Chapter 26 Suspicion

As soon as Christian stopped speaking, Beatrice could sense his suspicion toward her.

Beatrice's voice trembled as she cried, appearing vulnerable and disheveled as she spoke, "You know how much Anastasia hated me. I don't want to drink because I thought they spiked the drinks, and it terrifies me..."

Christian chuckled to himself after hearing her words, replaceing them quite amusing.

He knew it was ridiculous because he understood Anastasia well enough not to believe she would use such means to harm her.

Christian fell silent for a moment, he frowned, and his voice took on a serious tone, saying, "I told you I'd send you abroad, so why did you go to my mom and ask her to help you get into Starlight Entertainment?"

There was a moment of hesitation before Beatrice gazed at him with reddened eyes and confessed, "If I said it's because I can't bear to part with you?"

Christian narrowed his eyes, his gaze filled with complex emotions, but mostly, they appeared indifferent. "Didn't you already know I looked after you and Charlie because of my brother, Donny?" Donny Patterson was Christian's older brother, but Donny's existence couldn't be verified within the Patterson family records.

It was because Donny was the son of Christian's father, James Patterson, from his first wife, Lyra Walton, after they divorced.

Lyra took Donny away, and James regretted the divorce, but it was too late. Thankfully, Lamia gave birth to Christian the following year.

The two brothers, however, unexpectedly met and recognized each other while studying at a university abroad. They became good friends.

Three years ago, when Beatrice left the country, and soon after, she entered into a relationship with Donny. In the following year, she had their child, Charlie.

Tragically, Donny's life was taken in an unexpected explosion accident.

With Donny's passing, Christian brought Beatrice and Charlie back to the country and had Charlie posing as his illegitimate child.

Knowing that Lamia would firmly oppose it, he knew he couldn't reveal Charlie's true identity.

The memories of the past flashed before him, and Christian's eyes briefly reflected a sense of sorrow and regret.

Upon hearing his words, Beatrice's body tensed slightly, but she forced a faint smile.

She continued, "I was just joking. I've just grown used to your care, and I'm worried that anything will happen to me while being overseas. Christian, can I wait until Charlie is older before I go?" Tears welled up in her eyes as she gazed at Christian expectantly, her expression begging for his understanding.

Christian thought about his deceased brother and couldn't replace it in his heart to say that dreadful word, "No."

The following day, the news of Christian and Beatrice rushing their son to the hospital late at night made headlines.

However, someone quickly took it down.

Christian didn't want Charlie to be harshly judged, leading him to make a quick and resolute decision and take down the news.

Therefore, the matter concerning Starlight Entertainment was put aside.

Derek had Anastasia accompany him to meet an important client, and the Graves Group's high regard for the meeting indicated that the client was quite influential.

She knew it was a great learning opportunity and didn't refuse.

While in the conference room, the atmosphere was solemn.

Anastasia attended the meeting as a Graves Group staff member.

As the mysterious and esteemed client arrived, Anastasia saw a group escorting the man inside. Her eyes flickered momentarily, and she couldn't help but feel slightly puzzled.

This man had a handsome and enigmatic face, towering over others with a commanding presence. His every gesture exuded nobility and depth, while his cold gaze gave him an air of mystery. His features hinted at a mixed ethnicity.

Yet, there was a subtle hint of familiarity in how his brows and eyes looked.

Anastasia pondered, "Why does he look somewhat like... Christian?"
