Chapter 153

Megan returned to Borough City, driving straight from the airport to the cemetery.

It was a chilly early winter day, the cold

wind

Clad in a black trench coat, she held a bundle of daisies, her mother’s favorite, as she stood in the cold wind, gazing at her mother’s smiling face on the picture.

Her mother had died in a car accident.

In Megan’s memories, her mother was tender and loving, sharing a deep affection with her father. In the evenings, the sound of a car pulling up would echo in the courtyard of Quinn Haven, her mother would descend the stairs with Megan in her arms to greet her father. He would kiss her mother first, then sweep Megan into his arms, asking, “Did you miss Daddy, Megan?”

“Yes, I missed Daddy!”

She longed to join her father in picking up her brother from school.

“Alright let’s both go pick up your brother, and give your mom some peace to paint.”

Megan sat in the black family car, watching her mother through the rear window. Her mother, draped in a shawl, stood in the courtyard beside a blooming winter jasmine, a gentle smile on her face.

A tear fell.

Bending down, Megan placed the bundle of daisies in front of her mother’s headstone.

She thought, maybe come spring, she should plant a winter jasmine here. When winter returned, her mother would be there, waiting for her father to come home from work.

In the evening, she returned to the villa.

The maid, upon seeing her, appeared tense, speaking in a careful tone, “Mrs. Lowry, Mr. Lowry called from the office…”

Megan was not in the mood to hear about Sullivan.

She paused on the staircase, softly saying, “Don’t bother with dinner for me. I won’t be eating at home. Thank you.”

The maid was momentarily stunned.

Megan went upstairs, dragging out a large suitcase, beginning to pack her belongings.

Yes, she was determined to separate from Sullivan!

Perhaps she didn’t have the strength to leave him yet, but the thought of sharing a bed, living under the same roof with him unbearable.

She packed a few sets of clothes and important documents, zipping up the suitcase.

Leaving the room, she took one last look at the bedroom where she had lived for three years, feeling a pang of emotion. Finally, her gaze fell on the wedding ring on her finger.

It hadn’t been long since she’d worn it, and now she was taking it off again

Gently, she placed it on the nightstand.

She left the platinum cards and the diamond cards that Sullivan had given her all there, without a single trace of reluctance. These were never what she truly wanted.

Megan, suitcase in hand, opened the door.

Sullivan stood there, his expression dark.

He looked down at the suitcase she was holding, slowly walking in, loosening his tie, his voice low and gentle, “You’ve just come back, and now you’re preparing for another trip?”

Megan whispered, “I’m moving out.”

Sullivan, twirling his tie around his slender fingers, nodded upon hearing her words.

“You mean separation? Why not just go for a divorce? Or are you afraid to say it?”

Megan found herself backed against a wall.

He comered her, his gaze softening. “Everything’s been settled! Quinn Haven will be renovated. The gravel paths she walked, the sofa she touched, we’ll tear it all down. Once it’s done, we can go check it out together… Hm? If you want to move back, that’s okay too, depending on what your father and Cora think.”

Megan’s voice grew even softer, “Sullivan, is this another one of your compensations?”

Sullivan pressed against her, his tie, lightly binding her wrists, not tight enough to be Inescapable… But for a married couple, this act was indescribably intimate.

He intended to reconcile, but Megan refused.

She didn’t want his compensation, didn’t want him, nor this marriage. The image of Cressida, draped in a slip dress, lounging on her mother’s favorite couch, was etched in Megan’s heart, unbearable to live with.

She still had to leave

Sullivan’s temper flared. His gaze tumed cold, his tone chilling. “It seems you’ve made up your mind, even if it means sacrificing Wyatt to get away from me! Then, let’s talk terms again! I’ve always said everything has its price; If a deal isn’t struck, it’s just because the offer wasn’t good enough! In addition to pulling Wyatt out of his situation, helping the Quigley family rise again, Mrs. Lowry, is that enough of a bargaining chip? Enough to buy you, to have you beside me every night?”

Megan’s lips trembled with unbearable anger,

Sullivan caught her wrist, preventing her intended slap

He threw her onto the soft bed. Perhaps too angry, he held her chin and kissed her tender lips passionately.
