved to get out and leave when Elijah suddenly called out to her, “Vicky.”

She paused and asked, “What is it?”

Elijah’s face had a conflicted expression as he struggled to replace the right words. “There’s something…I’m not sure if I should tell you…”

Vicky had grown fond of Elijah’s family, and her impression of Elijah was quite good, so sheencouraged him to speak up. “It’s okay, you can tell me.”

Elijah’s gaze wavered as he spoke up, “Well… Although we’re pretending to be engaged, you knowthat the outside world thinks it’s real. You know how often the media pays attention to me. As myfiancee, you’re likely to attract media attention too. You’ve experienced how the media exaggeratesthings, so…” he trailed off. He then looked at Vicky and asked, “Can you please keep your distancefrom other men while we are still pretending to be engaged?”

Vicky quickly understood. “You mean… Noah, my senior back in school?” She smiled and continued,“Don’t worry. Noah and I are just ordinary friends. He has a crush on Jennifer from our studio and hasbeen pursuing her recently.”

Elijah let out a sigh of relief but insisted, “I did not misunderstand your relationship with Noah, but themedia loves to create speculation. Otherwise, my ex-fiancee wouldn’t have broken up with me.’

The mention of Elijah’s failed engagement stirred a sense of guilt in Vicky’s heart. She nodded andreplied, “I understand what you mean. Don’t worry. I won’t get too close to other men during ourpartnership.”

“That’s great.”

As Vicky was about to get out of the car and close the door, she remembered that she had not boughta gift for Elijah’s grandmother yet. “Elijah, are you free tomorrow?”

Elijah paused for a moment and asked, “What’s the matter?”

“Let’s pick a gift for Grandma together tomorrow. Isn’t her birthday coming up?”

Seeing Elijah hesitating as if he was contemplating something, Vicky could not help but ask, “What’swrong? Do you have something to do tomorrow?”

Snapping out of his daze, Elijah replied, “No, I don’t have anything tomorrow. What time should I cometo pick you up? It

“Ten in the morning,” Vicky answered.

“Alright.’

With the time set, the two bid each other farewell.

The next day, Vicky came downstairs in a timely manner. Just as she pulled open the passenger sidedoor, she heard Elijah shout abruptly, “Don’t sit there!”

Vicky was startled and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Realizing that his emotions were getting the better of him, Elijah quickly lowered his voice. “Uhm…Vicky, can you sit in the back?”

Vicky looked at Elijah in confusion. “Huh? Is the seat broken?

She had always sat in the passenger seat before and was confused as to why was it suddenly anissue.
